Aretha's voice is not was it once was...the smoking messed up her voice as well. She can still sing that's for sure though.
Chaka, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight are still rocking! And Patti...well, Patti is Patti...at 66yo she still has IT...and her voice is recovering really well from a throat infection she's had that messed up her vocal chords.

I don't really know what went wrong with Mariah's voice...she's always said her voice can be really strong but it's also really fragile and delicate. I'm guessing lack of proper rest, stress, alcohol drinking (she loves her glass of champagne) and maybe training (Tommy Mottola was prolly a bastard but those were her best years vocally...she'd train and exercise those vocal muscles like no other...after the divorce her vocal ability declined drastically...maybe she got a little sloppy).
I just hope she keeps getting better and better...she's got a terrific gift to go to waste.

That's my point,I am a die hard Aretha fan. She is 67 yrs old,smoked for 40 yrs and still has a voice even if it is not what it use to be,she can still move with the spirit. Chaka,smoked and did drugs but is still going strong. Glady's Knight is still strong and Patti is ok,she over sings everything. Fantasia's voice if anybody noticed is sounding different now since she had the vocal chord surgery but I think she is singing to hard all the time. I pray she still has a voice when she gets to be 40.

I have never been a big Mariah fan but I feel bad for her because she should be in her vocal prime where everything is at her vocal disposal,the lows,the highs and every note in between...

Thanks for the Youtubes. These are vast improvement vocally over her TV performances in recent years. I just wish her current material was stronger. It's really too fluffy for an old guy like me.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Mariah Carey lived up to her sometimes loopy reputation at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards as she gave a long, rambling acceptance speech after being named Breakthrough Actress for her performance in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."

Carey, teetering in a skin-tight, black-beaded full-length Herve Leger gown, was escorted onto the stage Tuesday night, and at the podium, greeted her presenter and "Precious" director Lee Daniels with a little dance and a big hug.

Carey hesitated for a few seconds, looked to the ceiling, sighed and said, "Please forgive me, because I'm a little bit, um ..." An audience member finished the sentence for her with an obscenity, to which Carey replied, "Yeah!" adding a long, hearty laugh.

"Oooooooh, my goodness!" she bellowed.

For the next few minutes, Carey rambled on about first reading "Push," about meeting author Sapphire, and about meeting one of the night's other honorees, Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren, whom Daniels said turned down the "Precious" role.

In the midst of praising Daniels' work, Carey spontaneously burst into applause.

"Sorry," she told Daniels. "Sometimes I get a little ..." Carey then stopped cold to snap her fingers, then added "... you know, difficult." And then she giggled again.

Carey went on to share a story about how Daniels told her to play the part, he needed her to listen to him. She was trying to elaborate, and couldn't come up with the words. She motioned to her face and said, "What do you call it?" When Daniels said he told her to remove her makeup, she said, "You could take my makeup off and I don't look like that (expletive) from the thing," referring to her "Precious" character. "Oh, God," Daniels moaned, turning away from Carey.

A full minute before Carey and Daniels finally left the stage, the audience had begun to applaud them off. "I thank you all for all listening to my little spiel," Carey said, wearily, "and God bless you."

Seconds later, host Mary Hart did her best to bring the ceremony back to Earth. "Who says we don't have fun here?" Hart asked, with a huge smile. The evening's other winners included "Up in the Air" director Jason Reitman, "Up in the Air" actress Anna Kendrick, "Hurt Locker" actor Jeremy Renner and "Inglourious Basterds" director Quentin Tarantino. Mirren was honored with a Career Achievement Award.

Carey didn't return to the stage Tuesday night, but her presence was felt for the remainder of the night. Before handing out a music award to songwriter-producer T Bone Burnett, actor Sean Penn quipped, "Think anything's going to make YouTube tonight?"

Did anyone else see her on the Peoples Choice Awards tonight?? she was definately not normal there either. Shes sending innuendo about having public sex with her husband. lmfao

For some reason the media doesnt really seem to care about her. I dont know why it is but she has never really been the center of discussion or tabloid gossip...and shes a huge diva. They covered her odd voicemails and her TRL fiasco but that was a mere blip compared to coverage Whitney houston receives when she wasnt even putting out new material and wasnt even in the public eye. Carey just doesnt generate much public interest. it really speaks volumes if u ask me......

the Nick cannon marriage lasted about 2 days in the media coverage. Even Access hollywood asked her about Whitneys comeback when mariah was trying to promote her OWN album and movie. speaks volumes. Mariah has never been a media magnet or target. Its good and bad for her at the same time. im sure shed love some press when it comes to selling her album though....it not selling well at all and fell faster on the chart than an atomic bomb going off

lol i mentioned the TRL fiasco. But like i said that coverage she received for that was a mere blip compared to the coverage whit gets....positive coverage or negative...it speaks volumes to me how everytime whitney does something positive or negative it is always made into a big huge deal in the media and receives muuuuch more coverage when the media simply seems to not care much about mariah or making her the center of their discussion.

its embarrassing. she finally gets some kind recognition for her "acting" (if that what u want to call her 5 mins in da movie lol) and she decides to show up like this. that is a disgrace. A hot mess!! this is just something else that will haunt her forever.

hahaha...a little splash my ass. And G-lex, i wouldnt say the haters dont seem to care because the video is being duplicated and re-posted all over youtube by many many users with a motive to poke fun at her and its going viral real fast and i see its being discussed on alot of other forums i visit and most people are trashing and dissing her as usual and its being covered on local news stations and yahoo news posted it...so people care but im just saying in GENERAL she doesnt get as much coverage (positive or negative) as her peer......which speaks volumes to me as far as which diva has the bigger presence/impact....

I couldn't agree more! Mariah is currently singing songs that should be recorded by girls (Kristinia DeBarge, etc) not a 40 yr old woman. Lol

Mimi Did It Again


Mimi followed up her Asti-sponsored drunk speech at the Palm Springs Film Festival by giving a possibly booze-fueled (or good shit-fueled) speech at last night's People's Choice Awards. But Mimi's speech wasn't the best part of her act (neither was her pit cleavage or back souffle).

The best part was watching her take approximately 6 hours and 22 minutes to get to the stage. For a few seconds there I thought CBS had cut to the National Geographic Channel and we were all witnessing a butterfly desperately trying to wiggle its way out of a cocoon made of Spanx. A beautiful wreck.

And even though I think Mo'Nique should get a Lifetime Achievement Oscar for the way she dramatically threw down a plate of pigs feet in Precious, the Academy should really give the Best Supporting Actress award to Mimi's moustache instead. This is a speech the world's soul needs to see.

It was reported that MiMi seemed fine when she talked to the Press after the speech...She went back-stage & answered all the questions without any problems..

If she did "appear" to be out-of-it on stage it must have been an act..

This thread is skimpier than some of the outfits Mariah Carey has worn.

I may not be a big fan, but there really isn't much here. Just a smear campaign by Whitney Houston stan(s) Tauren79/Sexykev.

Yes she was a little tipsy and her handlers should have taken better care of her. Should have been a simple thread with a couple of fun remarks, a little laugh.

This incident has already been forgot except for the haters that want to keep it going to try and make their diva look better.

But Mariah has nothing on Whitney Houston when it comes to incidents like this. There are hours and hours on video of pathetic Whitney Houston strung out on drugs. Some as recent as 2009. That is truly sad and tragic.

Until Whitney Houston admits she's STILL an addict, she's responsible for her own downfall, she will NEVER begin to heal.
