Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Don't forget homosexuals. I can't count the number of damn ass things Steven's said about gay people.

Very true. I cringe every time he makes a homophobic remark. It's not cool. It's not funny making a joke at the expense of your own community.

It just let's heteros think it's ok to talk like that since the gay guy is doing it. I'm extra hard on him for being THIRTY FIVE, GAY and EDUCATED and being so stupid and small-minded.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

What Steven said was just as bad as what Jesse. I never said racist remarks are ok, I just assumed that since this is a gay board people would rather know that some douchebag is saying homophobic things.

Oh, I know. And I'm offended at the things Jesse has said. It's NOT ok to make such remarks but hearing the gay guy in Steven making these ignorant statements it has to at least tell Jesse that he too can be bigoted.

Steven lowered the bar. And I know Ollie and Jesse have said homophobic remarks. But come on... they don't even respect themselves. Ollie having sex on TV? Jessie making himself out to be a fool just by the way he talks (bad grammar) and then in the next sentence telling people how much smarter he is than people give him credit for?

I think out of all the gay guys in all the Big Brother seasons, Marcellus and Bunky (the real Big Brother fans know who I'm talking about) are actually looking pretty normal now compared to Dustin (two seasons ago) and Steven. I think Steven's even worse than Dustin despite Dustin constantly reinforcing stereotypes about gay men (telling the girls how to curl their eyelashes) and making a couple of borderline racist remarks. Steven's gone all out on the racist, homophobic and Islamophobic remarks.

I think Steven has taken the cake for the most prejudiced house guest in all 10 seasons. Maybe that person (name is skipping me) who constantly made anti-Semitic remarks about Eric (from two seasons ago) was worst. I think it was a female too unfortunately.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Fine^. But would you use that word on national TV? Where there are many people watching with limited if any exposure to gays?

Imagine the people who have never talked to a gay man or woman. Imagine what they're thinking when they see a gay man casually use the "F" word when referring to himself. Or telling gay jokes to which he's trying to get a laugh out of the heteros (who is he making a joke about... you, him and the millions of gays).

I wouldn't do that. If he's itching to tell gay jokes, can't he wait til he's out of the house?

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Well listen. I'm not getting on Steven or Dustin or anyone for being who they are. Personally I think given the nature of homosexuality many young and women taken on stereotypical traits because they feel they SHOULD be that way since they're gay. I think it relates to the fact many men/women come to realize their sexual preference at ages when they are just developing their personal identities. And if you want to shape yourself around a stereotype I don't even think there's anything innately wrong or amoral (I think you'll likely be unhappy) but I'm not going to be pissy about how you represent me... because you don't.

It bothers me greatly the way many people lump onto the shoulders of individuals the responsibility of representing a group and demand they no be stereotypical. In reality the situation is in and about itself is to me quite oxymoronic (yeah I make up words deal with it). One person just CAN'T represent a group of people and at the same time not create a stereotype because by patterning ones beliefs of a whole group on any one individual one is buying into stereotypes be it creating new ones or reinforcing old ones. No my issue will never be with people who fit or do not fit stereotypes. My issue will be with fools (gay and otherwise) who think that any one individual CAN represent a varied group and choose to shape their perceptions about that group around one person. It is they who are closed minded and lacking an even most basic understanding of human nature.

If Dustin liked curling his eye lashes and giving fashion pointers more power too him. He likes it. It doesn't hurt anyone. He can do it. I don't like it. I won't. Period. If anyone tries to fashion a connection between me and Dustin simply because we're gay that's the fault of the party forming the uninformed opinion not the fault of either Dustin or myself.

When I was referring to homophobia in the case of Steven, I refer to times when he tries to speak for all gays. Don't try to because you can't. All gays don't share the same opinions. Don't think you can speak for them all because it's trying to (and I know this sounds COMPLETELY nerdy but it's the best metaphor I can think of right now.) make a sum statement that all helium atoms in a balloon are going in one direction. They're not. You'll never get them to. True from time to time you can find an overriding direction, preferences, factors that effect general patterns but they're not all in agreement and you shouldn't try to say they are unless you want to sound dumb.

