** The Offical 2008 MLB Thead!!! **

What happened to the Washburn deal, is that dead?.
I read it's not looking good, the Mariners are demanding a top prospect and the Yankees already would be responsible for a large chunk of money next year with Washburn.I don't know it would be worth it,as he is not an elite pitcher. As with Omar Minaya and the Mets,if there is a good deal o be made Brian Cashman will pounce on it.

Really good trade by the Yankees getting Ivan Rodriguez from Detroit for the wildly inconsistent Kyle Farnsworth. He still is a good defensive cacher and fine hitter and with Jorge Posada out the rest of the year gives the Yanks a quality replacement for little cost.

Plenty of people mad at Manny around here.Aftet his last fakeing of an injury to get ooff the roster, enough is enough.Pat Burrell would be good.

"The Red Sox don't to deserve a player like me".........ASSHOLE.
We'll find out today aropund 4 if we can unload him on the Marlins.:p

Do you think the Marlins will get Manny today? Well that's the newest talk, the Marlins are going after him as well as the Phillies. A lot of people also say yeah we hear that every year, Boston talks about dumping him. But a lot think this time Boston is so fed up with him it may be for real.
Like you said brad, well we will know by the deadline 4PM today.

yeah, you don't see enough of that captured on TV.
There was a great one a few years ago of a Met (don't remember which player) who gave the chop-chop sign to the Atlanta Braves fans as he rounded the bases. While I don't condone such unprofessional behavior,
I Wish I could find that clip.

OMG!

We actually won a game!

Let's keep beating up on the Braves!

ABS, WHERE ARE YA !!

The Cards are about to sweep the Braves,
Carpenter had a solid outing yesterday.
Things are looking up for you babe, come on out an celebrate with us. (*8*)

Well,I hope the Cards sweep the Braves too....but it REALLY shouldn't be too hard now, with Braves either droping like flies on the disabled list or sluggers getting traded away!:pDamn,I do have a bee-yitch-y streak, don't I?:p

Seriously, relax and enjoy yourself this weekend Abs.You deserve it after the whole move compounded by all that travelling for your job.(*8*)And I do hope the Cards rub it in on the Braves!;)

Surprised Manny got traded to the Dodgers after hearing all that Florida Marlin talk. The three way rumors got it right regarding the Pirates though.

Manny brought it on himself and it shouldn't have ended this way for him,the Boston organization or fans.I just don't think he realizes or cares how emotionally immature and unprofessional he looks.I hope Omar Minaya doesn't get all misty eyed and try to acquire him for the Mets over the winter,as he is going to be a free agent after this season no longer having options for the next two seasons as a condition of his trade to the Dodgers. He is a world class talent and world class self-centered jerk.

The Red Sox really hurt themselves with this trade as Jason Bay is a very good complimentary player, like JD Drew...but cannot carry a team on his back with great hot streaks as Manny very flawed as he is undoubtably can still do.They no longer intimidate offensively at least, though they remain a tough playoff contender with their strong starting pitchers.

Just a couple of thoughts I had.

The Manny trade was great for the Dodgers who really need that big bat and gives them the upper hand against Arizona, plus they gave up only a couple of minor leaguers and kept of all their young productive players. It was good for the Yankees as well, not having to face him much anymore. It is good for Boston cause they get rid of the drama queen and get Jason Bay, who is a decent all around player, and they too only gave up a couple of minor leaguers. It is also very good news for Mets fans cause neither the Phillies or the Marlins got him.
I am not sure what the Pirates got, they seem to be giving away all of their best players unless they are planning for the future, which is good I guess. But in the short term I don’t think they got much out of the deal.
I am sure it was a tough decision for Boston to give Manny up, but I think they thought enough was enough, especially after he pulled himself out of the line up and threw the owners under the bus, so they finally pulled the trigger on him. Of course with the two year option going away, he is a free agent at the end of the season. so I don’t expect him to be in LA long. Can you say Yankees? I am sure Manny’s agent, the very crafty and dare I say shifty manager, Scott Boras has big plans for Manny next year and those plans included getting Manny out of his Boston contact, and I am sure the Dodgers will have to pay a shit load of money to keep him next year. I still dono who is paying Manny, the Dodgers or Boston, If it is Boston who would be willing to pay the money it shows how just how much they wanted rid of him.
I am not sure what is up with that, anyone know?

