I've also never before heard it suggested that Charles avoids shaking black hands. Is that documented anywhere?

That's not strictly true. Edward VII, George V and George VI had an image of a crown above their head, but we're not actually wearing it. This is an example:

Have any of you noticed how much like his late17th and 18th century Hanoverian ancestors Charles looks in comparison to his 20th century predecessors? I think the similarity to George II and George III is striking.

Here in New Zealand, I can't say I've ever heard any suggestion that the royal family are racist, apart from maybe the late Prince Philip. But the Queen, King Charles or William.
