Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

You and that hater-probably-a-lamb-himself journalist can try to downplay the AMOUNT of what she sold the first week all you want, but the bottomline is that she was #1 and is still hanging in the top 5 on the Billboard chart FIVE weeks after the release. AND still at the top of the charts on Amazon, Walmart, Target, Barnes & Noble, ect. The album is already GOLD here and moving towards PLATINUM status.

now the pot is calling the kettle black!

Chart positions are just comparisons to whoever is out at the time. Don't you think it's possible that weak sales could still debut an album at #1 if there isn't any competition?

lol of course its possible. But Whitney went up against MILEY CYRUS the week she released her album. And Miley is a BIG SELLER these days. Crazy popular with the teen/kid crowd and they and their moms run out and buy her albums in droves. Stiff competition and yet Whitney still trumped Miley bigtime and got to #1 over her. :=D:

Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

...you just compared two completely different demographics to one another...losing all credibility.

Hardly.

Doesn't matter if its two completely different demographics. The point here is SALES and NUMBERS. And its a fact that Miley is a HUGE seller and moves units bigtime, and has outsold LOTS of older, more established artists before even with their "completely different demographics."

Retard. :rotflmao: !oops!

Well I guess thats good for her. It would have made me sick to see Miley outsell real talent. But if you look at sales instead of chart positions, Whitney's comeback sold about 305,000 in the first week. Compare that to mariah's comeback album that sold about 404,000 in first week sales (her largest first week) and her last album even topped that.

lol it would have made me sick too. And some artists sell huge numbers their first week but then drop down fast. Thats because the bulk of their fanbase rush out and get the album the first week its released causing them to have big numbers but then they end up dropping down the chart the weeks to follow because most of their core fanbase have already went out and purchased it the first week which gives them huge debuts but not great follow-up sales in the weeks to follow.

And with all of Whitney's huge success, she has never been much of a HUGE first week seller with her core fanbase. But her albums always have LEGS and carry on at the top of charts consistently for weeks and weeks (like this new one is doing), and her albums always continue to sell well throughout the months/year after they are released.

Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

Miley hasn't had an actual album out since last year - and a soundtrack this year which came out in June. She released an EP, not an LP, this August. You are a tool to think that's even relative, and come off as a crazed fanboy of Whitney Houston's.

If you say so, champ. ..| You can call me "crazed" all you like -- I couldn't care any less. OK, I'll be that. Crazed fanboy #1. But the fact is Whitney was #1 in this country and many others and her album is staying consistent in sales and still selling well five weeks after its release.

Yay. (!)

Yes her albums have legs, remember My love is your love? It debuted at 13 while i think Mariah's numer ones and Puff Daddy and a lot of other people debuted higher. A year and a half later John Norris of MTV asked Whitney if she was dissapointed. She said no cause i'm still on the charts while al these others have flown out as fast as they came in. Whitney has staying power!

Yup! I remember that. Whitney has staying power. Her albums always have legs and continue to sell well for a long time after they're released. So debuting with high numbers isn't too important when you end up falling off rather fast. The more important thing is sticking around on the charts and continuing to sell well. ..|

From the Los Angeles Times...

On the charts: Pearl Jam's Target adventure, Phoenix rising and Whitney's steady

September 30, 2009 | 1:12 pm

Diva tales: It's another solid week for Whitney Houston. Her "I Look to You" is at No. 4 this week, selling 66,000 copies. That's a dip from last week, when she sold 156,000 copies -- a post-"Oprah" sales bump -- but brings her total to 620,000 copies sold to date. That's good news for Houston as the industry heads into the holiday season. With depressed sales making it relatively easy for a brand-name artist to stay in the top 20, Houston should be on target to rack up a bevy of Grammy nominations if she can maintain a consistent sales base.

Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

Houston, We Do Not Have a Problem

By Josef Adalian
Published: September 29, 2009

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" is defying gravity.

With big boosts from Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, TV's top talk show kicked off its 24th season with premiere week ratings up a stunning 30 percent vs. last year, and its best overall launch week ratings in three years.

What's more, "Oprah" began the season as the No. 1 show in all of syndication (not just talkers), beating out bitter rivals "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" for the top spot. (OK, there's no evidence of bitterness between Oprah, Pat and Alex, but it sounds better this way, don't you think?)

According to final national numbers, "Oprah" notched a 6.1 household rating vs. a 4.7 rating last season. Part two of Winfrey's conversation with Houston averaged a 7.4 HH rating and gave The Op her biggest episode in two years (since the 2007 Oprah's Favorite Things screamfest).

Winfrey also scored with an episode in which she introduced clips of her 1993 primetime interview with Jackson. It averaged a 6.2 rating.

Perhaps this will knock down the "Oprah is falling!" meme that's been floating around the media since last year, when the Los Angeles Times make a weak case that Winfrey's support for Barack Obama was causing her to bleed viewers. More recently, one media outlet interpreted a seven percent decline in Winfrey's seasonal numbers as a sign that Winfrey had lost her touch -- as opposed to, say, a sign that just about everything in TV is down these days.

Moving on: It was also a good week for the Oprah-created Dr. Oz. His new syndie talk show premiered with a 2.3 HH rating, tying "Live with Regis and Kelly" for the No. 8 slot in all of syndication.

Since any new syndicated series with a rating above a 1 these days is consider a blockbuster, we're going to assume Dr. Oz distributor Sony Pictures Television is happy with the numbers.

We're assuming because so far, the studio hasn't sent one bit of ratings info to us about the show. (Guess they're taking the low-key approach over at Camp Oz).

In any case, the aforementioned game show axis of evil, "Wheel" and "Jeopardy," ranked No. 2 and No. 3 for the first week of the new season, followed by "Entertainment Tonight" and "Judge Judy."

Whitney Houston: Likely to Win Battle Of The Divas

whoustonilooktoyou(1).jpg

'I Look to You' is lookin' good!

Who would have thought that Whitney Houston, without a hit single, would be able to win the battle of the divas this fall season. But the possibility looks very likely.

Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel has received some very bad reviews. She desperately deep discounted the album to $5.99 at Amazon. "I Want To Know What Love Is," her empty second single, isn't taking off. The album may have a chance to debut on top, but will likely drop sooner that one can say the word "Glitter."

Madonna's Celebration will likely be a long-term seller, but with it's steep price, lack of promotion, and the fact that most fans already own the songs on the album, it's not likely to be a huge instant seller. At least Madge can claim the number one album in the U.K.

Barbra Streisand seems to be the only competition for Whitney Houston. Currently, Love is the Answer is both number 2 and number 4 at Amazon.com. However, Streisand's albums usually don't last at the top very long.

Whitney Houston's I Look to You has been a strong seller for four weeks. It will likely still be in the top 5 on Billboard's album chart this coming week. Whitney Houston may not have the voice she used to, however, unlike Mariah, she doesn't put on fake ghetto accents, wear clothes that even a mouse couldn't fit into and write songs that an eight-year old would be ashamed of. Congratulations, Whitney Houston!

Whitney DESTROYED all three of these ladies!!!! (!):gogirl:

Whit's album came in at #1 with over 300,000. She STILL holds the record for the biggest selling album by a FEMALE this year!

Where's the lambs who was saying they can't wait for Mariah's album to come out so she could make it to #1 and destroy Whitney's numbers????? Sorry, but y'all must feel real stupid and embarrassed now. Whitney TRUMPED Mariah, Madonna, Paramore, Miley Cyrus, AND Barbara Streisand. !oops!!oops!!oops!
