I like Adele, she has a few songs I like, and I'm happy for her success, but I dont get why she's SO loved, is it because she's not thin and so people want to root for her? *no shade*

It's because of her realness, she doesn't try to be a fashion model, she doesn't oversing, she doesn't sing trite songs about getting drunk at the club, and she makes better r&b than half of her af american counterparts. If beyonce wants to call herself an r&b singer she should put down the heels and corny pop tart sexually charged radio hits and take notes.

Also, this is why

^Maybe that's why we should redefine "diva".

^ fair enough, I agree with you on that, she's talented and real, but personally I love the fakeness that comes with being a true diva though! :)

True divas are real. Aretha is real. Patti is real. Adele is real. This new generation of overhyped "divas" are just manufactured overpaid strippers. Rihanna is an overpaid stripper. :?

Re: Slaydele has just been certified 9x platinum

I bet she will certified diamond (I think that is 10X plat) by the summer. She still has some more hits on that cd if they chose to release them.

Quoted for truth. Rumour has it, one and only, take it all, he won't go. Adele needs to slow down she is ruining other people's careers with this music, no one can go back to corny ass microwave chicken nugget songs like "s&m" or "run the world" when she's serving homemade gumbo like this. :?

I see Godele has you pressed and steamed. Well the bible says that one day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall praise her magnificence so get right with the queen or be left behind. :?

Re: Slaydele has just been certified 9x platinum

And the success of "21" let a lot of people (re)-discover "19" - for an older release it's crazy how high it has charted this time around, got up to #4 around Grammy time.

Here ya go

I see Adelephant flopping like femme fatale with her next album, happens to all Brits in America, sooner or later, they get bored, the hype wears off and they move onto someone else.

I ain't even mad.

Re: Slaydele has just been certified 9x platinum

Congrats to her.

I read an article the other week, can't remember where, about a major contributor to her sucess is her being white. It had a lot of truth to it even though I thought 'what a load of crap' before I fully read it. If a black artist came out with something similar, no-one is all that interested. But because she is a white, british girl with a soulful voice everyone is in love.

Not meaning to hate on her, shes a lovely lady! Serious question though, if she were black, do you think she'd be as succesful?

She can flop for the rest of her life and still have accomplished more than most entertainers.

guiness book of world records? check.

over 10 million albums sold? check.

ass full of grammys? check.

musical icon? check.

her place in the history books is solidified, she could retire and eat pizza and drink beer (her favorite pasttimes) on an island somewhere and rest comfortably now.

i won't deny that, i felt the same way about justin timberlakes success. a black man releasing the same exact music as he did would have flopped, her redemption is that she's making soul music in a time where most charttopping black artists are going the urban, hip hop route so the public is hungry for genuine soul music no matter who it comes from.

Lauryn Hill still has people feigning for a "proper" 2nd CD.

So the answer to that, is probable. I won't say yes or no.

Although there are still several black soul artists that are getting accolades but not as much of the "shine" as Adele is currently getting(Jill Scott, Erykah Badu minus the nudity flap, Mary J. Blige), that doesn't mean if she were black that she would all of a sudden not be as successful - but sadly it might mean she wouldn't have as BROAD an audience.

Re: Slaydele has just been certified 9x platinum

Album has legs, which you don't see much of these days, it's been about a year and a half since it came out, and even now, if there's not a huge album coming out, it still has a shot at being the #1 album in the country. Very few albums camp out that high on the charts for that long. If there's an album to compare it to, I'd say Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours". Another excellent collection of pop-crafted beak-p songs. Maybe not the world's favorite album, but one that has become such a part of the time period, and pop music in general, that people will be referencing it and name-checking it from here On out.

She won't top this one - who could? She might not even come close ever again. But truth is - she may not need to.

Re: race. Would she be as popular if she were black? I'd venture a yes - if she were marketed the same way. Adele isn't marketed as masturbatory fodder first, music second. I'm willing to bet one of the people who like her music aren't even overtly aware of what she looks like, and in this day and age, hat's a minor miracle. The other artists Mouf mentions are good, but their image is a lot further forward in people's minds.
