Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

The album leaked this morning and I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised. After listening to 'Obsessed' and her remake of that one boring song, I wasn't expecting much in the way of anything. But the rest of the album is full of witty lyrics, catchy melodies, and velvety vocals. I find it to be far more aurally pleasing than Whitney's album tbh (and I'm a casual fan of both artists).

Highlights:
"Betcha Gon Know"
"Candy Bling"
"Standing O"
"It's A Wrap"
"Angels Cry"

Re: Mariah Carey - "I Want To Know What Love Is"

She sounds like a little ass kid in the studio version.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

I am loving Angels Cry. I think it's the best song of the album, by far. And the rest of the album is better than I thought it was going to be.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

My favorites:

Betcha Gon Know (by far--that intro is amazing)
Standing O
Angels Cry/reprise
Languishing reprise

Maybe later:

Ribbon

Distant possibilities:

Up Out My Face (really want to like it: starts off promising and I love the title)
Inseparable

So yeah, out of the new songs released I'm really only playing 4-5. I'm leaning against buying the album and just doing the individual songs instead, but it depends on whether more grow on me. I'm thinking it's doubtful though.

Little nervous because I don't feel any big hits off the album. I think "Obsessed" was probably her best shot. And yeah, her album doesn't have to be about hits, whatever--everyone (including her, I'm sure) wants her to break that damn Beatles record already.

Re: What's you FAVORITE Mariah Carey song??

I love Vision of Love, Dreamlover, We Belong Together, Do You Think of Me?, among many others. Can't narrow it down to one favorite.

Re: What's you FAVORITE Mariah Carey song??

I really resent the way she sings that song. I feel like if she'd actually sung the song instead of whispering nearly all of it, I'd love it. Even with that I still found the video pretty powerful.

So yeah, thumbs down. Love the content, hate the delivery.

Agree 100%. Perfect way to say it.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

i cant stop yawning when I heard the whole album...whatta total bore...
the only track that I like Up Out My Face...the rests? BOOORING
again, Mimi failed to impress me...I'd rather listen to E=MC2 which had more catchy tunes (although more hip-hop/rnb)

I really agree with ljhotboy...I expect in this album I will find a lot of good ballad tracks, but what I get is nothing..before it leaked I heard it would be Mimi's ballad album just like the 90s era of her... I missed the 90s era of Mimi..and now I'd rather buy Madonna's Celebration than this boring album

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

She keeps making the same cd over n over n over. And what happened to her voice. Cant she sing anymore? Her voice of late doesnt even sound like her.

Agreed. The album is whack and yawn-inducing.

"Memoirs" is actually a pretty disappointing album to me. It's dull, and please don't expect to hear Mariah's voice soar over the tracks because it VERY rarely does. Nearly all of the songs sound so similar. The production is very minimal, like Mariah went into the studio with whatever producers are hot right now and was like "ohhhh shit this beat is hot we gotta lay this track down!" for just about every song that made it on the album. I can barely tell most of the songs apart not only from sound but from the lyrics which are about kicking some man to the curb over and over again.

"E=MC2" was light years more entertaining to listen to. I expected some great ballads on this album, but there really isn't one. "Angel's Cry" is about as close as we get, and it's nothing spectacular. Once the initial love affair with Mariah that always bubbles up when she releases new material dies down I doubt this album will get much attention at all.

I was really looking forward to buying this album, but now I just think I'd be wasting my money because I honestly know I won't listen to it much. I didn't expect it, but Whitney's album is a hell of a lot better.
If you want some good music to drift off to sleep to then "Memoirs" is perfect. I already fell asleep while listening to it once.

Songs worth hearing:
"H.A.T.E.U."- It's not as good as I expected, but it's decent.
"Inseparable"- Mariah sounds pretty good at the end of this song, even though she doesn't sustain the long notes quite the way I would have liked. It's still a generically produced track, though.
"Up Out My Face"- It's the most fun track on the album and is pretty cool, despite some cheesy lyrics. Still not great by any means.
"Angel (The Prelude)"- A great little prelude. This is barely a minute long, but it's about the best thing on the whole album. Mariah uses her whistle register throughout it and it really does remind me of her earlier work, which most of this album couldn't pull of. Should have been a full song.
"Angels Cry"- A nice track. But following the Angel prelude it's underwhelming. And considering what follows right behind it, it's made even more so.
"Languishing (The Interlude)"- It's an interlude but it's over two minutes long and sounds wonderful. Sounds very old school Mariah and surpasses every full song on the album by far.
"I Want to Know What Love Is"- A nice take on the song, and the most soaring vocals we get from Mariah on the album, which is kind of a letdown in itself.

All this leads me to the question of why are so many of Mariah's best tunes only short interludes? Sigh...

