President Trump met Friday with National Rifle Association (NRA) CEO Wayne LaPierre to discuss how the gun rights organization could possibly provide financial assistance to help defend the president as he faces a scandal, The New York Times reported Friday, citing two people familiar with the situation.

An administration official confirmed to The Hill that Trump and LaPierre met, but did not say what they discussed.

The National Rifle Association has laid off dozens of employees, canceled its national convention and scuttled fundraising, membership and shooting events that normally would be key to rallying its base in an election year. The coronavirus pandemic has upended the gun-rights organization during what should be heady times for the group, in the middle of presidential election and with gun owners riled up over what they see as an effort by authorities to trample on their Second Amendment rights.

Perhaps something good will come from this.

Although it wouldn't surprise me a bit to learn that Trump is funneling millions in relief funding to the organization.

Always a delight to see that the NRA has suffered yet another setback in the courts.

After being charged by the New York State Department of Financial Service (“DFS”) for various violations of the insurance law pertaining to Carry Guard and other insurance products it offered, the NRA sought a preliminary injunction from the federal court in the Northern District of New York – specifically asking for an injunction to stop DFS from “initiating enforcement proceedings against the NRA.” The Court denied that request in full in this decision and opinion. This decision clears the way for a trial at which the NRA could be assessed penalties in excess of ten million dollars with respect to alleged violations of the state insurance law.

Their purported raison d'etre was arming themselves, to protect against an authoritarian government, because that cannot be allowed, and NRA "militia" would use their guns to stop a government takeover. It's happening right in front of their eyes.

New York Attorney General Moves To Dissolve The NRA After Fraud Investigation [NPR]

The Attorney General of New York took action today to dissolve the National Rifle Association, following an 18-month investigation that found evidence the powerful gun rights group is "fraught with fraud and abuse."

Attorney General Letitia James claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday that she found financial misconduct in the millions of dollars, and that it contributed to a loss of more than $64 million over a three year period.
