long story short, a few years ago:

women and minorities: do better, golden globes

GG: ok, we will

*a few years later

women and minorities: how's that coming along?

GG: we hired a black janitor and promoted a woman to lead usher

women:.....

minorities:.....

all the cable networks:......

so where are we today? the oscars are going to be livestreamed because no network wants to touch them. livestreamed? G.H.E.T.T.O. i can literally already smell the technical difficulties. if i understand correctly, there's gonna be no host, no media, honestly i think the whole event is just gonna be Ryan Seacrest riding around Calabasas in a 2010 lincoln towncar tossing the trophies onto the winners' lawns, here and there we might see a shadowy figure wave from behind the blinds that may or may not be a celebrity. if we're lucky one of the more attractive winners in a male category might be outside fetching his newspaper in a short robe and a well-timed gust of wind could give us our first celeb penis visual of 2022. here's hoping... :gogirl:

sure, you can attribute the scaling down of the show to covid as well, but nobody's even denying that this was largely impacted by a complete failure to make the award show less straight white male-y. and if yall don't know anything else about me, you know my favorite kink is racist institutions suffering consequences for failing to move into the 21st century with everybody else whose psyches don't crumble at the mention of the word "diversification." the idea that sharing just crumbs of your entire pie with the disenfranchised somehow diminishes your portion has really lost traction so time's up, check's on the table and anyone who isn't prepared to yank that credit card out their wallet better roll up their sleeves and start washing dishes cuz "we're just not gonna pay" is no longer tolerated.

Phony people giving phony awards to even phonier people.

I would love to go see West Side Story in the theatre, but I'm scared of Covid.

it's been decades since I've watched any of the award shows

kinda boring for me...like watching 4-5 hours of a pro sports game

^^^same - haven't watched since maybe the 1980s - rarely know who the celebrities or singers are and I don't care to know.

I also have to admit it is uncomfortable to watch -even back then. I get a little embarrassed on their behalf.

Most movies don't hold my interest enough to finish them.

I use to love award shows until I read that the entertainment industry has about 550 award events a year or about one and a half event per day. I think they just like patting themselves on the back.

I only really care about the Tony's and that is because I like to hear the songs.

Since so few movies appear in theatres now over the last two years, the bigness is gone...there really isn't much to distinguish the Oscars from the Emmys and the day of the red carpet may finally be past.

I usually just scan the list of winners the day after.

by and large yes, but some brilliant performances have been rightfully awarded here and there. the rainbow gang is finally started to get recognition for our contribution to the arts. :gogirl:

Gonna be honest, the part I boldened kinda made my dick hard. Yeah aware shows are kinda falling by the wayside and I can't say I'm gonna miss em terribly cuz it took way too long for them to start including everybody in their club. I used to watch the grammys for the performances then youtube came along now i can catch em the next day online without having to sit through 4 hours of Taylor Swift being crowned queen of everything.

I'd actually like to see an award show with sports fans in the audience. The drunken fights over who did or didn't win would be pretty fukkin awesome. I can't stand sports or award shows but somehow I like the idea of merging the two worlds.

Phony people giving awards to other phony people for pictures no one has seen or would ever want to see.

we're working on changing that, the art form is legit we just need a system of recognition that's more all-encompassing. technically the same could be said about every title or award of esteem in america. the pulitzer, the nobel prize, all mostly a cis-white-guys-praising-cis-white-guys fest until very recently.

I don't usually watch awards shows. They are too long. I might skim the news the next day.

I have zero interest in any of the award shows. To each their own.
