Take Christianity which is mainstream and surely they don't preach tolerance of the gay people.

I disagree.... it is very church dependant.

Anyway, on the topic, I haven't been in that forum a whole lot. The few times I have been in there, I've found some great conversations that stimulated interesting debate. And for the most part, posters were mature in the manner in which they debated. I think it is a good forum to have as there are many gays that have difficulty reconciling their spirituality/religion with their homo/bisexuality. And having it in the no flame zone is imperative for this. If it is viewed as more of a "my religion is better than yours because..." that's when I think it becomes more of a flame zone just by the nature of the arguement. I've seen it used for the former... but maybe it's because those are the posts I gravitate towards.

Some of us, like yourself, Andreus, need to remember that there are also great varieties of educational experiences potentially involved.

That said, there is no reason why there can't be a strict application of a 'No-ad hominem flames rule.' Additionally, people should limit their 'reactions' to very brief objections, identified as such, without profanities, and then turn their attention to understanding the other viewpoint.

A good general rule might be "respect the thread-author's point-of-view.' That way if thread-author is "counter-cultural" in feeling and thought they, as thread-author have that right to explain their point-of-view, and be respected as such. A good general point: Practice sketching your thoughts before posting them. R & S is, shall we say, about "serious matters"?

Please don't take the religion forum away-- Where else can I go to vent about right-wing Christians?

CP&E,of course,like most everyone else....and occasionally Hot Topics.

Religion forum is a good idea. And indeed, we need to learn respect for someone else's opinion. But the problem is that the one who needs to learn this the most, Andreus, is not aware of it.
Wanting to close Religion forum because people don't think Muhammad was a prophet... isn't that a bit childish?

there are flamy posts at forum, like this one:

Religion has nothing to do with spirituality. Religion only is plain aggressivness: you believe in my god or I kill you.

but somehow posts like these do not trouble moderator.
Nor personal attacks, also by Andreus.

I, on the other hand, got an infraction for saying Muhammad was illiterate, by which I was repeating his own words and what every muslim knows...
It seems moderator wanted to punish me, because Andreus keeps complaining he's being bashed, but could not find a reason, so he's chosen this. Pathethic.
