I don't have a car and I can't drive. 
But if I did I would much rather go to a drive-in than sit in a crowded theatre with people coughing covid-19 at me from all directions.

Do they make the Amish park in the back row? Those buggies are tall, aren't they?
Do you think they will be able to open this year, or would that be considered unnecessary travel? Seems like it would calm the unsettled masses a bit - just having the option available, even.

Seems like governments will have to allow some forms of entertainment.
I wonder if car passes could be purchased online to keep the gate keeper safe?
There should be plenty of room for people to practice social distancing for concession stands.

Temporary setups should be possible. Surely there are [currently] unused carparks available. Screens could be attached to unused buildings.

I remember them well from my childhood. The increased amount of R rated movies hurt them, and in my area, storms repeatedly damaged the screen, causing it to eventually close.
Today, I think the dependence on air conditioning would hamper sales to some degree, and people have become paranoid about mosquito bites since the advent of West Nile Virus and others. That makes it a weaker choice in summer than the other three seasons.
I think they could make a good comeback even here in the South, but not in the heat of summer. It stays hot until after 10 p.m. and can be forbiddingly humid. Since the beginning, people have gone to indoor theaters expressly for the air conditioning.

We have one locally with alot of screens that has been open since I was a little kid and it has remained open UNTIL the coronavirus and now it is closed until the shelter at home is lifted.
It sure would be awesome to see drive-ins make a comeback. Startup financing would have to available and generous to jumpstart a venue on it's knees.

here in Lauderdale we have a HUGE venue called the Swap Shop - it has been proclaimed as the largest indoor/outdoor flea market in THE WORLD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Lauderdale_Swap_Shop -
it includes 14 Drive-In Movie Screens - on 88 acres of land!. It’s anchored by a 180,000-square-foot building housing everything from shops to an international food court. It has it's own Ferrari Museum.... It draws in over 12 million customers a year and on the weekend it draws in THOUSAND UPON THOUSANDS of outside vendors which doesn't include the permanent vendors that are there daily....
