Whitney Houston Comeback CD Gets U.K. Debut Today

Whitney Houston's big comeback CD, "I Look to You," will be unveiled in Britain today to U.K. music journalists.

The album gets the same treatment next Tuesday in New York.

Clive Davis will be on hand today as everyone gets a listen to Whitney's first collection since cleaning up her act, shedding husband Bobby Brown, and getting off drugs.

Advance buzz is good, and a couple of the songs have already "leaked" enough that we know Houston could have a hit. The real proof will be in the Grammy Awards. The picture of Houston and Davis doing a victory lap on Jan. 31, 2010 is hard to resist.

More to come as word starts pouring in…

Clive Davis: 'You Won't Forget' Whitney Houston's New Album

Legendary Music Producer Says Houston's New Songs Highlight Her Strength

By MICHELLE MAJOR
July 14, 2009

nm_davis_houston_090713_mn.jpg

Whitney Houston is the most honored female artist of all time. She's the only artist ever to have seven consecutive multiplatinum albums, beating out even the Beatles. And now the man who has been with her from the start is talking about her comeback and sharing his memories of her extraordinary career.

Legendary music producer Clive Davis remembers Houston as that young girl who first gave us her remarkable sound, made famous in songs like "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Will Always Love You."

Just the name Whitney Houston brings to mind that voice: the musical range, the enormous range of emotion, and a kind of power that can make a perfect arrow out of just one note.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

This is the cover for Whit Whit's big comeback album and I hope she stamped it with a giant HELL TO THE NO when she saw it. The Photoshop fuckery aside, they couldn't find a picture with a better expression than this mess? Whit's giving me a cross between "My doody bubble got stuck" face and "You got another ciggie?" face.
Although, I do approve of her Beverly Hills Teens earrings. They got that right.

Whitney Houston Album Artwork Revealed

400_whouston_090715_arista.jpg

Whitney Houston is about to drop one of the most highly anticipated albums of the decade -- and ET has a first look at the cover right here!

Wearing an elegant one-shoulder sliver and white striped dress, the singer looks refreshed and beautiful as she stands solo on the cover of her first album of original material since 2002.

Earlier this year, Clive Davis told reporters to expect classic Whitney all the way. "We're not going to compromise who she is to fit into today's hip-hop radio market," he said. "The public wants Whitney material."

Songs for the album have been produced and written by Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am, songwriter Sean Garrett and R&B singer Akon.

Pandemonium At Whitney's London Listening Session

whitney-albumart500.jpg

According to a Press release from Whitney Houston's record label, sheer pandemonium broke out as the audience full of VIPs, press and tastemakers raved and danced in the aisle while listening to tracks from Whitney's new album titled, I Look To You!

The "Queen Of All Divas" was greeted by a standing ovation after Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment, Clive Davis presented select tracks from the album.

There will be two more listening sessions - in New York and L.A. next week - before Whitney's sixth studio album drops on September 1st. I guess I'll make my plane reservations right now!

Whitney Houston look to 'You'

By LIZ SMITH

FINALLY, AFTER heaven only knows how many years, Whitney Houston's new album, "I Look at You," arrives in September from Arista Records. This disc was slowly completed under the guidance of Whitney's discoverer/mentor, the legendary Clive Davis. Clive has never given up on Whitney, no matter the rumors whispered, the tabloids screamed and her own infamous reality show with ex-hubby Bobby Brown. So, on July 21, at the Allen Room of Jazz at Lincoln Center, the maestro Clive is putting on a cocktail reception and then an exclusive listening party. A select group will get to hear what Whitney can still deliver. I am betting this album goes over like gangbusters. I first interviewed Whitney when she was just a young girl, fresh and dewy and untouched by the vagaries of fortune. What a doll she was then. And the last time I saw Whitney perform was two years ago in Los Angeles at a tribute to Clive. She looked glorious and sounded even better. Everybody was screaming -- "Come back!" But then our Whitney sort of fell off the map again. Well, she is back now! She is really serious about re-activating one of the great musical careers of all time.

HOUSTON, WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM...

16th July 2009

WHITNEY Houston dusted herself down to record again after fans bom-barded her with requests to hear that famous voice one more time.

