Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

April continues to be bitchy to Angie and then tells Libra and Keesha about it.

Libra is now trying to turn Keesha on Steven saying "you know y'all when they went in the diary room with those sock puppets they were makin' fun of all of us." She then points to Keesha saying "And he was in there too you know. He was in there too. He was in there too."

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Really!!?!?! Really?!?!?! "medium brown" people aren't reffered to as black anymore?! Really?!?!?

You misquoted him AGAIN by the way. He called him a big black man. Go listen to the clip. He is black and i don't know if you've seen him working out but he's jacked so as far as I'm concerned he's "big" You're totally totally over reading everything because you're still holding onto the coloured thing and looking for him to be racist. Far from "Victimizing" sock April she was asking for it and they were feeling each other up because real Ollie and real April are constantly feeling all over each other.

And don't give me shit about not being black so I can't possibly know. What makes you think know what's going on in someone's head anymore than anyone. Just because you're over reaching doesn't mean other people are not capable of understanding. I really get the sense you're overly sensetive. If there was a sock Keesha and she said "I need my lil' gay friend" I wouldn't have gotten my panties in a twist. I mean for god's sake it was obvious spoof of all of their actions and personalities and it was pretty accurate.

Get your ears checked! he said "My Big Black Buck!" it IS a racist term. I'm not sensitive. See for your self:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObRjGV7pxXY
And if you wanna use a gay comparison. The proper comparison it would be the equivalent of ollie saying "my fudgepacking friend."

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I'm sorry I didn't see the entire time they were playing I was assuming that you were referring to the actual show and not the prep.

Regardless I've never heard buck used as a racial slur and I still think you're over reacting.

I have never heard Buck used as a racial slur either, and I am back.

You also have to remember he is an actual cowboy. Well rodeo cowboy, but regardless, this doesn't sound out of place for someone who is a cowboy. He also seems a little like a hick anyway.

Still, I at the beginning thought he maybe racist, but I don't really thank so now. The "buck" comment did bother me, than I thought about it more.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Jerry and Keesha just had an extensive conversation about pizza and now I totally want it.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

LMAO, I knew we wouldn't be able to go an entire season without getting into a debate about something. Happens every season! Ahhh, Big Brother...

That's why it's fun ;)

Just like these idiots who go into BB and say they don't like conflict... it's like then why the fuck are you there?

Well I'm not overreacting. Big Black Buck is not a flat out racist term. But it is a term used for years to describe black men as savage animals who prey on white women. It is not harmless.

I am part black there are black people in my family. You are not black there are certain things you just wont understand. I know my history and if you were to have any older black person who knows their shit they wouldnt think it is funny they would think Steven is out of order. I dont expect you to empathize with everything but it's not right to tell people they are wrong when you just don't know what you are talking about.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

This is the only part I take issue with. One should not (and does not) have to be a member of the oppressed group to be able to appreciate the nuances of race discourse in America. I am white -- like super-white, my family is British -- and I think I have a better understanding of these issues than even some people of color. (Even some on this board) Furthermore, FalconFan himself is usually VERY good about these issues. We've had discussions on this board about affirmative action etc. and he always comes out on the "correct" side. LOL. He's usually much better at calling out these racially loaded episodes than most whites and even some blacks, so I'm chalking up this one oversight to, "He's young, he's still learning." (I know you're going to hate that one, Mike)

If we are to engage this discussion (and you and I are fundamentally on the same side of the argument) let us proceed in an intellectually honest way, and not fall back on lazy criticisms like, "You're white so you wouldn't understand."

You know what? I do apologize for that part. I only said it because I was at my whits end with this person. He was kinda trying to say what should or should not be offensive. And sometimes not all the time, people who are not part of a group really don't get it. And he was not getting the nuances of cetrain things. Ill admit when you are not part of that group it really is very difficult to get to that point but not impossible.
But for someone to say everything Steven has said is fine("That little colored girl aint running nothing!") and I'm just sensitive is nonsense. Unfortunately you are a rare white person. But thank you everyone else was acting like I was crazy. AND you are very smart. Your knowledgeable and eloquent explanation is amazing. I can't believe a white person would know or care about what you have said. Are you real?

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

You're missing the point of the white husband comment entirely. Noting that he's white isn't nearly as important when you don't link it with husband. The point is not that he's white but that the relationship is with Libra is an interracial relationship. The fact Memphis had Libra say that and only that, in effect pointing out that Libra constantly points out that her relationship is interracial because she feels it's important. It gives a sense that she thinks special or better than others because she's in an interracial relationship. She continually points it out when it's not pertinent. But somehow that's less racist than using "buck" a synonym for a young virile man to describe a young virile man.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Actually I think Big Black Buck is a term used in porn to describe a black man with a huge penis and a huge appetite. In terms of it's use in slave lingo, a big black buck would normally be the man who was made a foreman to watch the black workers because he is big and strong. The term is not offensive in that sense because he was a man to be respected.

And are we to spend the entire BB10 season discussing race and homophobia?

