Re: CODY CUMMINGS - just think Rage Against The Machine
Speaking as someone who's completely indifferent as far as this anti-Cody campaign, after seeing this, I really don't get this guy. I mean, from what I've seen/heard from him, he doesn't necessarily come across as homophobic or even all that conceited, as I've heard alot of people claim - but what he says in this video kind of makes me think he shouldn't be in the gay porn business.
He basically says that performing with men
is, in fact, pushing his limits, but in my opinion, if you're going to be a porn performer, you need to push your limits/boundaries in all forms. That's kind of the fucked up thing about the business today; there are
very few performers who are willing to break out of the box and experiment in different ways. They do what "works" or "sells" instead of pushing the boundaries and possibly taking the opportunity to challenge stereotypes and destroy the same old bland formulas - and, ultimately making it interesting/artistic beyond just something to jack off to. Meanwhile, guys like Cody (who obviously don't look at it that way at all) are put on pedestals and marketed as
the faces of gay porn purely based on the fact that they're conventionally attractive, even though they offer no real effort to make the business anything more than it already is. And it's definitely not just Cody; he's just an example. I could use ALOT of performers who are actually gay to prove this point....
Anyway, I get the fact that his site isn't only geared towards the gay side of porn and it's essentially a bisexual site (and I think it's great that it exists for people who would enjoy it), but if you're going to perform with other men, it shouldn't feel forced. And, just going by what he said and how he acted in the video, it definitely comes across as if it's really not something he enjoys. And, if so, I'd say don't do it. It's not really worth the discomfort I'm assuming he deals with (or this backlash from gay porn fans). I'd say take the pay cut and go to the straight side of the business.
Like I said, I don't feel very intensely one way or the other whether he sucks dick or gets fucked by another guy on his site, because I don't frequent it, and I'm definitely not one of the guys here who are so viciously against him. But it seems to me (strictly from hearing what he said in the video), he's not doing it for the right reasons. I didn't even watch all of it; I stopped once he started his little strip tease, because it felt kind of uncomfortable, as if he felt he was obligated to do it. It's kind of sad, really, because this is either a genius marketing ploy OR he's not very comfortable doing what he's doing. Even if it is a matter of getting an ego boost from gay men drooling over anything you do sexually (even with a female), it's still just kind of depressing.
