The Official American Music Awards 2009 thread!

Re: American Music Award Nominations:(Gaga in & Whitney out)

That is true, a award show that had Jonas Brothers nominated for new artist? LOL! Miley Cyrus?

The best thing about the winner of "Best New Artist" is it's usually the kiss of death for them. While some have gone on to have some success, most disappear shortly there after.

Whitney Houston American Music Awards 2009 Performance

Whitney Houston is bringing her “Strength” to the 2009 American Music Awards.

The R&B legend will perform her comeback single “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” at this year’s AMAs, airing next Sunday, Nov. 22, on ABC.

“We’re honored to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after ten years,” American Music Awards producer Larry Klein remaked in a press statement issued Wednesday. “She has won the most AMAs of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar.”

The performance marks Whitney’s first appearance at the AMAs in more than a decade. The singer will also receive the International Artist Award for her success around the world.

Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Adam Lambert will also perform at this year’s show.

Whitney Houston to Take the Stage at the AMAs

November 11th, 2009 2:26 pm / Author: Brittany Talarico

Whitney Houston will make her return debut to the American Music Awardimage stage on Nov. 22, Dick Clark productions announced today. The diva will perform her latest hit "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," and will also be the recipient of the AMA International Artist Award, an honor presented only to those artists who have reached acclaimed fame around the world.

The award is so unique that it has only been presented seven times in the 36-year history of the American Music Awardsimage. Whitney will be the eighth artist to receive the honor, after Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyonce.

"We're honored to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after ten years," said American Music Awards producer Larry Klein. "She has won the most AMA's of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar so it's only fitting we honor her with the International Artist Award this year at such an important time in her career."

Whitney has been nominated 37 times and won 21 AMAs in her career, more than any other female solo artist. She also holds a record with the King of Pop himself for the most AMAs won in a single year for 1992's The Bodyguard Soundtrack. Michael Jackson's record from 1983 was for his breakthrough album Thriller.

Whitney has been making many public performances since her come-back premiere on the Oprah Show, where she talked candidly about her days of drug abuse. Last month she went on Simon Cowell's X-Factor, the British equivalent of American Idol, where she experienced a wardrobe malfunction.

Despite the slip, Whitney held her head high and remains in a positive place in her life.

Other performances this year include Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert.

The 37th Annual AMAs airs Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Yes. I can't wait to see all those "big" artists get OVERSHADOWED by the Ultimate Diva/Worldwide Superstar/Living Legend.

....too bad Beyonce won't be on stage performing with the rest of them peasants! (cuz that's what they become when Whitney Houston is in the building) :p They will all know their place and bow down (or stand up to give a standing o, rather) for the Queen Of Live.

What are they giving her, an acrylic pipe?

lol...such a hater....but I love it.

Jesus loves you. :)

Re: American Music Awards - November 22nd, on ABC!

haha well her man jay z will be performing.

Re: American Music Awards - November 22nd, on ABC!

lol, nope. “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” ISN'T her third single. And it's never been a "single". She's only released both "I Look To You" and "Million Dollar Bill" at the same time as dual singles and they are still on those 2 singles (which are both doing great on the R&B charts and rising still, btw..not to mention MDB is a #1 dance/club hit). They aren't releasing anymore singles this year.

She's only performing “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” here because it's fitting for the event/evening/moment. ..|

*And this was confirmed by her record label. ;)

Daughtry Rihanna

How dare you?

Who do you think you are to disrespect this years Glamour woman of the year?

"Daughtry Rihanna" are two different artists.

:grrr:

As a matter of fact Daughtry is a group while Rihanna does it all on her own as a solo artist and is a world wide, global, Grammy award winning, multi platinum selling, superstar cover girl.

You separated everyone else with a comma but when it comes to the Grammy award winning superstar you marry her to a group.

You should be ashamed of yourself :jab: :spank: i pity you.

Whitney Houston: Returning to the American Music Awards in a Big Way

Posted by Bridget Bland on Nov 11th 2009 4:44PM

Whitney Houston is ready to show just how strong she is on primetime television.

On Nov. 22, the 46 year-old entertainer will sing her Diane Warren-penned ballad 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength' on the '37th Annual American Music Awards' telecast. The song is a featured single from her seventh studio album 'I Look To You,' which debuted atop the charts and remains marked the biggest first week sales of her career.

The 'I Will Always Love You' singer's AMA performance will be her first time on the show in a decade. She previously performed 'Until You Come Back' and 'My Love Is Your Love' with Babyface and Wyclef Jean on the 1999 telecast. It will also mark her first primetime U.S. network performance in five years since appearing on the 'World Music Awards' in 2004.

According to a rep for Dick Clark Productions, Houston will also be presented with the American Music Awards International Artist Award, in recognition of "special artists who have gone beyond the borders of their own country to be acknowledged for their superstar status around the globe." She becomes the eighth honoree to join a elite group of award-winning recipients, including Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyoncé.

Previously announced American Music Award acts include Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert. The American Music Awards will broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Nov. 22 at 8 PM EST on ABC.
