** The Offical 2008 MLB Thead!!! **

Blanton amazed me last night. He appeared to be so calm. I was really concerned he would blow it. He didn't and got a home run to boot. :D

I really am hoping they can win tonight in Philly. All their post season last wins have been out of town.

It's been fun posting in here these past few weeks. Thanks for having me. (*8*)
Blanton was really impressive. He strikes me as a guy who'll always give up more hits than innings pitched, will never have he greatest ERA....but the NL to be the right place for him.He showed guts and toughness and hit a home run...very nice showing for himself!

As down as I have been lately, and still kinda am...it just feels so strange seeing Phillie win this thing(it ain't over yet,but I loved sonny's take on tonight's matchup....Cole Hamels is starting,"check please" as in it is over...probably right but ya never know);) The Philies deserve it should they win ,and it will give the Mets motivation to finally get out and seal the deal instead of chokig their Septembers away.

It's been fun having you with us post with us the past few weeks,Scrub! You're a sweetheart and the pleasure is ours!

Thanks sonny for the kind words,I'll be all right.(*8*)Just have to take things day to day and not expect more from people than they are willing/able to give.

Thanks Sausy (*8*)

This town is already wild. I can't imagine what will happen if they lose tonight.

People have been at the ball park since 3 pm and some don't even have tickets to the game. #-o

A sixth inning rainout. And Tampa had tied the game!:(Well,I guess we do it over again tomorrow, but it sucks we had a game that finished around 2 and now a game postponed in this series already.:(

Thanks Brad (*8*)

I can't believe they suspended the game

Why in the world they even started I can't figure out. It was already raining and they knew from the weather report it would just get worse. Bad, bad decision on someone's part.

Oh now to wait another day!!. I'm sure the hoagie and steak shops are happy as they are making a bundle of money on game days.

Absolutly right Scrub, that game never should have been allowed to start.
Meantime the Rays had already checked out of their hotel and could not check back in cause it was sold out. They ended up 25 miles away in another hotel.
What a mess.
Still waitin for Bud to announce his decision about today but it does not look weather wise.

Decision is in.
No game tonight, and has been rescheduled for Wednesday
Smart move after last nights blunder not to play since the weather is not going to be good tonight.
I wanna remind you guys about the rule change last year, the game will be resumed from the point of suspension, as opposed to being declared a tie and played from the beginning. Whenever play resumes, both teams will do so with completely clean bullpens. Still no word on what happens if the Rays win and there is a game 6. when (Thurs or Friday) and where (prolly Florida) has not yet been decided. One day at a time I guess.

looks like it's still a go for tonight.
Manuel has Revealed his Sixth Inning Plans
He will send a pinch hitter to the plate against the Rays Grant Balfour.
he will replace Cole Hamels, and turn the game over to the bullpen,
that's not such a bad thing when you consider how awesome that pen has been. If I am not mistaken the Phillies pen had the NL east best ERA this season.

I dono, a big part of me wants the Rays to win and go to game 6.
Let em battle it out 3-2, Rays win again to make it 3-3 followed by a battle to the end in game 7.
Now that would salvage, and make more exciting, a what has been a dull WS.

Truth is, I don't really expect that to happen.
Lets be real, those Ray's are no even supposed to be here, I mean come on, there a new team of young boys who are prolly scared to death out there playing in the WS.
I now think, after watching the Rays this last week, that the Phillies are gonna show the "boys" how to win a WS.
Damn it's hard to admit that, but hey, I know good baseball when I see it.
Those Phillies had it going on this year. Like I said before, the Phillies were everything the Mets should have been in '08.

GO PHILLIES

Sonny the Mets will win next year. It's going to their turn and there year. (*8*)

And I'll even cheer for them. :)

You got that right sonny. It's over now,4-3 Phillies,Brad Lidge striking out pinch hitter Eric Linske and jubilation eruptsd in Philly.I wish the Mets had their fight.

GO PHILLIES

You got it this year,Scrub(*8*)... and all Phillies fans and deserved it.You've got a tough, resilient, professional group of guys who really did Philadelphia proud.Hopefully the Mets will take it as a motivation to what focus, grit and execution can do to get you where you want to be...World Series champions.I thank you for your encouraging words on the Mets next year, and I know sonny will appreciate it too.

The Rays just didn't have enough but they came back fighting....they had just dug too deep a hole and Phillly was focused on closing the deal.Congratulations to Tampa for a great showing as AL champions.Congratulations to the 2008 Philadelphia, Phillies on their World Series championship...well done as tough as it is for me to get those words out.

Thanks Abs for this great forum to discuss the greatest game America has ever produced and those who participated here with their passion and perspectives. It's sad that this season has just been put to bed.....gonna miss baseball the next few months as the nights grow longer, the days become colder and the stadiums are silent.Oh,how much I anticipate spring again and the sights and sound of baseball resuming...the best, most comforting annual ritual there is. Hoping next year's baseball season and Abs' second annual official baseball thread will be better than ever!:D

Awwww........Sausy
You're welcome,Scrub.:kiss:The Phillies did a great job, they were classy and you got to appreciate that effort paying off if you're a real baseball fan.

But,it REALLY was tough getting all the compliments out,as a Mets fan.;)

Ya know, all that jumping around in red uniforms at home with the fans going crazy reminded me of a certain...time in my life :)

;)

Grats to you and the Philly fans, Scrub!

Can't wait till Spring Training '09! (!)

Congrats also to Cole Hamels who was named the MVP of the World Series.

So it's over, no more baseball till spring. I always dread this time of year cause baseball is my life ya know.

I also want to join Sausy in thanking Abs for starting up this thread, it has been a blast. We got to know one another, shared great stories and taught each other a bit about the great american pastime.

Special thanks to Sausy for the outstanding posts. I'll miss reading them every day
Thanks also to Scrub for allowing me to tease her about the Phillies.

Oh,how great it would be to have Cole Hamels and Johann Santana at the top of the Met's rotation.Phillies will never let it happen of course and it's fun to tease Phillie fans,,but in some parallel universe perhaps....:D:badgrin:It definitely has been fun teasing Scrubs on her beloved Phillies, and look forward to more fun and razzing next season:kiss:Next year should be bigger ,better......hope to see even more JUB baseball fans joining in on the fun!:D

Thanks for the very kind words,sonny(*8*).....it's my pleasure to talk baseball with you ,Abs and everyone here.Your love and passion for baseball always shines through, and our intelligence and perceptiveness about the game in your posts and perspectives(along with your sense of fun)is something I'll miss reading daily as well.I join you in hoping to see y'all back here next year with Cory's(Abs) Official 2009 Thread.....alas the long wait begins to pitchers and catchers and the wonderful sights and sounds of spring training!

Gentlemen

It's not over

You can talk about free agents and who's going where. Tons of speculation out there.

Or does that belong in the 2009 thead?

I think we can continue this thread till the new year and Abs starts a new one one for '09.
There should be some activity starting soon, and plenty news for us to share.

We are off and running, 42 players filed for free agency Friday.

Up next are the GM meetings in Dana Point, Calif., next week. Those meetings typically lay the groundwork for trades, which are more likely to come around the time of the winter meetings, which will be held Dec.8-11 in Las Vegas

Here is a nice shot of Cole Hamels and his WS MVP trophy
