"MDNA's" first week will be bolstered by a successful album sales promotion involving Madonna's upcoming world tour. U.S. customers who bought a concert ticket also had the option of also receiving "MDNA" as part of their purchase. The only sales that will count towards Billboard's charts are those where the customer opted to receive the album.

Awwww and I was so hoping it would've slayed on its own merit, and not by some "buy a ticket, get a free copy" deal. :(

First Gaga's 99¢ deal, now this. :(

Hits Daily Double predicts it's going to sell 325-350k in its first week, and I don't think they have access to the ticket figures to include them in with their prediction figures. I mean... how could they? They track actual sales. So either way it's having a big opening week that handily beats Hard Candy's debut week.

Besides, Gaga's deal was FAR more calculated IMO, since the entire cost of the album to any consumer was $1. MDNA's "free album" deal only comes to the people who bought a concert ticket that costs hundredS of dollars and have specifically opted in for a free copy. Prince did this years ago, actually, but his albums came free with any ticket, rather than the customer having to say yes, he or she wants the album (although who wouldn't?).

Too bad the free copy is the one-disc, edited version of MDNA... in other words, no1curr. I hope the diehards love their high-quality MDNA coasters since they probably already have the deluxe explicit version, lbr.

Guess it didn't take long before the little monster troll reserved it's ugly head.

Born This Way will ALWAYS have an asterisk attached to it for the amount of giveaways. Considering the album doesn't have a hit lead single and Madonna is her fourth decade of having hits, I'd say it's a respectable debut. Maybe you should do as Mama Mother and STF until you have anything to so say worth listening to. And this is coming from someone who's not too crazy about the album.

I was happy to see that even two of my straight guy friends bought the new album... was the Superbowl responsible for that? I won't look a gifthorse in the mouth. This is great!

How do you rank the songs against each other, guys?

I think I've listened to the album enough to have solid enough opinions to work out a ranking:
16. B-Day Song -- The only song that I almost always skip. I can see why it didn't make the standard edition.
15. I'm a Sinner -- This one just kind of bores me, and once it goes into one religious reference after another on the bridge I tune out entirely.
14. Superstar -- It's cute, but I don't find it that catchy. Not much more than filler to me.
13. I Fucked Up -- it's decent but I have hard time saying anything else about it, except how I like the way it ends with her saying "...or not."
12. Best Friend -- I do like the lyrics on this a lot, but I kind of wish the music were slower because it sounds like it should be a ballad.
11. Turn Up the Radio -- summery and catchy but also one of the most generic songs on the album. The chorus doesn't soar enough, but it's still good.

10. Beautiful Killer -- my favorite of the deluxe edition bonus tracks, easily. I put it second on my playlist of the album so it leads into Gang Bang.
09. Falling Free -- haunting instrumentation, decent vocals and great lyrics (thank you Joe Henry!). It goes on a little too long though.
08. I Don't Give A -- guilty pleasure, perhaps? Madonna's raping verses are totally dorky and stupid but still endearing, and I love how Nicki finishes the song.
07. Girl Gone Wild -- I think it actually works pretty well as an album opener with the Act of Contrition passage. But the video with the dancing girl in the pink bikini is the main reason I've come around on this song.
06. Give Me All Your Luvin' -- I never had a problem with it. It's Beautiful Stranger meets a Superbowl jingle but it's fun and has a great video.

And now for the William Orbit gush-a-thon:
05. Some Girls -- So noisy and chaotic but awesome at the same time. I love the background comments like "Got those fucking porn star heels on!"(???)
04. Love Spent -- I'm glad this album has songs that are obviously personal like this one is. Banjo, strings and electronic effects actually work together well!
03. I'm Addicted -- Really catchy and energy, and I LOVE the bridge when the electronic effects soar.
02. Masterpiece -- While the backing music could have been a little more fleshed out, I love the lyrics and Madonna's vocals on this one.
01. Gang Bang -- so moody, so angry, so experimental. Where has this Madonna been for the last decade? Love it.

The same way...Billboard...got them?

Oh, somebody seems a little irritated!oops!....well, when the official numbers come out next week, so will *MDNA.(*8*)

I look forward to seeing the numbers excluding the "buy a ticket, get a free copy" deal.:D

The ticket figures are reported to Billboard since they're the ones making THE charts for music. Hits Daily Double tracks retail sales and makes chart predictions based on that information. There's no reason for M's team to send ticket voucher figures to them.

I do like the lyrics on that one. It would be really easy for her to trash Guy but I enjoy that she points out stuff like "It wasn't always perfect but it wasn't always bad."

Well, I still don't like it. Still don't see what all the raving is about? I like Girl Gone Wild and Masterpiece but that's it. I already put the MDNA file away. Sad over that. As a life long fan I think this is the worst album. Maybe the next one will be good. And Give Me All Your Luvin has to be in my top 5 hate sings. Awful still. No number of listens can change that.

You rang? Ra Ra Ah Ah Ah Na Na Ooh La La.

You're saying I have to tolerate this person just because she's been around the block?

She gets around. I'll give her that.

She loves gettin' around...

My husband and I agree that MDNA is better than Confessions... I didn't think it would be. We love Confessions.

Madonna Tops Elvis With 12th U.K. No. 1

Madonna landed her 12th U.K. No. 1 album on Sunday (April 1) with "MDNA" to overtake Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most chart-topping albums in the market. Chris Brown's "Turn Up The Music" gave him his first U.K. No. 1 single as a lead artist.

Madonna's span of album bestsellers began in September 1985, when "Like A Virgin" climbed to the summit, ten months after it first charted. She achieved two further No. 1 albums in the 1980s, three in the 1990s (including the "Evita" soundtrack, which also featured other artists), and five in the 2000s. She now pulls clear of Presley's collection of 11 titles. "MDNA" sold 56,000 copies last week, according to the Official Charts Company.

From the new set, "Masterpiece" also hit the singles chart at No. 68 and opening single "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., reappeared on the top 75 at No. 71. Madonna's 2009 compilation "Celebration" dipped 35-37 and Rhino/Warner Music's "The Complete Studio Albums 1983-2008" charted at No. 70.

I'm not the biggest Madonna fan by any means, but I happened to get her latest and I LOVE it! The only song I don't like much is I'm Addicted. My favorite song is Gang Bang. She has so much attitude in that song, I love it. She did a great job.

It always gives me a sort of warm feeling when I hear non-fans are enjoying her work! And I agree, I'm Addicted is not very good.

i wonder if she's gonna get the top album or lionel richie.
sometimes the current musical comparisons have not been fair in the media.

for instance, madonna's top ten record time frame vs rihanna's: all of those Madonna singles featured only her as opposed to Rihanna's where she was a featured artist in most of the songs that she was counted for. and the comparison between MDNA guest appearance vs Lionel's. I mean, Lionel's is a duets album, duh.

and dont get started on Beyonce's 16 grammy's i think.
