Really? That? It's such an odd combination of styles. The black & white look, the classic diva pose (in classic diva clothes!) and the tasteful title to the right are cool - they look like a classic 60s soul/jazz/supper club album. But what's with the huge garish MARIAH in purple and violet splashed across the bottom? It looks like someone "tagged" it.

I'm a fan. Not as big of a fan as I used to be! I love the old school Mariah instead of the new Mimi.

My favorite songs are: Butterfly (my absolute favorite song of all time), Fly Like a Bird, Vision of Love, Anytime You Need a Friend, Can't Let Go, Always Be My Baby and the list goes on.

Mariah earning her 18th Number One this week!!

Mariah Carey is on pace to rack up her 18th No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart this coming week. “Touch My Body," the first single from her upcoming album was in at number 15 last week, but should get a major push when it is available for digital download beginning Monday.

With the number one ranking, Carey will be tied for second place with Elvis Presley for the most number ones in chart history. The Beatles hold on to the top spot with 20 No.1 singles. Carey's album, "E=MC2," the follow-up to her 2005 Grammy-winning smash "The Emancipation of Mimi," is due in U.S. stores on April 15.

Carey has already been named the best-selling female pop artist of the millennium at the 2000 World Music Awards. Prior to “Touch My Body,” she recorded the most number-one singles—seventeen—for a female solo artist in the United States, where, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, she is the third best-selling female recording artist, with five Grammy Awards to her credit.

Mariah says she does think about beating the Beatles record, but only because people bring it up so much. Island Def Jam's chairman is excited at the prospect of one of his artists breaking the record.

Good for her! Madonna is also Supposed to break a record this week also, 4 minutes is expected to jump into the top 10...breaking the record for most artists with a top ten hit....she previously shared the record with elvis at 36 top 10 hits....4 minutes will be her 37th!!

^^^I agree. I have Touch My Body on my IPOD, but it's just one of those songs that was catchy. It's not because it's a song that has great lyrical content or vocal expression. Anyway, my favorite Mariah songs are:

It's great that she's getting her 18th #1 here in the U.S., but the thing is, sure she can match or surpass Elvis and The Beatles in the record books, but I doubt she’ll receive much adoration and respect worldwide that Elvis and The Beatles had received in their day.

It’s been widely reported in London that she abruptly hung up on the BBC and because of what happened the media in the UK are still maintaining the idea that she’s a “diva” in the negative sense of the word.

How the masses think does matter, so just because she’s broken records that automatically doesn’t make her into a legend, people can think that she’s basically just a record holder, but no one should feel sorry for her about that, I don’t even think Mariah Carey herself would want anyone to feel sorry for her, I mean really, she’s wealthy beyond anyone’s means.

Mariah Carey's new CD "E=MC2" thead! [merged]

Okay, I have been posting on other Mariah threads & after previewing the songs I just have to ask. What songs do you guys think will be her biggest hit/worst/best single/or your favorite from E=MC2?

Now that I have heard the previews, I think this album will do much better than I thought. My favorites so far are "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" and "I'm That Chick". Even though I didn't like it on her commercial for M, I think "For the Record" will be good too. I heard that she references previous song titles of hers which is original. I think "Bye Bye" will do good for a single but I don't like how Stargate recycles that same beat. I'm even beginning to like "Migrate", which I didn't like when she performed it on SNL. She should fire the background singers for those "birdcall" sounds lol. The album version sounds way better, she shouldn't perform new songs live like that. "Love Story" was another song that stood out for me, it sounds like a classic Mariah/Dupri collabo.

I am partial to "Loving You Long Time" and "Cruise Control." "Bye Bye" seems to be like "Sunflowers for Alfred Roy" Part II- something about one of the lyrics being 'you never got to see me back at number one.' That shit seems pretty deep. I am really excited about the album- I think the previews on amazon are just the tip of the iceberg.
