Everyone has their own natural range and potential, but singing requires constant maintenance and muscle control. If you stop doing the right exercises, warm-ups etc for even a few days, your body'll "forget" how to sing, and you have to basically start all over again. I imagine it's even worse when you stop singing certain songs and using techniques for about 10 years, and suddenly try again.


The human voice is the fussiest, hardest to control instrument there is. No one can maintain perfect control over it for their entire life, and no one stays at their prime forever.

People can seem to be out-of-it and even drunk without being so. It's happened to me several times...I'm just in a super good mood and simply CANNOT stop laughing and doing crazy things...and people have told me I looked drunk and/or stoned when I wasn't. It's quite possible that she was just in really good mood and couldn't seem to contain herself...nothing wrong with that...if that is all, that is.

I just don't see how someone can take joy and almost wish on someone's pain and suffering. It baffles me...oh well...I should know better by now...I guess I really do expect too much from people these days...there's too much lack of humanity.

All I have to say is so what . This award show has a party vibe and she wasn't the only one tipsy. She deserved the award for breakout performance in precious. Yet she does need to get dresses that fit her. Mariah I love you but you arent' Marilyn Monroe give it up babe.

Mariah definitely lost the stability in her voice. She's sounding better in these videos compared to the painful live performances I've seen from 2005 to now.

The thing is, if they work under a very good vocal coach, practice > do their vocal exercises and stay healthy, they probably WOULD be able to sing like they used to. Whitney's been a heavy drinker and smoker, and those permanently damage the voice and lungs. I'm a little more worried about her than Mariah.

It doesn't matter who you are. . .if you get lazy, you won't be able to sing worth shit. Singing - especially like THEY do - isn't like riding a bike.

Hmmmmm.....I don't know if I agree with you here...Madonna was middle-aged when she recorded the Pop/House-Party-Jam "Music"...Carlos Santana was in his 60's when he recorded "Smooth"...Cher was 100 when she recorded that over-played single "Do you Believe in life after love".....Were any of those songs age appropriate Productions? Some say no but they were BIG hits...

We have to be careful when we say 40, 50 & 60yr olds should stick to "Oldy-Moldy-Tracks"....Regardless of your age you have to "change" with the times..Yes you can keep your "sound" age-appropriate but you you have to think about the time you're living in before you record anything...

Make no mistake about it, EVERY Artist of every age wants their music to be relevant.

The pendulum needs to swing back towards the Hero days. She has had her "rebellious" phase after divorcing Tommy Motolla, expressing her sexuality and all, but she has taken it way too far. She needs to work her on voice and tone down the sluttiness.

I'm afraid it was more than just alcohol she was downing before that speech. She seems at risk of sliding back into "exhaustion" again.

some people become bitter towards others when they do things that they (or their lovely idols) cannot get away with doing themselves, ie wh gets more media coverage than mc whenever she falls or stumbles because thats the most interesting thing about her while mc gets more media coverage whenever she rises above because the talent is what's most interesting about her. people would rather receive acknowledgment for their accomplishments not their stumbles. it's only the ones that can't get good exposure who say bad publicity is better than none. that's all.
