I was listening to the album for the first time at a record store today, and I must say it is surprisingly good. The whole project has a consistent groove and a good feel. The vocal acrobatics of yesteryear are not present, but it's an enjoyable album nonetheless. I predict it will be a big hit and her live vocals will probably improve once she starts touring again. After seven years idle, she's a bit out of practice. Peoople forget that during the height of her addition she was putting out SMOKING hot performances such as: It's Not Right, But It's Okay, Heatbreak Hotel, and My Love is Your Love. She just needs to continue working, the voice will regather steam.

due to inclement weather i spent several hours this weekend doing some reading at a borders bookstore cafe. unfortunately i forgot my headphones and was forced to listen to the in-store selection.
i feel sympathy with people with substance abuse and family issues. however that does not let them off the hook for releasing subpar material as this. out of curiosity i also watched the gma video. it was painful to watch.
i think whitney is a beautiful woman and has an amazing voice. as i look back on her recording career i feel she's always been given material beneath her abilities. not too mention ill fitting wigs and unflattering wardrobe.
as far as the oprah interview goes, i see that as nothing but marketing for both.
as far as this release coming in at #1. did that really surprise anyone. it will be very short-lived. i'm sure the oprah interview will give it a small boast. (check under your seat for the new whitney cd,) as i write this it's #8 on itunes. let's see what the beatles onslaught does to this. and what most certainly must be embarrassing is the rankings at amazon. at number #1 is a pre-order by an unproven talent show contestant who's release is almost 3 months away.
if this release receives any grammy nominations it will most certainly prove their irrelevancy.

Whitney Houston made like it was the '80s all over again by scoring the top album in the land.
Her long-awaited return, "I Look To You," shot to the top of the Canadian charts selling 10,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.
It's easily Houston's best opening totals since Neilsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1996. Her last album, 2002's "Just Whitney," debuted at No. 85 with just 3,000 in sales.
She also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 305,000 copies in the U.S.
Back in Canada, the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)" was relegated to the No. 2 spot with 7,000 in sales, followed by the premiere of Pitbull's "Rebelation" (6,000) at No. 3, and Vincent Vallieres' "Le Monde Tourne Fort" at No. 4.
Kings of Leon's "Only By the Night" slipped two positions to No. 5, David Guetta's "One Love" came down four to No. 6, while Taylor Swift's "Fearless" moved up from No. 10 to No. 7.
Rounding out the top 10 was Billy Talent's "Billy Talent III" at No. 8, Lady GaGa's "The Fame" at No. 9, and The Used's "Artwork" at No. 10.
