** The Offical 2008 MLB Thead!!! **

im really getting tired of seeing boston, st louis, cubs, or yankees on every single espn, tbs, and fox broadcast. Its ridiculous...

and fuck red sox ban wagon nation

Interesting, Dr.

What else would they show? I agree with you to a point - and yes, I'm obviously biased but - they hardly EVER show Cardinal games on national television. Only when they are playing the Cubs, a la last weekend.

If the Yankees or Red Sox are playing, all of the aforementioned stations would lick the nuts of those teams to get the ratings. Sad, but true.

Oh, and, ESPN is so biased towards the East Cost teams, especially the Yankees and Red Sox, it's disgusting.

And agreed - fuck the Red Sox (and then something after that....that's all I saw  )

This must be the Absolut and Sausy Comedy Hour with some guest stars thrown in for good measure.

What am I supposed to do Peto - force people to post here about baseball and the teams they support?

NOTICE TO EVERYONE -

THIS THREAD IS OPEN. FEEL FREE TO POST WHATEVER YOU WANT ABOUT THE 2008 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SEASON.

Better?

Seriously, if they did not have us, the sports forum would be dead.
What-a-ya-gonna do Abs, the dude does not follow the NL
You know how those AL guys are. :p

Thanks for posting Peto, please come back anytime you wanna read about real baseball,
as in National league baseball.

Ohhhhh I'm gonna regret writing this :help::wave:

From the nation's best newspaper in the nation's best city with the nation's best sports team:

"Seemingly buoyed by the news general manager Jim Hendry had added another potential ace, the Cubs went out and beat Cincinnati 7-3 to maintain their 3 1/2-game lead over St. Louis."

:=D:

So now I am a guest star????:grrr:

Fuck this ,I am deleteing my account.

Awwww (*8*) thats ok babe, we are ALL stars here. :D
Besides, you have enough to worry about with Tampa Bay.
I am not to sure the Yankees will be a serious threat to you this year.

whos excited to see another St. Louis game on espn again? lol i kid i kid.

I am!

Actually, it's kind of refreshing to take a break from Dan McLaughlin and Al Hrabosky. Sometimes when they are announcing games on TV they sit there and lick each other's nuts, and it gets annoying.

Maybe the East coaSt sPorts Network will give the Cardinals some overdue credit ;)

I am not too sure the Yankees will be a serious threat to you this year.
I am not sure either though it appears the second place Red Sox may have some holes to fill especially if David Ortiz is not at 100% upon returning from the DL if he even returns from the DL. Are the Rays for real if they were held to 1 run in 19 innings by the Yankees in 2 games? Are the Yankees ready to contend (AL East/wildcard) after the All Star break?

Let's all take a deep breath in July knowing full well there is still a lot of baseball games to be played and there will be players changing teams on or before July 31st. August is the month when the contenders for the post season are suppose to play their best baseball. Maybe even the Mets will wake up in August (just kidding, sonny). I was at the Delgado 9 RBI game at YS a few weeks ago wondering if I will ever see a display of such power ever again.

A note to Absolut: I appreciate the shoutout. I love the baseball season so much that I sometimes feel I am a prisoner of MLB. Though I live and die for my NY Yankees I am also a passive fan of my hometown Nationals even if they are stinking up the NL.

Well said Sausy, this is a great thread Cory started. ..|
Only thing that bugs me is the fact that there have been over 2000 hits on the thread but only 60 posts.
I sure wish more people would join in the fun instead of just lurking around.
I mean don't get me wrong, I am glad the interest is there but come on guys contribute something

As to ESPN I hate the coverage there, unfortunately the Sunday game will be televised on ESPN, you know, the day we sweep the Rockies ;)
The guys calling the game are B O R I N G, The difference in the coverage between ESPN and SNY is night and day. I sometimes watch with the sound off, afraid those guys might lull me to sleep.

flyingfree, I hear ya babe, baseball is my life. Looking forward to the Home Run Derby and All Star game which will get me through the break till Thursday

Abs, thanks for just being you. :D

I'm happy my Mets are going strong into the second half, but the death of former Yankee player and longtime broadcaster Bobby Murcer does put a solemn and poignant pause on the All Star celebration for the last time at the old Yankee Stadium the next couple of days..He wasn't the second coming of Mickey Mantle as was predicted early in his career, also coming out of Oklahoma.....but he was damned good ballplayer who was a five time Yankee All Star and after a trade to the San Francisco Giants and spending time with the Cubs, was reacquired and fnished his career as a solid reserve for the Yankees. His five RBI game, driving in all the Yankee runs in an unbelievably emotional, poignant victory the night Thurman Munson died in a plane crash(the Yankees long time All Star catching great and one of Bobby's very best friends)will stand as his signature moment as a Yankee to all fans.

He was a well regarded Yankee broadcaster over the past two decades who no one has ever had a bad word to say and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be missed, and forever will be a Yankee.I'm sure there will be some commemoration before the start of the game to is memory.

Seriously guys, we know you are out there lurking around, tell the rest of us your baseball likes and dislikes. I know all of us who post here would love hearing about it. So if you are reading this and have not yet posted, please join in the fun. We promise not to bite, unless of course you want us to.

Sausy I loved reading your Bobby Murcer tribute, I had a long talk with my dad and an uncle about him, they both spoke about Bobby as you did. I am looking forward so much to the All Star game where there will more said about him I am sure.

I don't think the rays have what it takes to compete in the second half. It would make a great story if they somehow make the postseason this year.
The Rays can remain in the AL East race if they decide to trade for some players who are capable of hitting with power before the trading deadline on July 31st. Will the Rays make trades and take on some big contracts to improve the team or will they stand pat?

It is all up to the owners of the Rays. The Rays have a fan base that loves to see the Red Sox and the Yankees at Tropicana Field and would rather stay at home when the other teams come to town. Making money is all about putting fannies in the seats and the Rays front office has not been successful at promoting a contending team to apathetic fans.

Wow.... what a game. I was getting nervous there it might end with an American League forfeit.

Congrats to the Al, another win, and in the longest All Star game ever.
I just get all juiced up watching all those guys, the best in the game, out there slugging it out. It never gets old, it never gets tired. It's American baseball, and there ain't nothing else like it. :D

im really glad they through home field advantage into the mix for the winner, cuz it gives them something to play for and makes it more of a hard fought game, unlike the pro bowl and the nba all star game

I agree, I like the home field advantage incentive, I want the games to mean something rather than an exhibition event.
I thought we were in trouble when the game went on so long, and they almost ran out of pitchers, some would say there should a cut off point at maybe 10 innings and the tied game would end and everyone goes home.
Can't do that now.

With the news back on Rocket and steroids, I thouigh this Rescue Me mini episode was fun to watch. Also the last scene in the clip with the date showing on the newspaper while the alarm is ringing was chilling.
