She has been releasing "rarities" to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her debut and so far...the "rarities" have been a dud.
The Live debut LP has been in circulation for decades.
The remixes have also been in circulation for many many years.
She could have released demos or "special " live performances never before seen or even live duets like the one with Bolton, which has also been available for some time now.

It is the same feeling I had when Clive Davies released the "Live" Whitney record and there was nothing special or rare about the collection - if any, the only special thing was the omission of some truly great Whitney live performances. Wish Clive just released Classic Whitney the Concert in full - that would have been better.

Got excited when a Mariah - Lauryn Hill collaboration was announced.
It turned out it was NOT really an actual collaboration but Mariah merely sampling Lauryn Hill's part in the Fugee's Killing Me Softly song.
What a dud!

Cannot wait for September 29th when her memoir comes out!

I hope she goes into more detail about her years in "Sing Sing" with ole Tommy Mottola. :corn:

"Save The Day" wasn't great. Both her falsetto and belting sounded very laboured to me. I still think she sounds decent for her amount of time singing to extremities and I realize it's not 1995 anymore but does she sound like that on all new songs? But more than that, the sample was kinda lazy.

She is the only singer to have been through 4 ethnicities She started off white then was Italian then became Puerto Rican and is now some how black.

Mariah's spoken about being multiracial since she first hit the scene. The media erroneously tagged her as "a white girl trying to sound black" (which was beyond ignorant, but I digress), but she always said her mother is Irish-American and her father was black and Venezuelan. That may have been seen as "exotic" or "unheard of" back then, but there are plenty of other multiracial people out here in the world.

And she never claimed to be Italian. She said growing up other kids who didn't know her ethnic background assumed that she was.

I have now read the book and I thought it was great. Learnt a lot about Mariah that I did not know. She has been through some tough times but I am glad she triumphed over adversity!

I'm still on the waiting list. :( I read an article earlier today about an alternative rock album Mariah recorded during the Daydream sessions and that there are even vids floating around on YouTube. Never knew she had it in her so I'm curious to hear to how it turned out.

Has anyone else read the book and if so what did you think of it?

I've got another 60 pages to go (I'm at the part where she just released Charmbracelet), but I can say that I loved every minute of it and I appreciated her honesty. I knew about some of the drama about her sister (minus allegedly drugging her and attempting to pimp little Mimi out), but the dysfunctional relationship she had with her brother and mom was eye-opening. She's spoken quite a bit about the suffocating atmosphere during her marriage to Tommy, but girlfriend went all the way in with the details of his controlling ways and abusive behavior. I'm shocked she lasted as long as she did living with him and that she didn't lose her entire mind after his sabotage with the Glitter debacle. Both the film and soundtrack got a bad rap, but thankfully people are coming around on both of them. I also loved how she used her sense of humor even in the bleakest recollections to get through them. The "laughing to keep from crying" thing.

I'd like to see a film adaptation of the book, but I don't know who I'd want to play Mariah. Probably an unknown.

Glad to hear your are liking the book. I loved it too!
