Tomorrow marks the 25th anniversary of (what both Mariah and this Lamb think is her best album) Butterfly and she's going all out with a re-release both on vinyl and cassette (the latter of which seems to have made a comeback), a digital expanded edition which includes 8 bonus tracks including her remake of The Roof with Brandy, a documentary on the Honey music video, Butterfly era live performances, merch and more.

Happy 23rd anniversary to this underrated soundtrack (sadly released on such a tragic day).

^ Women's feet look sexy in that kind of shoe.
Those were a staple of hers in the late 90's and early 00's. Insane to me that pic is 25 years old now.

Cute rare Mariah/Derek Jeter pic.

I'm torn between finding it sad her voice is long gone (keeping it real) and also a bit annoyed at how it's still taken for granted that she's a great vocalist in the present tense. Whenever she makes a big appearance, going back several years now it's usually a mess, headlines and general opinion is disappointment, yet funnily there's still this element of shock and surprise as if this is new.

Hmm, I only remember the infamous NYE performance from 2016 getting negative headlines, but there were videos of her looking stiff while performing some shows during her Christmas tour at the end of this year. She's doing much better on her new tour, but yeah, the golden voice of the early to mid-90's is gone and has been for a long time. I saw some clips of an acoustic performance she did last week or so and she sounded really good.

It's annoying (though unsurprising) that she hasn't been inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet.

Listened to the acoustic set and although I can't trust that it being on her official channel doesn't mean it's a bit edited, the most I can say is that within a very small range, it wasn't horrible.

I honestly don't mean to sound like a hater, but Mimi was named the 5th greatest singer of all time. Talking peak skills who's to say that's wrong necessarily, but her peak did not last that long. She's a great example of the question should peak or longevity matter more when talking greatness.

It's possible the problem is also me to a degree. Maybe I'm oversensitive to singers' vocal changes. For instance, some people think Aretha Franklin sounded great her whole career, whereas for me (not sure how familiar you are with her) her voice is mostly a mess past the early 80s :p.

I know what you mean about post 80's-Aretha (the 🚬 played a huge part in that and I'll never understand why singers jeopardize their gift with it). As for Mariah, even in her post-prime voice she was outsinging most of the female singers out there, but her nodules (and her drinking) made her voice more fragile so she'd sing 90% of the song live and lip the strenuous parts. All that recording an album every year and touring throughout the 90's took a toll. I'm glad her voice hasn't deteriorated the way Whitney's did.

It's so tough for all those 'vocal athletes' to stay on top form forever at the best of times. Even Celine who's appeared to live much cleaner had her share of vocal troubles and did/does more than her share of lip syncing (well before her major health diagnosis).

New record out 9/26.