:=D:

I so agree. ..| Whitney's album is a HELL of a lot better than this garbage. Quantity over Quality, is how I would describe Mariah's album. A lot of tracks included, but most of them are bland filler material. Not many standouts, unlike on Whitney's 11-track album where every song is great and pretty much single-worthy. I only liked a few tracks out of the bunch on Mariah's. And this is pretty much the same conclusion I'm witnessing all across the net. Not good...!oops!

.....and her voice? #-o

"You a mom and pop; I'm a corporation," Mariah Carey sings on "Obsessed," the groovy ode to a stalker that's been released as the first single from her 12th album. Ostensibly a dis of Eminem, who's been taking shots at her on his last few discs, it's actually an apt statement for her entire career, which is more often lauded in terms of sales--160 million albums sold worldwide, the best-selling female performer of the '90s, recipient of an $80 million mega-deal with Virgin Records that was the biggest record contract ever, etc.--than artistic accomplishments. Now we can add the crass marketing of her new disc, which finds the CD packaged with a 34-page insert crafted with Elle magazine featuring ads from upscale fashion, champagne, jewelry and tourism brands.

"The idea was really simple thinking: 'We sell millions of records, so you should advertise with us,'" said Antonio "L.A." Reid, chairman of Carey's current label, Island/Def Jam. In other words, the star with the infamous five-octave range essentially is a commodity, so why not use her to sell other products besides her recordings?

Carey's boosters in the media (Elle included, of course) and the legions of self-professed "lambs" who comprise her fan base are hailing "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" as a return to her R&B roots and a move away from the transparent and base attempts to score street cred and appeal to the teeny-boppers with a more hip-hop-oriented sound on "The Emancipation of Mimi" (her 2005 comeback after a series of flops and a much-publicized personal meltdown early in the new millennium) and "E=MC2" (her last release in 2008 ). This is true to a point: Working with producers the Dream and Tricky Stewart, the once again happily married Mrs. Nick Cannon delivers an overall smoother sound this time, much heavier on brash ballads and genteel slow jams than dance-floor groovers, with the first single a notable exception.

But to consider this a great R&B record requires one to think of the likes of her favorites Jodeci as the pinnacle of the genre, because the fussy, soulless, airless vibe that dominates the album doesn't have much to do with true R&B greats from Aretha Franklin to Erykah Badu. Carey's former and present chart rival Whitney Houston actually comes closer to tapping that storied vein on her latest.

Though the 39-year-old Carey boasts of distinguishing herself from other divas by being the driving force behind writing her own songs--unlike Houston--that isn't necessarily something to be proud of, given the predominance of saccharine melodies and clichéd true-romance lyrics. "We would walk in the park every Saturday/Brand new, all in love, kissing time away/You was all up on me, it was plain to see/That I was your girl," she coos in "Candy Bling." Yet even that dreck is better than her choice in covers here: a version of the hoary FM-rock radio staple "I Want to Know What Love Is" that strips away almost everything but piano and vocals but still manages to sound more bombastic, phony and over-produced than the Foreigner original.

Through it all, as usual, Carey over-sings at every opportunity, needlessly trilling up and down the scales as if we needed one more reminder of why she's the favorite virtuoso of the "American Idol" crowd substituting skill for soul. Eminem isn't right about much, but he's spot on when it comes to dismissing this butterfly.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

I know, right?! She's Mariah, she can do whatever the hell she pleases. No one gives a rat's ass about Whitney and that dry ass voice of hers. Watch Mariah bump her out of the way and return the spotlight to where it really belongs.

Mimi all the way. Reclaiming her throne with the release of each album.

Girl, sit down and give it a rest. Give it up.

Say what? #1 in how many countries? Say what? How many glowing reviews? Hmmm.

So much for no one giving a rat's ass, huh? And so much for anyone with some good sense actually taking you seriously. !oops!

(Oh YES I did...:D)

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

Y'all need to cut that shit out.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

Wow the lambs are vicious in this thread. But I've heard the entire album and It was good, but nothing spectacular. And referring to those who criticize Whitney's voice, have you heard Mariah lately. Her voice sounds dry as hell that it seems like she whispers through all her songs. Out of the two, Whitney had a better album.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

Considering the fact that Mariah has accomplished these same feats in the past with many of her albums, those figures mean nothing to me. I'm sure that's something for you Whitney fans to get excited about, but the lambs among us know that that kind of success is just, ahem, standard for Mariah.

And considering that Whitney has been out of it since 2002 doesn't give you much room to flaunt and boast. She's only recently become relevant again, whereas Mariah has been relevant throughout her entire career.

Now, with all that being said, I invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy Whitney's flight to the bottom of the charts while Mariah soars back to the top. And, just to be sure, it's a non-smoking flight (or is it a crash?), so forget about taking a few hits off Whit's diamond-studded crackpipe (and no, that Oprah interview didn't mean shit. Girl is still abusing like a hooker in Section 8 housing with five bastard kids to feed).

