My favourite bit of schadenfreude is seeing a post here announcing the death of a hubris-filled voluntarily unvaxxed loon propagandist, and his picture...

Less schadenfreude and more anger and frustration.

There's several forums and message boards where healthcare workers are going to vent and post their frustration. No one is deriving any pleasure from what is going on. More than anything they're tired.

Normally, in an ICU a nurse cares for 1 or 2 patients. A respiratory therapist can care for 4-8 ventilator patients. These COVID-19 patients can require 2 nurses per patient when there's ECMO and other advanced interventions. The staffing for RTs is similarly affected.

Even in a critical care area, a nurse typically has 1-2 patients per year who die while under their care- it's rare. With COVID-19, these nurses are having patients dying daily.

A nurse recently shared a social media post from a family who had a patient in the ICU on ECMO. ECMO is machine that removes blood, oxygenates it and returns it to the patient. ECMO is used when a patient's lungs are no longer functioning. The family was asking for blood donors for directed donation (where the person donates for a specific patient's needs) because they don't want their family member to get blood from a vaccinated person. It's bad enough to be taking care of patients who are so ill and dying at such young ages. It's another thing to be dealing with families who are just nutcases.

A phrase that healthcare workers are sick of? "Do you own research". This is a phrase typically used by someone who had one class of biology in high school that they maybe got a passing grade in. People who do research usually have PhD or MD after their name. Reading shit on Facebook is not research.

Where are all those people from the 80s and 90s who were convinced that it wasn't the HIV virus that caused them to get sick... so they didn't need to use condoms or take anti-retrovirals since AIDS wasn't caused by the HIV virus?

This isn't Calvinistic Christian "reep what you sew". It's "deny the science" and "post a bunch of lies and memes to show your arrogance".

These people who were posting this anti-vax and anti-mask and anti-Fauci stuff weren't just causing their own deaths. They were also encouraging their social media connections to risk their lives, too. At least until karma caught up with them.

The concern about conspiracies is utterly legitimate. It just seems they picked the wrong one. And, of course, for our governments to screw us over. It doesn't have to be the vaccine itself that is dodgy. The endless struggle for power always continues...

There are a number of factors as to why some particular people fell down these rabbit holes. A few are just cooks, and easily fooled. However the vast majority have been spoon fed a diet of outrage and grievance over the past 40 years that is scientifically designed to push certain emotional buttons in certain people. It also doesn't help that there is also a closed Eco-system that has been polluting these peoples minds for the last 18 months. From Facebook to YouTube, talk radio to conservative TV, they have all been totally irresponsible and cost tens of thousands of needless deaths. It started with the "it's not that big a deal, just the flu" talk to "we have to open up our country again" Then it morphed into " I don't want to wear a mask" and then to " My body my choice"and on and on and on. Now it's "fight the vaccine mandates" Killing off your own voters isn't a good strategy. Especially if they are dying to own the libs of worse for great ratings! It's especially horrible when it is noted that every last one of them is fully vaccinated by company mandate. Keeping them pissed off and scared it good for the coffers though. Lots of send me money so we can fight e-mails get blasted out every day by the millions.

Then of course there were the grifters and hustlers who were pushing quack cures, and junk medicines. Like harmless things such as taking vitamin C, and D To much more dangerous ones like ingesting bleach, and drinking peroxide! People got sick and a few even died, but the company's have made millions off of the marks over the course of the pandemic. Doesn't matter to them is any of their customers get killed in the process.

The worst of them all were the people in the government who knew this was going to be bad and did everything in their power to make it much much worse. From the idiotic "it's only going to hit the blue states and city's" mainframe at the beginning of all of this; to politicizing the wearing of marks, and the vaccines themselves.The data shows that it's not the blue urban and suburban areas of the country that are hurting the worst now. It's the red rural areas that are being decimated by Covid, just like the "experts" said would happen last spring.

Most of them were feverently religious so it's safe to assume that a percentage of them were closeted. Extremely closeted as in locked in an iron vault in the back of the closet.

It's not just about exposure. It's also about fighting disinformation. It's one of the reasons I hunt to find obituaries that are consistent with the timeline of the social media posts.

There's probably people who still think that COVID-19 isn't real, the masks don't work, that vaccines are the mark of the devil, et al.

It would appear that their numbers are thinning, though.

Too bad many of them are leaving children behind who will have a disadvantage- financially and emotionally- for years to come.

they deserve all the opprobrium and contempt they encounter online or in person for their reckless and redneck attitudes. They're as much a danger to others as themselves. IF ONLY it wasn't very contagious and ONLY infected these scum, many traveling LONG DISTANCES as a CARRIER and infecting lots of other people on their journeys.

And don't get me started with the You Tube & Instagram influencers that held large parties, went in public without masks, like Nikita Dragun, etc. Those VERMIN got let off!

Right on. As well as not having preventative procedures. I can't have a colonoscopy because of a nurse shortage. My sister died of it and and I am at risk of getting it. I am suppose to have it every 5 years. I am 18 months overdue. These selfish people are clogging up the health care system.