The best example that comes to my mind is when he said that most gay people care more about "bath houses" than gay marriage. Have you polled all the gay men in America Steven? I don't think you did. If you want to be a total whore and fuck over 500 men hey good luck. I wish you no ill will but don't assume just because you're a whore and the men you meet at whore houses are whores you can go around spreading the word that all gays are promiscuous. It's ridiculous and quite frankly uninformed. It's that type of thing that pisses me off.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

In a perfect world, gay men and women could be who they are without fear. But that's not the world we're living in. We actually have people in this country trying to revise our constitution, 230+ years old, to make gays less than equal (constitutional ban on gay marriage).

We have to be aware of how we come off. I laughed at Kale for playing the game too early the year Dick won. But I have a newfound respect for her. Despite being sheltered and having never met a gay man before, she was completely open minded towards Dustin.

I think you'd be giving too much credit to most Americans who have never met gay men and women if you believed they were open to a friendship with gays. Kale was an exception.

And I totally agree if Dustin wants to wear make up, he should. If Steven wants to tell gay jokes he should.

I should be allowed to walk into NY Central Park at midnight but I wouldn't.

Yes, Big Brother is a game. It's always silly when people pray to God in a TV show game. But the implications for minorities like gays going on a national TV show where people watching gays is HUGE.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I can't hold it against Steven for making gay jokes, because I've done the same thing and I'd be a total hypocrite if I tried to pass judgment on him for it.

For me though, it's sort of like family. I can make fun of my own family, but you can't. It doesn't offend me to hear a gay person making gay jokes as much as it offends me when a straight guy does it, because at least with the gay guy I know with 100% certainty that it's just a joke, whereas that's not necessarily the case with a straight guy. That doesn't mean it's socially responsible, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Sort of how it's more socially acceptable for black people to use "the N word" despite the fact that it shouldn't be used at all.

Spot on, SoapSkank. I fell the same way. I also tell gay jokes to my family and friends but I haven't had one of the str8 ones come back at me with a gay joke which is the way it should be.

That outting in the yard with Memphis, Steve and Angie was such great fun to watch and to watch them having such fun. Hardly ever see Libra or Keesha or April having that kind of playful fun. The only time I remmeber was the talk show bit.

I think they don't partake because they're on slop and they eat as little of it as possible so they dont have a lot of energy.I think Memphis just eats it because he's a guy. The girls usually have a rougher time with slop.

Also i think Angie is more of a tomboy. I don't know to many girls that would put tinfoil on them and do that.

Because there aren't many girls as cool as Angie.

Well if you're going to let fear and prejudice shape your life I can only say that's sad but understandable. I will not. I will be myself, speak my mind, and never regret it and people can take from that what they will.

On the whole however I think your view of people is entirely too dismal and pessimistic. Let me introduce you my friend to America...

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Oh god i loved them on AR, too bad they were clueless when it came to the actual race. They always scraping by, by the skin of their teeth. They were so sweet and warm hearted though. These two are a perfect example of being from a small southern town doesnt mean you have an excuse to be close-minded, judgmental and ignorant. People choose to be racist or homophobic.

soap, what hosting site do you use to post pictures?

Side note: fuck JUB for hating photobucket.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Or realistic. Americans suck...most of them anyway.

I don't think it is entirely our fault. We are just kind of taught to be self-centered and self-important more than people in other countries. Our values are just a bit screwed up.

I've been curious for a while, is it true what they say about the rampant anglophila that occurs on the upper east coast? How often would you say you hear praises of England (or UK) or Europe in general?

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Wow.

What a pitiful stunt for a network to pull. SURELY they have other, more widely watched reality programs (in fact we all know they do) to implement this advert for Craig.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Heh hee! They took the very worst of Libra's clips and put them for the whole world to see. Ah Ha! Hee Hee!
