The Queen is Dead. Long live the King.

I also have a soft spot for the heisting of the coronation stone....good times.

BTW...what are those horrible chairs they are all sitting in. Looks like something from someone's lounge.

I am sure that Kate is smiley because she didn't have to wear that stupid big hat and feather....but her day in the big girl chair can't be too far off.

I'm sure she is likely aware that as much as she is loathed everywhere...many Scots have a real republican distaste for her and Charles.

Britain would decisively back the monarchy if a referendum were held tomorrow, a major poll reveals ... England, Scotland and Wales would vote to keep the monarchy in a vote tomorrow – but Northern Ireland would favour a republic by 46 per cent to 42

CRIII dining at Louis XIV hall of mirrors,
"Macaron" obviously has fun since he has a crush on old ladys...
;)

Looks like a mob scene. Not particularly pleasant.

Having a hard time understanding why Macron orchestrated the visit the way he did: not simply the dinner in the Hall of Mirrors, but the dozens of horse-mounted officers in their flashy Second Empire get-up providing an escort for Charles and Camilla's limousine progress through the city to the Arc de Triomphe? It's not as if C + C provide anything of substance to the post-Brexit relationship between the two nations. What political advantage accrues to M. Macron by hosting a dinner for hundreds at Versailles featuring billionaires and celebrities? Was it to simply show that he could do it? That he could pull out all the stops at the same time as he showed himself to be a more glamorous, more potent, personality than the elderly and avuncular English king? But how does this play in an economically stressed nation with a restive population?

I think you nailed it.

He showed up the dullards from the Haus of Battenburg beautifully.

And that he is still handsome. And relevant in Europe.

I imagine that having his face on a coin will be Charles's biggest achievement in history.

My eye was caught by this though....

New banknotes featuring the image of King Charles are being printed in their millions but will not enter circulation until the middle of next year - some months after the coins.
New notes will replace damaged or worn older ones, but their introduction is slow because machines such as self-service tills need to recognise the new image.

All the machines will be

Wait. What?

When I said " I wish I had a bit of that Charlie's money"
I meant that I could do with a little of the millions in tax free handouts that he gets from those who actualy work for a living.
Not that I wanted my parking meter change to have his mugshot on them.

Free handouts? The King surrenders the income from the Crown Estate to the government and the government then returns a percentage of that income (the "Sovereign Grant") to the King to fund his official duties and those of his family. Currently the percentage is 25%.

And he has to show up at everything from grand diplomatic occasions to ribbon cuttings for buildings while being careful not to express too many opinions and knowing that the media is watching carefully for any little gaffe or slip-up they can make hay of.

Not to mention having every twist and turn and nuance in his complicated relationship with his sons become worldwide media fodder.

Sure doesn't sound like an easy job to me.

He must be exhausted. Knowing he has no real functional purpose in the life of Great Britain these days...or relevance in the world.

And William is apparently going to be right out of the mold.

Bland. Uninteresting. Contributing nothing but dull gloss on ceremonial events... even with this education in art history.

After enduring that, being on hold for an insurance helpline will seem as exciting as a night with Pierre Fitch

One understands that it made one yearn to just watch paint dry instead.
