I disagree. I think if she is going to keep releasing albums that she wants us to buy then she is going to have to prove that she can sing in them, who wants to buy a CD full of duff notes just because the artist used to be able to sing well?

That's not true. Look at Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Celine Dion. They all do nothing but lipsync and they still sell very well.

I was gonna include her, but I didn't want to upset all her queens. At least I can admit I like Britney but I don't find her vocally talented. lol.
They SHOULDN'T be able to sell well, but they do. Unfortunately for Mariah, she can't fall into that category because she had/has a lot of talent. How Celine gets away with it, I'll never know.

I like Jennifer Lopez, Brave is a good one and I remember an old one (well not really old) that used to be on the music channels quite a lot that I liked, can't remember the name though.

No, Mariah shouldn't go into that category, I agree. But she should at least know when her music is becoming stellar and something needs to change. Touch My Body was an awful piece of music, and I'm not just saying that because she knocked Leona Lewis off with Bleeding Love.

I LOVED Touch My Body, although it was better suited for The Emancipation of Mimi era. It sounded like it should have been on that album.
She should have kicked E=MC2 off with "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time."

I thought BRAVE was a terrible album, as was most of J.Lo. This Is Me...Then had some great tracks on it, but On The 6 (the debut) will always be her best album, in my opinion. I mean with songs like "If You Had My Love," "Waiting For Tonight," "Feelin' So Good," and "No Me Ames," that album was a pop masterpiece. And this is coming from someone who hates everything about Jennifer Lopez, except a few movies.

I didn't like Brave as an album, I just liked that one song... I liked I'm Real, I don't know what album it was from. But I thought This Is Me... Then was a good album. And her earlier stuff is quite iconic I think. I never really listened to music when I was younger but I remember those songs of hers.

But did you like the ALBUM VERSION, or the remix? I have a personal vendetta against the remix, though!

With the rate Telstra is going, you can apply that to Christina Aguilera, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston...theyre all phenomenal vocal talents. Granted, sometimes, they overdo it, but hell, if you've got the voice and know how to use it, then why not?
But with artists like Christina who use 5 notes per syllable in 4 different octaves, it gets a little old.
Vocal gymnastics should NEVER go out of fashion. It's just nowadays, everyone wants to immitate Aretha, Whitney, Mariah, Celine and they take it way above and beyond necessity.

I don't think I have ever heard the remix so it must be the album version...

and I like vocal gymnastics depending on the voice of the person in question. If it sounds strange or bad then I don't like it. But when Leona Lewis hits a high note her voice just fits and I love it.

You know, I like Leona Lewis. But there was one performance that was just atrocious. She sang Better In Time at the American Music Awards, and it was basically "look everyone, I can hit these notes repeatedly, listen to how high they are!" and it ruined the entire song. Instead of singing the song, she tried to hard to show off. It's like, WE KNOW YOU CAN SING. Same with my problem with Christina Aguilera. We know you can sing, so stop trying to show off.

I usually like Leona's live performances more than her CD counterparts and this was no exception. I liked the arrangement and how she sang "I'm gonna be OK" (mainly the OK bit." The high bits at the end were changing the song a bit too much though I have to agree and it didn't make it better.
My favourite song of hers is Here I Am anyway, oh and Run is great as well.

Add that to the fact that Mariah also has developed those vocal nodules, it's understandable why her voice has declined. But with a chaning of her voice, she needs to change her look, material, singing style etc.

Yma's great! Don't think I've ever heard anyone else with so much control over her vocals.
Even when she was in her 60's she still could reach some of those highs & lows.

I don't see why Mariah can't sing that good live anymore, she's not even that old yet...

I cannot say that I am a fan of Yma, but I have heard her work. She is incredible; it's amazing what she can do with her voice.

As far as Mariah, Marley has it right. In addition to the vocal nodules and the possibility that she drinks excessively at times, then the voice is not going to sound that great.