After a period of personal adversity, when the legendary diva battled addictions and saw her marriage to Bobby Brown, 40, break down, Whitney is looking and sounding better than ever.

Premiering tracks from her new album I Look To You at London’s decadent Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the 45-year-old was back to her best.

Clive Davis, chief creative officer of Sony Music Entertainment Worldwide, introduced each song from the album, which is still a work in progress.

He said: “You’re going to hear music recorded two or three days ago. This is the first time it has been heard by anyone outside the company. And we did not try to fit Whitney into today’s marketplace.”

Afterwards Whitney took to the stage to mass applause and a standing ovation from the VIP press crowd, including me.

Whitney revealed: “The day Clive called me I was going through adversity. He was like: ‘So are you ready?’

I said: ‘I’m ready to ride home, me and my daughter, have our strawberry food stand.’'

“It’s so kind of people wanting to hear me sing again.”

Whitney, whose hits include the classic I Will Always Love You, admitted 77-year-old Clive pulled her through the dark times to get back on track.

She said: “It was a labour of love for Clive and I – he took me through it. At one point he told me: ‘You’re impossible.’
I thought that was an honour.”

I predict live shows to follow the album, which will be released in September.

Posing with me for a snap, Whitney added: “I’m so glad you like the album.”

I won’t be the only one, lady.

MY WHITNEY VERDICT:

Million Dollar Bill: Written by Alicia Keys, this opens with trademark Whitney hollers then moves to a bass-heavy 70s vibe. “If he don’t make you feel like a million dollar bill say uh oh oh,” declares our gal. Too right. 4/5

Nutin’ But Love: Slammin’ synth-laden R&B with a Kanye-esque rap makes Whitney sound thoroughly Noughties but unlike anything else around. Potential huge club record. My choice for first single. 5/5

Call You Tonight: Produced by Stargate this is a safe mid-tempo R&B number planned to be the fi rst release. I’d like to see them be more adventurous. 3/5

I Didn’t Know My Own Strength: Strings? Check. Emotive lyrics? Check. Key change? Check. Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh would wrestle each other to nab this Diane Warren-penned power ballad for Leona/Westlife. 5/5

Like I Never Left: Writer and duet partner Akon infuses a Caribbean feel. Grab a daiquiri and soak in a sunshine vibe. 3/5

For The Lovers: Hotter than petrol chucked on an open flame, this is another banger that shows Whitney can rival Rihanna and all the young pretenders to her throne. 5/5

I Look To You: Who knew R Kelly could write a classy slowie without the need to make it saucy? 4/5

Worth It: Generic R&B fi ller. 2/5

A Song For You: A remake of The Carpenters’ tune with a Stargate sparkle that’ll send camp discos into a tizzy. 3/5

In London to unveil her new album at a VIP party Tuesday night, Whitney Houston – looking glam in a black and white Dolce & Gabbana gown – signaled she was back.

With her mentor, music mogul Clive Davis, playing nine tracks from her upcoming album to be released in September, Houston, 45, "looked radiant," a source at the party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel tells PEOPLE.

"She gave an amazing speech saying how much the album comes from the heart and telling of her love for Clive Davis," the source added. "She was also saying how much she loved being in London … and you could tell she was happy to be here."

The CD will be Houston's seventh studio album and represents a comeback after a seven-year hiatus that included some well-publicized troubles. As for the album, some of the songs were finished and others not, a source tells PEOPLE.

Thanking Davis, Houston told party guests, "When Clive called me I was pretty ready to buy my island home [and retire], but he said, 'No, you're going to sing again, people want to hear you,' " reports Billboard.com.

She added, "I hope that these songs stay with you for a lifetime." Davis assured the crowd that "you won't forget it after you hear it."

Among the tracks heard were the title song "I Look To You," by R. Kelly, and an Alicia Keys song, "One Million Dollar Bill." Also included was a Diane Warren-penned song, "I Don't Know My Own Strength," and a duet with Akon, "Like I Never Left."

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

Whitney you look good. Cleaned up real nice I listened to the song and it's a nice comeback ballad for her. I even heard bits of her signature whistliing so I know this can be a real sucessful comeback. Even though her voice isn't where it used to be Whitney can still outsing many singers today...I hope that track with Akon will make the final cut