Now, sit your ass down somewhere so I can get a good view of Mariah's stiletto heel as she steps back into the spotlight. Oh, but wait! She never did leave, did she? Not like.....well, we know how that story went, don't we?

Mmmmmmmhmm.

Chile, go steal Whisperiah's stripper stiletto heels, sell them - and go buy a clue.

You pointing out Whitney "recently becoming relevant again" only speaks volumes to HOW relevant she actually is. She was relevant in the 80s, relevant in the 90s, and now relevant again in the 2000s. Whitney's "relevancy" spans THREE decades, darling. Say what? Yup, better believe it. You mad? !oops! Number one albums in each of the three decades shes been active in. How much more "relevant" do you want it to get?

And success that is "standard" for Mariah, huh? You mean the type of success that Whitney Houston started in the first place, right? Whitney Houston first SET that "standard" of which you say is Mariah's. Maybe you should go educate yourself on who came first...who accomplished what...who was first and foremost breaking records and setting a "standard" to begin with -- the standard for which your girl is now following today. Along with every other female singer in the business. That, my friend, was Whitney Houston who started it. THE voice. THE diva. The head bitch in charge. She set those standards. First stepped in the game way back when and changed the whole game and how it was to be played.

No other female singer was selling records like Whitney Houston before SHE did it. No other female singer was breaking records like Whitney Houston was before SHE did it. No other female singer was making hits like Whitney Houston was when she first hit the scene. No other female singer was doing it. But she did it, did it, did it and did it again. SHE sets the standard. No matter what your silly deluded brain wants to have you believe. And you coming here to a gay forum to talk your nonsense isn't going to change what is already in the history books. What is already said and done. What is already known to all the big suits in charge within the industry. That Whitney Houston is (taking words from your lipsynching queen) "that chick", and was the FIRST chick to shut it down like she did.

Its Whitney, bitch. Recognize.

She's been running the game since she first popped up on the scene in the 80s, and right back running it again 20s years later. Relevant? You damn right. :gogirl:

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

SexyKev decided he was gonna get fresh with me, so I had to say what I had to say.

I know Mariah's voice is all but gone, but so is Whit's voice. Observe:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzI4QgOzpaU

LOL. Where do yall find these ridiculous lambs?

Observe what? A performance she gave after talking 3 hours straight for a sit-down interview? Whats to observe? Her voice was shot and gone that day.

Notice how he didn't post Whitney's LATEST live performance (on Oprah), for which she got highly praised for all over the country. And yes "LIVE" performance.... something your lipsynching queen knows very little about. Which is probably the biggest reason she gets little respect within the industry (or maybe her constant lipsynching is now tied with her always taking her clothes off and dressing like a hooker). How she gonna be the head bitch in charge and she can't even ever sing any of her songs completely live anymore? Girl boo. Your girl's respect is gone down the drain right along with that airy ass voice. GONE. !oops!

Whitney still sings Mariah under the stage on any given day. She performs live. Whisperiah whispers her way through a song and then leaves the belting and high notes to the prerecorded tracks.

ROTFL !oops!

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

Oh honey, it looks like you got to that crackpipe before I could warn you in time. And those weed-laced hotwings she snuck on the plane from her [STRIKE]retirement[/STRIKE] return/celebration party aren't helping you either, boo.

ALL your commentary basically tells me that Whit's a has-been who's been living in Mariah's shadow ever since the latter came onto the scene, so I don't know what you're trying to prove to me. The fact that you came onto a Mariah thread trying to bash ol' girl just tells me how insecure Whit fans like you really are. Never seen nothin like it in my life.

When Mariah goes number 1 (again), and SURPASSES the Beatles in #1 singles, and continues to dominate as the best-selling female artist in HISTORY, I'll invite you to lay in the bed you've so pompously and irresponsibly made.

Honey, if spreading your legs, marrying your boss Tommy and losing your dignity is what it takes to become "the best selling female artist", then Mariah can keep that. Whitney, with all her crackpipes and things, wouldn't even sink that low. Mariah Carey, all her BOUGHT hits and albums sales from which her ex-husband Tommy put the label's money into, and her studio-enhanced voice is all nothin but a joke.

Try again, girlfriend.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

well, about the voices both between Mimi and Whitney can't battle with their ages... so if their voices gone dry or something it's not a big thing because they're getting older... but I must admit if Mariah is getting boring...and also noted she needs maintenance for her look...come on Mimi, that's 90s curly hair is really ridiculous LOL

One thing though: "GETTING boring"? She hasn't ever been all that interesting to begin with, if you ask me. She's always been somewhat of a bore. On stage and off. !oops!

When is that hoe gonna get some real stage presence?
