Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

I really hope the single continues to climb the charts and the album come in at #1 because I love to see veteran acts at the top of the charts years after their first hit!

Only if they are worthy and this certainly is!

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

She's always projected this cool, distant image but she seems so warm here. Like someone who would be really fun to spend time with.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

The entire cd has leaked. In Another Time might be my favorite.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

^ Cool. I like that one too.

Sade To Perform At 2010 ECHO Awards

Sade has confirmed a March 4 TV performance at Germany's ECHO Music Awards.

The R&B act, led by singer Sade Adu, will perform the title track of its new studio set "Soldier of Love" (RCA/Sony Music) in front of an expected audience of 3,500 at the ceremony, which takes place at the Berlin Fairground and will be broadcast live on German TV station ARD.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

I heard the record and unfortunately did not take to it. She made her best music in the 80s - early nineties. Sorry.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

Suave production? Check. Heart-piercing lyrics? Check. Sensual, husky-voiced singer? Check. Those are just some of the things Sade fans can expect from the group's new album, "Soldier of Love." The release is Sade's first new material in 10 years, but the act hasn't lost a beat. Over marching band drums and smeared electric guitar riffs on the title track, lead singer Sade Adu croons, "I've lost the use of my heart, but I'm still alive." And with the help of choppy violins and simple drums on the song "The Moon and the Sky," she declares her devotion to a former lover, singing, "You could let me love anyone, but I only wanted you." The heartfelt track "Morning Bird" is packed with strings, piano strokes and tambourine clatter, while "Babyfather" finds Adu commending a man's fatherly instincts. "Be That Easy" is reminiscent of a country love song, with guitars and whistles, and standout track "In Another Time" features saxophone and a stunning violin arrangement, proving that good music stands the test of time.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

"In Another Time" is still my favorite but I've only been listening to it for two weeks now.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

I've heard the album, and the songs I'm really loving so far (aside from SOL) are The Moon and the Sky and Morning Bird.

If you're not careful, the former of those two might make you cry.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

A Reluctant Return to the Spotlight

WHEN a man from a radio station asked Sade what she had been doing in the 10 years between albums, she told him, “I’ve been in a cave, and I just rolled the boulder out of it.”

She chuckled as she recounted the exchange, with her feet tucked up on the couch at her Georgian house in the north London neighborhood of Islington.

A January rain pelted the trees outside the window of the second-story drawing room, atop a graciously curving staircase. Sade, a slender figure in black pants and a black V-neck sweater, made things cozy, feeding kindling to a crackling fire in the hearth. An interview about her new album, “Soldier of Love” (Epic) — only her sixth studio album dating back to her 1984 debut, and due for release on Tuesday — stretched into a four-hour conversation.

“I’ve got absolutely no real perception, properly, of time,” said Sade, 51, who was born Helen Folasade Adu in Ibadan, Nigeria. Her father was a Nigerian university teacher of economics; her mother was an English nurse, and raised her in rural England after the couple divorced. Sade’s speaking voice is even lower than the husky alto in her songs, the elegantly subdued ballads that have sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.

Re: New Sade Album|Soldier of Love

lengthy but interesting article:

Sade is so very private, so extremely wary of the press that her friends - all of whom are bound to silence - have nicknamed her Howie, after Howard Hughes. The most reclusive British singer of the 1980s has kept such a low profile since her Smooth Operator days - one tour in 14 years - that, when we meet at the London office of her record label to hear the songs from her new album, Soldier of Love, I am the only person in the room who has met her before.

It’s 10 years since her last album release, the 2000 offering, Lovers Rock. Despite or maybe because of that, the reverence she commands is palpable. She is the most successful solo female artist Britain has ever produced: she has sold more than 50m albums in a career that stretches back 27 years. And more than half of those albums were sold from the mid-1990s onwards, when Sade all but disappeared from view. Since then, she has only surfaced a few times — and this is the only face-to-face interview she will consent to now.

Paradoxically, in person she is open, friendly and relaxed - she’s happy to let me into her spacious Georgian house in leafy north London - and willing to laugh at herself. Unlike her songs, which are often freighted with introspective sadness and regret, her conversation is punctuated with a lively and very English self-mockery. She tells me about a graffitied poster of herself that her guitarist Stuart Matthewman spotted in New York. Above her glamorous image, some wag had sprayed the observation: “This bitch sings when she wants to.” Sade thinks this hilarious. It sums up her career pretty well. She makes music on her own terms.

She tells me how, on seeing a poster for Lady Gaga’s album The Fame Monster recently, she wondered: “Why can’t I get so worked up about being famous?” She is a complicated, ambitious woman. “Artistically, I have high aspirations. I don’t want to do anything less than the best I can do,” she says. Yet she spurns the promotional rigmarole of the industry, despite knowing that it's hard to win the public’s sympathy if you ignore them.