I was raised on a farm in N C and my grandfather had a black neighbor who he hired to help with the work. They were partners since the man was paid in half the crop, and the income from the crop. His name was Big Joe and he was proud of it. He was often called Big Black Joe and he had a hearty laugh about it. When Big Joe died you would have thought my granddad had lost his son. He went to the corn shed and stayed for hours. For weeks afterward his family came and had dinner with all of us. A huge gathering of white and black who shared life and death and grief. Big Joe's wife was the woman who delivered me at home. She was not an official midwife but she knew her business. Sarah and my Granny always did the canning together and had a quilting frame in the attic where they worked on magnificent quilts and shared gossip.

White, black, green or purple all people deserve respect. Some of us are not taught that as we grow and tend to be a product of our upbringing.

No one said anything to Steven about his remarks and if they found it offensive in any way should have called him on it. Being complacent when offended makes you a culprit.

You can't tell Steven he did a bad thing. Falconfan not finding anything offensive about it shares no blame in stating as much. I, like him, find nothing offensive in the Big Black Buck comment. If it offends you, sir, I feel you are looking to be offended. But I am done with that discussion now.

Ummmmm "this person" is right here and he's understood the nuances and angles and it's you who seem not to be picking up what I'm putting down. You're saying what the nuances of the statement imply about Steven's beliefs and thought process and I'm telling you just because there are certain long reaching historical references and relationships between race and vocabulary doesn't mean that the people who use that vocab are fully aware of the full connotation of the words or phrases or that they intent them to have any more meaning than they have on face value. It would be as if you were to watch "The Landlord" and were to blame the two year old girl who plays "Pearl" for the language she uses.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

LMAO!!

The houseguests were talking about casting and then the feeds cut out and it came back and BB was telling them not to talk about that. And Steven asked BB if they'd play a song for them and then everyone was like "Yeah, yeah one song etc..." And Jessie shouts "My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas!"

and then there's a like one second flush it comes back and Angie is going "of all the songs..." Cuts away for another second or two comes back "you choose?!"

LMAO I love Angie.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

April, Keesha, Libra, and Michelle are catty cunts, hate all of them! I hope Angie/Steve/Dan wins HOH and takes one of them off next week. BTW, its hard to tell where Keesha stands, I think we'll find out when the episodes start airing and we see her dr's.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I think Angie was crying over the frustration of the day and the game and Jerry's comment pushed her over the edge.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Brian, Dan and Steven in the backyard chit-chatting about random shit. Steven takes the opportunity to tell yet another racist joke...

"There's a black guy and a mexican in a car. Who's driving? The cop."

Brian covers his face and Dan doesn't laugh.

3%207-15-2008%208.1.42%20PM-1520632.jpg

OK well that's just straight up racist.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I told y'all that bitch was a racist. It's been like 2 days of feeds and all the racial jokes and comments come from one person.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

^ok, now can we get back to big brother?

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Steven's asking Dan about his personal beliefs, and asks him if he believes in gay marriage. Dan says that he believes gays should be able to have some sort of union, but he wouldn't call it "marriage." Steven says that he doesn't really care about gay marriage, and neither do most other gay guys. He says that more gay guys are interested in bath houses than legalizing gay marriage. Dan asks what a bath house is and Steven says it's basically a gym where gay men go to have sex, LoL.

STEVEN: "You pay to get in, walk around in a towel and find random men to fuck. It's literally like you go to a gym, but instead of working out, you take off all your clothes, put a towel on and walk around looking for a guy to have sex with."

Dan seems unusually interested in this topic, LoL. Gay?

Anyway, Angie just came out all dressed up for pictures. She's wearing a sex black dress and Steven says, "Holy shit, I think I'm straight!" He asks what she's all dressed up for... eviction is tomorrow, not tonight. Brian asks if they moved his eviction up a day early, LoL. Angie says she just wants to dress up for pictures because everyone else is.

pink-7-15-59-15201832.jpg

Now Steven has ordained himself as the mouthpiece for gay values and interests. Another shitty gay on a reality show. We had such high hopes. But i really don't think cbs got what they bargained for with this idiot. Did you know gays care about bathhouses more than equal rights and benefits? I know a lot of gay guys and I never met anyone whose been to a bathhouse or sex dungeon or any of that kink. not that there's anything wrong with that if it's your thing. SO far this fool is racist, stupid, ignorant. I can't wait to see what else he can add to the list.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I know. I will gladly eat my crow Steven definitely just lost some big stock with me.

I do really want him and Dan to stick around though if not for their own value for the sake of Angie's ability to survive because she will undoubtedly need them.

I don't think Steven will be able to get Keesha. I think he'll just move himself into the target spot next week but I home he can because I'd love for a Angie-Brian combo.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

April/Libra/Michelle are bitching about Angie again, ugh! Apparently Angie pissed them off when they wanted to take an "all girls" picture because she mentioned wanting to get out of that hot dress, and now they're all pissed off at her. Grow up, bitches. GROW UP.

Well they were pissed at her yesterday for not wanting to be in Playboy. Her tomboyishness really upsets them for some reason.
