Re: Madonna

:rotflmao:

Sure thing.

And one of us is a sound engineer for a living and the other...isn't.

:rotflmao:

And just an FYI, if you're listening to it on Itunes, it most DEFINITELY isn't superior if you've compressed it.
I was just playing with you but you are being a straight up asshole. Please don't comment to me anymore. You are so condescending and egotistical it makes me sick.

Re: Madonna

Now, now, like Madonna wise words go, "Love makes the world go 'round". :P

That's a good message, but I have to say that's arguably the most terrible song on "True Blue", lol. I think it mars an otherwise incredibly fun and mature album. #-o Does anyone here actually like it?

One of the Youtube commenters says "this is like one of those 80s vacation songs, I love it!". It does sound like a cheesy holiday commercial with the faux-latin grooves and horns overlayed against dance/synth-pop, etc. :(

Maybe it just hasn't aged well and is a real product of its time, unlike some of the other "True Blue" tracks which I think stand up nicely.

Re: Madonna

Meh, it's good. Not great. I listen to it. I mean, when I listen to that album, I never skip over it.

I have that Time magazine she was on the cover of in 85 and she talks about how she is in the middle of writing that song while she is on tour. The whole interview was really interesting. I don't mind that song but "Where's The Party" is the song I would skip. Now I don't mind it but back then just got freaked out by the crying at the end, lol. Hey, I was like 12.

Yeah - at "Live Aid" in '85 she debuted "Love The Makes The World Go 'Round", the year prior to it being released on "True Blue". I don't know how it went over, really - but I guess it would have been a good song for the spirit of that event?

I know what you mean about "Where's The Party". It's not one of my favorites - though I thought it was improved somewhat by the remix on "You Can Dance".

Re: Madonna

btw...how does everyone feel about White Heat? I love that song, but most people I know either forget about it or think it's stupid.

I think that song is just "okay" on the album - but I do like the staging of it from the "Who's That Girl" tour with the gold jacket and cool "cops & robbers" choreography and lighting. :) They did a nice job of a live presentation of it. When I first saw that when I was a kid I didn't understand the voiceovers or the reference to any classic movie, but I loved the creativity of that whole number (especially that whole instrumental section starting around 2:55 in this clip) - and hey, the shiny gold jacket.

Re: Madonna

^ I loved that ending!

I think White Heat might be my fav on True Blue. Don't ask me why cause I couldn't tell you. But that's the song I get stuck in my head most when I listen to True Blue.

Re: Madonna

It's not terribly surprising that nobody here is discussing her films... anybody like her acting? Favorite Madonna film?

In 1987 I took the bus to get to where Who's That Girl was playing. I was 14. Anyone over 14 would hate that movie, lol. I also saw Shanghai Surprise at the movies. I really liked it at the time. I bought the dvd recently at Big Lots for $3 but have yet to watch it. Something tells me being 14 had a lot to do with loving the movies. Desperately Seeking Susan is just a great 80's movie. It captured Madonna at that moment. I was 15 when Dick Tracey came out and if you loved Madonna you loved that Movie. She sang and got to cat around. Once Madonna started doing movies like Dangerous Games or whatever it was called she lost the fun part of her movies. She shouldn't try to be a serious actress. Her quirky movies are the most memorable. Like I said in a previous post I can't speak on Evita. Never saw it. HATE musicals.

Re: Madonna

A personal favorite is "Who's That Girl". She WAS Madonna throughout that whole movie. When I think of the "True Blue" era, it was a beautiful one, but it was one where Madonna seemed to just let go in a freedom sense and was just really bubbly. Nikki Finn was Madonna at that time. I think "Who's That Girl" was such a fitting role for her. It was a HORRIBLE movie because she was too much of a bubbly persona in both her music and the movie, you can't take it seriously when it comes to the movie. But it's just such a fun cheese fest. LOL.

Yeah, I'd always read "Who's That Girl" was meant to be a "screwball comedy" in the classic tradition of "odd couple" movies in the decades earlier but looking back at the reviews it's amazing how much people seemed to dislike that movie, heh.

What does everyone think of Madonna's stuff on the "Who's That Girl" soundtrack? Not sure if it's really been discussed in the thread. I love the title track - that latin influence (syncropation, instruments like timbales/congas, horn shots, etc.) in full effect, you could say maturing more from "True Blue"'s, a year earlier, "Love Makes The World Go Round" (much as I dislike it) or "Where's The Party". "Causing A Commotion" is a lot of fun (check out some of the remixes), the ballad "The Look of Love" is nice enough, and "Can't Stop" is filled with late-80s cheese but still pretty darn catchy. As for the rest of the soundtrack by the other artists? Meh...

Re: Madonna

"Who's That Girl" is my favorite Madonna movie!! "Desperately Seeking Susan" is probably my second favorite. I love the humor, stories, and the New York scenery of them. They're great! :D

Re: Madonna

I haven't seen all of her movies. Of the ones I have seen, I love Desperately Seeking Susan. And I did really get excited over her cameo in Die Another Day.

Re: Madonna

I really liked/like the songs she did off the soundtrack. "Who's That Girl" the song is just special to me. Still listen to it and "Causing A Commotion" and "The Look Of Love". A little trivia. Anyone remember what Who's That Girl was gonna be called but Madonna had a hard time writing a song with the title?

Re: Madonna

I also like this song she did as a demo in 1981.I also never saw the pics they used in making this video. Also here is the Pepsi commercial. I remember sitting next to the VCR ready to tape it when it premiered during the Cosby show. It was only shown 3 times after that I think. If you were 14 in 1987, you were 17 when Dick Tracy came out. ;)

DSS is crap. I've only seen it once. Same with Shanghai.

Next Best Thing was beyond atrocious. One of the worst things I've ever seen in my life.

Dangerous Game and League were the best she's ever "acted."

Evita was awesome.

Nope. Only shown once. Never again.

Re: Madonna

LOL. You guys ever see that episode of Family Guy where Peter and that other guy were fighting each other over who was the better KISS fan? It was funny/cute. We totally got that going on in here. But a fandom thread isn't a fandom thread without a fan battle.
