the official KAREN CARPENTER thread :)

The Carpenters are one of the best duo groups of all time! I love listening to their music. It's so sad that she's gone. At least her music lives on. I have the book "Little Girl Blue." haven't read it yet but I plan to. Karen and Richard Carpenter had amazing harmonies. Anyone know what Richard Carpenter is doing these days? I guess he retired. She was the voice and he was the musician. There will never be anyone with a voice like Karen Carpenter!

I believe he is trying to pick up on a career again... writing his own music and such. There was also a time when he would play in concert piano pieces with Karen's voice on vocals (long after she was gone)...

I can sit for hours and listen to one great singing voice, in Karen. Now that is close to Christmas get out and enjoy the Karen and Richard songs of Christmas.

HUGE Karen Carpenter fan!!!! I have listened to her for as long as I can remember. My favorite song (of her many great ones) is "Sing" . whenever I hear that song for some reason it brings tears to my eyes, not sure why, it brings me back to my young childhood years.
Also, love "yesterday once more". I could sit and listen to her all afternoon with you and we could just kick back and chill listening to her. That would be "A ticket to ride" lol. pun intended :)

PS. Love her Christmas songs too!

^ They did know how to make great Christmas albums! Perfect to help get in the holiday spirit! :D

Re: Karen Carpenter

She was one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. Her voice had a resonance that just reverberates in your head. Unlike many of today's singers who try to cram in extra notes and flourishes to bring attention to themselves, Karen simply sang the song as written, always beautifully, and brought attention to the beauty of the song. Truly one of the great singers.

i am obsessed with karen carpenter

i cant get her out of my head, nor can i ever get enough of her music... that sweet, pure, velvety voice of gold.

although she died some 30 years ago, way before i was even born, i feel this great connection to her, something rare that i havent felt with anyone else. i feel as though i almost knew her, and am deeply saddened by the tragedy that was her life. she is the number 1 lady in my life. i may come off as crazy -- i dont really care. karen has helped me get through a lot in the last couple years with the beautiful music she made. there is a bond between her and me thats indescribable. i love her, i really do.

now that ive finished rambling on, is there any celebrity you guys feel particularly close to, a celebrity that stands out from the rest, that you think has actually affected your life?

Just, you know, keep eating. :)

Even in my pre-adolesecnce, it was considered somewhat lame to listen to the Carpenters. Nowadays, getting on Sesame Street gets you cool points, but the Carpenters actually covered a Sesame Street song, as well as a Crocker Bank commercial. And that just added to their appearance of non-appearance. They were cheese, definitely, but it wasn't until years later that my palate refined enough that could appreciate much of what they did. Some of their covers still come off as chintzy ("Please Mr Postman"), and I can't redeem "Sing" no matter how I try. But songs like "Superstar" are brilliant.

She had a terrific contralto voice. It would have been great to see what she could have grown into.

Re: i am obsessed with karen carpenter

there's been many that have affected me at some point in my life. i'd say prodigy of mobb deep, gza and odb from wu tang, tupac, and kurt cobain. then that all stopped and i decided to be me.

Re: i am obsessed with karen carpenter

I like her as well. My parents got me into her tbh, but there are days I find myself listening to some of her songs. Such strong passion in her voice one could feel all her emotions. What happened to her was a tragedy.

Another lady right up there for me is Eva Cassidy. Also a sad story, also a brilliant voice. Maybe I'm just attracted to tragic, rare birds.
