People need this guide before they can decide to start being insensitive. They need to know what the letters actually stand for in the community they’ve been a part of for decades before they can start pissing people off effectively.

Anyway, I’m gonna stick with “Gay BLT.” Or if it’s essential for me to say something else to make sure my point is understood, I would go with “gender and sexual minorities.” Iiiiiii’m...not learning that particular recipe for alphabet soup, though I do appreciate the full inventory of adjectives people use to describe themselves as now being part of this community. Well, not really “full inventory.” That list omits “two spirited” which I hear all the time now. Anyway. Gay BLT! You’ll love it on rye, and it’s feasible to remember.

I wonder why Transgenders and Intersex people are included when those arent even sexual orientations/attractions.

On top of that, many gays have little respect for transpeople and vice versa. Many of the transpeople that I know say that gays are the FIRST people to misgender, "clock" and disrespect them...and as shady as most gays can be, I believe it! Many transpeople want nothing to do with gays for not only the reasons mentioned above but also since most want to assimilate with the mainstream cisgender population thus distancing themselves from the so-called gay world.

But Transgender is included because of shared history. The Stonewall Riots were initiated by a transgender woman who threw the first stone. I believe the wider society viewed transgender people as a subset of gay and lesbian. They faced similar discrimination and created similar spaces for reprieval. So part of it was shared goals but another facet was shared safety and the relationships that developed in those spaces.

Although I don't agree with him, I can see where he's coming from. White gay America has not once made any large-scale attempts to align itself with black America but whenever it's convenient will use the civil rights era to draw parallels to their inequality, likening civil unions to segregated drinking fountains, using the plight of people they frankly don't give a fuck about to make a point about their own quest for justice.

Because he has had his ass handed to him over and over so every thread becomes an opportunity to misinterpret in order to attack.

As usual the actual point has flown about 1000 metres over his head and he's trying to derail with an off topic argument.

It is also specious logic to assume that every group who wants to add an initial to LGT is an ally of the homos or the trans community. We see that even on JUB where the anti-trans voices are always squawking in Hot Topics.

If it was just about creating a grab bag of 'alliances' we might as well also include Cis Hets, because a lot of them are allies too. But that isn't what community identification is all about.

And once we are saddled with 'Aromantics'.....the collective alphabet is meaningless. We might as well add F for Furries.

If transpeople distanced themselves from the gay community then they would probably have been better off. The reason why is because the average person literally just views a transwomen as a gay dude with a wig on; that's because they're heavily associated with the gay community.

We used to be fine with GLB. Then the feminists thought that L had to go first otherwise it was G Privilege. See, if L goes first, that’s totally neutral because everyone knows “Ladies first” is not sexist at all, but if the G’s were the first ones out of the closet and happened to put the G first, that’s double plus ungood patriarchy and they womyn are being oppressed.
