I'd say the biggest strike against Madonna would be her outrageous ticket prices. She might be my favorite artist ever (and she is), but I'm not paying $200 to see her lipsync "Ray of Light" while pretending to play guitar.

That's the thorn isn't it? Icons are worth more, they sell for more. I can't say I blame Madonna. If I were as epic as she, I'd probably milk it. I think we all would, despite our urge to be for the people. In thirty years, if Gaga is still around and has finally achieved Madonna status she'll sell for big dollars too.

That said, I would definitely pay $200 to see Madonna.

Supply and demand. It wouldn't make sense for her to sell tickets at lower prices as long as people are willing to pay more.

I saw the Backstreet Boys for $60 for floor seats. But it was after Kevin left, they released Unbreakable, and it was in Moncton. It was my first concert actually because nobody comes to NB/NFLD. Then I saw Avril Lavinge the next weekend for $50 floor seats in Saint John.

When I was a teenager, I thought Britney Spears was cool. So when Madonna and Britney did their song together I had high hopes. Man. Was I let down.

Fortunately, since I'm not a Gaga fan, I'd have lowered expectations. But you're right, chances are they would do something pretty cool. So I might be pleasantly surprised. And with all the Madge v. Gaga hype, they'd probably stand to make a fair chunk of change off such a project. They should go for it!

It will eventually happen. It's one of those things that just have to happen.

Something I've always wondered is why doesn't Madonna have a Twitter account. She's one of those people that always keeps up with the times but when it comes to the internet she seems to be some steps behind from everyone.

I'd rather not see Madonna team up with Gaga. People would just think she's desperate like they did when she did the song with Britney.

Plus, it's just my personal opinion, but Madonna's track record of sharing the spotlight with other people on her songs hasn't produced very good results. "Love Song" is probably my least favorite song Like a Prayer. "Me Against the Music" and the Ricky Martin duet do nothing for me either.

"Take a Bow" and a few of the songs on Hard Candy are good, but Madonna's really the lead singer in those songs and the other guy is usually doing back-up vocals, like Babyface on "Take a Bow."

I wasn't even aware Madonna did a song with Ricky Martin. I'll have to look that up! Thanks for mentioning it.

I never really thought about it, but you're right. I never cared for her duets either. Although I do like her "Sing" portion of the Annie Lennox song. "Love Song" from "LAP" was awful. "Me Against the Music" was bad, too. And I may be alone here, but I really don't care for "4 Minutes" w/ Timberlake. I kind of like the Ricky Martin duet, "Be Careful (Cuidado Con Mi Corazon)".

I LOVE "Love Song" and it sounds great on my remastered Like A Prayer.

"Love Song" is probably my least favorite song Like a Prayer.

It's an exciting concept that Madonna and Prince might work together on a song. I've never really warmed up to "Love Song" as a listner emotionally, and it actually seems a little conceptually/sonically out of place on the "Like A Prayer" album, but I can appreciate it from the perspective that I think a lot of Prince's ideas and production on the song were ahead-of-their-time and some of it still sounds fresh and not dated, how many years later? I also kind of think of it as a first nudge to Madonna into the electronica sound of a few years later like "Vogue", "Rescue Me", and of course the "Erotica" album.

The song's got this spiky minimalist vibe to it, like it's fragments strung together, and I know some people would think that a weakness but I love the idea of them flirting with little "motifs" as performers and in the production. Instruments stand out all stark, and "Love Song" moves through some distinct sections (bit of a trippy section in that, "Time...goes by so slowly, for those who wait..." part) and there's some interesting vocal harmony lines (unusual intervals, resolutions) and some intelligent synthdrum programming (for instance, at one point instead of just repeating snare samples on beats 2 and 4, Prince varies the sound on the 4th beat by introducing a new layer).

I guess Prince's sound around that era (I'm thinking of his "Batman" soundtrack tracks, same year) is similar. Something like his "Arms of Orion" duet from that "Batman" soundtrack is a more fleshed out idea but I swear I can hear bits of the genesis of that in this track - and he sure loved that synth-wind effect around that time.

Here's the song for anyone reading this thread who hasn't heard it, or can't recall it, or it's been a while. I agree it's not easy to like or warm up to, but there are some mature and delightful musical and sonic ideas in it.

I think Madonna's Take a Bow is a really sad song for some reason.

That song with Ricky Martin sucked.

Take A Bow probably still my favorite Madonna ballad.

For ballads I used to put "You'll See" on repeat during my break up in the 90's. "Power Of Good-Bye" is a great one. In the 80's I loved "The Look Of Love" I felt that song never got the attention it deserved.

I really like a lot of her ballads.

"Crazy for You"-("Vision Quest")

"Live to Tell"-("True Blue")

"Oh Father"-("Like a Prayer")

"This Used to Be My Playground"-("A League of Their Own")

"In This Life"-("Erotica")

"You Must Love Me"-("Evita")

I just started reading the book written by Madonna's brother. I only had a few minutes during breaks at work today, but it's REALLY volatile. Some of that dirt is just your given diva crap; evian water served at a specific temperature, dressing rooms must be painted white... but some of the stuff her brother says is just downright wrong. He's an asshole!