By the way I think he is going to get along very well with Torre.

WHO NEEDS MANNY?

Jason Bay continues to rock as a member of the Red Sox, following up his clutch triple and game winning run scored last night with a three run homer in a 10 run win of the A’s.
In fact, In two games since coming over from Pittsburgh in the Manny Ramirez deal, Bay is 3-7 with a triple and a homer, walked three times, been hit by a pitch and made an awesome sliding catch. And not once did he make a phone call in the Green Monster or shove an old man.

Come on Bradlee, show us those dancing bananas ;)

Dear God:

Please let us take two of three from the Cubs.

Sincerely,
Abs

I think he was being bombarded with Mets fans prayers to send us a new reliable bullpen at the time.No going on either prayer,it seems.;)(*8*)

:rotflmao:

Can we get one of those too? Seriously...

And, by the way, can the damn Cubs LOSE for once??? :grrr:

If they "do it" on their 100 year anniversary, I will seriously cry. :(

It seems God's gotten back to us both in the affirmative,as our bullpem is pitching like new(or maybe Jerry Manuel is God,he damn put the fear of damnation to the bullpen and they Have responded...so far!)Your Cards are winning lately, but you have one hell of an obstacle brewing up in Milwaukee in the race for the wild card. They still have the talent and time, but I don't think the Cubs will implode(not til the first round of the playoffs, then it will be Cubbie misery as usual)(!)I know the Brewers have some talent but I still think the Cards should overtake them. Here's hoping(*8*) for a St. Louis bigtime run!

I am just LOVING the slide of the Phillies....but I won't be satisfied til the Mets run over the Philie's carcass, roll back over just for good measure, kick and spit on it.The Mets have to finish the job this time, not make the historic, horrific disastrous fall of last September resurface yet again because of an arrogant sense of entitlement and complacency. You have to win before you can strut....and even when you do,remember winners ALWAYS stay hungry fior the next challenge.See Michael Phelps as exhibit A in that context!..|

Don't cry,Abs.(*8*)The Cub fans are like the Charlie Brown of baseball....and you know what happens always happens to him.I'll demonstrate in my very next post!:D

Cubs fans are just like Charlie Brown

Lucy is the representation of fate!:D

Oh,right you are on Peppermint Patty!I was a little kid even and said to myself many a time "She isn't very girly at all";)!

Oh,the Cubs may win the division but I just can't see if the Cards play well, and especially are healthy that the Brewers win the wild card.I'm glad you liked my little Peanuts demonstration of the futility of the Cubs fan.....bless those schmuck's hearts!:gogirl:

I think we all got to post a little more in this thread.....I've even been procrastinating on posting on Sonny's Mets thread, and the Mets are up by one after winning the last four games!!oops!i should be moonwalking in happiness over the Phillie slide!--%--

Here I am babe :wave::wave:
I have been feeling bad about your cards, i know how much hope you have for them. But remember, they have played well this year and LaRussa has done a great job. They remain on the edge of contention in the NL-Central, trailing the first-place Chicago Cubs by 7 1/2 games and the second-place Milwaukee Brewers by two games in the divison and the wild card race. Plus, St. Louis had won four straight and six of eight overall coming into the game. :D
Also remember, St. Louis leads the season series 6-3 Cubs fans have to worry more about the cards than they do the flawed Brewers.
LaRussa has done a hell-of-a job with a team that some thought ws destined for basement.
The fact of the matter is, the Cardinals are a better team from top-to-bottom and will finish ahead of the sad Brewers when it's all over.
