Madonna donates Chanel boots to school auction

NEW YORK — Bake sales and raffles? So passé.

Now that it boasts Madonna as a parent, New York City's LaGuardia High School was able to auction off a pair of Chanel boots worn by the Material Mom at its spring fundraiser.

LaGuardia, the so-called "Fame" school, is a public high school specializing in the visual and performing arts. Madonna's daughter Lourdes enrolled there in September.

The Daily News reports that the LaGuardia auction also featured an item donated by novelist Jonathan Letham, who's an alum. He auctioned off a chance to become a character in his next book.

There was no information on what either of the lots sold for.

High-profile parents at some New York City schools are able to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars at the schools' annual auctions.

Poor Madonna, so young and naive. Little did she know history would prove she had nothing to worry about.

Not only did she surpass any sucess Whitney achived but she went on to world dominance.

She became a superstar, an icon, a legend.

Here we are 25+ years later and Madonna is celebrating Oprah, while Whitney is in rehab for drugs and alcohol.

Funny how things turned out...

Fact: In 1995, Whitney sent Madonna flowers when she had to go to court and face her stalker. A couple years later, Madonna said that Whitney Houston has the greatest voice of any female singer in the world.

Madonna loves & respects Whitney. Whitney loves & respects Madonna. I love & respect both. Both were ALREADY superstars, icons, and legends.

Now continue this focus/discussion on Whitney in this here Madonna thread, if you like. By all means - please, flatter me some more so I can do another evil grin smile in your honor.

And yet she almost doesn't mention her or compliments her like she does with Whitney Houston -- who is her MAJOR/MAIN influence...who she ALWAYS gives her thanks to and throws her name out there...



 
Really? I see Gaga compliment Madonna frequently. She'd be crazy not to, considering she's basically regurgitating Blonde Ambition-era Madonna for Generation Y's gay men.

Yeah, she really would be crazy for NOT thanking her or giving her some type of acknowledgment. But she thanks & mentions WHITNEY HOUSTON so much more than she does Madonna. And everyone thought that would be the other way around, since she's so much more like a Madonna than a Whitney. When "Born This Way" came out everyone was like why aren't you thanking Madonna? Instead it was "I wrote this song with Whitney in mind and imagining Whitney singing it instead of myself." And with other tracks on her new album, its been pretty much Whitney, Whitney, Whitney. Her recurring theme is Whitney. Describing "Marry The Night" as a "Whitney & Bruce Springsteen baby", and "Fashion For His Love" as YET ANOTHER Whitney-inspired song.

So she says Whitney Houston is her "idol" and her main/major inspiration. And that's obvious by her. Wonderfullll. :luv:

Trippin' or not -- Gaga loves/respects her some Whitney. She might as well join this board and help me stan for her around here. The way she be throwing Whitney's name out there. I bet she would go hard for Whitney if she posted here. :lol:

But I agree you could blatantly hear the Madonna influence in that song. It was obvious. But yet, Gaga didn't give Madonna props. She gave them all to Whitney. As she continues and continues to do.
 
Personally I can hear the Madonna influence in nearly every Gaga song. For a change of pace there's one where she basically rips off "Careless Whisper" and another on her new album that's basically a recreation of "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," but other than that, I find her to be Mini-Madonna and not as good as the original even though the similarities to Madonna do make me like her.

That's why I kind of laughed when the general public was like "OMG, Born This Way sounds like a Madonna song!" I was all, "So have you guys not been listening to Gaga's music for the last two and a half years OR..."

I just hope the Gagamania makes Madonna step up her game for her next album. Especially where the videos are concerned because I've never been so underwhelmed with a set of Madonna videos than the ones we got for Hard Candy. COADF at least had Hung Up's iconic pink leotard, whereas I can barely even remember the video for 4 Minutes and that was Hard Candy's best.
 
If I were a "singer" I'd mention Whitney more too. Why not name drop the superior voice? Gaga is nuts and an egomaniac if she thinks her voice comes ANYWHERE near Whitney's! And it's safe not to mention Madonna too much... the imitation should never make too many obvious nods to the original.
 
To be fair I think Gaga has a technically stronger voice than Madonna's. But I'll still take Madonna in the 80's and 90's over Gaga now because Madonna knew how to emote with her voice despite its limitations. At least until she did Evita... or started using her vocoder on every single album, either or.
 
I'm not even just ssaying this because I love Madonna (there are a million singers who can out sing the Queen), but I genuinely think Madonna is a better singer than Gaga. I find Gaga flat. And she's always doing weird sounds with her voice.
 
Does anybody here do mash ups themselves? I'd love to hear a mash up of Madonna's Rain with Anthoney Callea's Rain.
