The road to the Liberal Nanny State.

Where does the entitlement mentality come from? Government has to provide this or that for everyone? Governments don't have anything, they have to take it away from others to give anything to someone. So if everyone is entitled to the fruits of someone else's labor, why should anyone work? Where's my check? I feel I deserve money from someone else who is rich, I voted for a lot of politicians who promise to forcibly take from others and give it to me, where's my check? Where does it end?

People are tired of this crap.

Non sequitur: believing that some basics should be provided to everyone isn't the same as having everything handed to them.

And I'm glad someone brought up abortion. Many on the left are ok with killing innocent life. Many on the right are ok with executing demonstrably evil life. There's a distinction there, between innocent and evil life. I don't know exactly when life begins, but I am against the killing and vacuuming out of the most innocent forms of life from a womb, unless the mother's life is in grave danger. Don't bring up the tired old arguments about rape and incest, those are rare circumstances. That's a typical left wing trick to cloud the issue.
Now, isn't this one of the most controversial topics ever?? Are the lefties jumping up and down after reading this??

Far too many on the Right are so in love with a police state that they don't care how many innocent people get punished, even killed, so longer as they get a bunch of guilty ones.

Here's a very conservative adage from the time of the American Revolution, that the Right needs to pick up and take to heart:

Better a hundred guilty walk free than one innocent be punished.

Actually it's not a tired old argument: the Tea Party ran candidates who would not allow abortion even in those cases.

Rational pro-life folks should find a way to stuff them back in the womb and try again.

My asshole is nice and tight, but thanks for caring. Reckon I am bit buzzed right now, but I do agree with your points. I was just simply stating both parties' stances on 'life' and how absurd both are.

NO they are not absurd. Because both sides would have to agree that life begins at conception. Some conservatives believe life begins before conception, some believe its after, some believe other crazy stuff like curb-stomping move-on.org demonstrators. So lets not paint all democrats and all republicans in the same way.

So i hate to brake it to you right wingers, but the supreme court has ruled, and you lost.

I have never understood why a man would think he knows what is best for a woman. Abortion should be between the woman her doctor and I DO believe the father should have a say in it too. The father is the only man who has a say in it, and I would think most men have run off never to be seen again by the woman.

Police state? You mean all the complaints on here about intrusive searches of airline passengers are from the left?? And no one picked up on the distinction made between innocent and evil life. All anyone seems to be concerned about is a woman's convenience to screw with abandon, and kill the life thus created because it's inconvenient. Hello, it's been known for quite a while now that women tend to get pregnant after unprotected sex, which is why the more RESPONSIBLE (oh no, there's THAT word again) women will use contraception.

And, no, unless someone is severely handicapped, I don't think services shouldn't be "provided", because the "providER" is FORCED to PROVIDE. Remember, government doesn't have anything, it forcibly takes from the taxpayer. Now, your intentions may be noble, and in the beginning, provided services started out much smaller. The thing is, it's now way too much, so my question still stands, where does it end? Social security, for example, is a nice idea, but who is gonna pay for it in the years to come? It's a pyramid scheme, and we are all in it too late. Entering debate with hysterical slogans like "don't touch my social security" doesn't contribute to solving the problem of funding a fundamentally flawed system.

The Supreme Court is not God to me, only to those who worship government.

"Life begins before conception"???

I used to hang around some pretty diehard "I believe it's in the Bible, so that settles it!" freaks, but I've never heard that one!

Pixie, he's American.

EPIC FAIL response from Pixie again.

Can't you ever get anything correct?

No kidding eh? I mean how radical and crazy is an ex-pat returning for Thanksgiving or Christmas to be with family. LOL!

More importantly, notice that he resorted (as usual) to an ad hominem vs. the content of what I said.

If I was more sober, I would have read about how his obese child needs diabetic care because he doesn't know how to nurture him/her or how if you can't pay the rent, you deserved to be kicked out of your 'home', or if you can't find flaws in the frivolous lawsuit against you, you deserved to be sued.

Honey, tell me how these consequences affect you that are not your own fault? The only thing I concur with is #6. Government should have no interest in the private life of its citizens as long as it does not negatively impact the government/infringe on other peoples' rights.

Oh for Christ's sake, you obviously were drunk. I used an example of someone needing lifesaving medication be it heart disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, cancer, or other serious disease. I don't have heart disease, nor have children, much less one with diabetes. You also apparently don't realize that people don't have to be obese to have diabetes.

Additionally, you have no clue how the legal system fails everyday. Even to get a frivolous lawsuit thrown out, it will cost you tens of thousands of dollars at a minimum if not hundreds of thousands. The American legal system is a worldwide fucking joke. If you aren't aware of that, you've never been in management or owned your own business to protect yourself.

The inability of the leftist to grasp what the article was about is a
EPIC FAIL

No commentary on what is in the article just some inane argument over abortion.

Is our govt not out of control when a child cant sell a fucking cupcake?

How about when armed pilots are patted down for their prell and fingernail clippers.

Pure fucking genius to not actually address anything in the article. Just hype and stupidity.

Congrats you are the federal govt.

I was too annoyed over that one to comment on it initially.

The same thing has happened twice in Oregon in the last year, though they didn't get arrested, and in one case the people there pitched in and paid the fine -- and some afterward told the mayor the police officer involved should be fired, suggesting child abuse as grounds.

And we had a cold snap here a couple of days ago; two kids set up a stand in front of one parents' house to sell hot drinks -- they were still told they had to have a "vending permit"!

It's really part of the same deal as when someone parking a trailer overnight in front of a friend's house on the way to find a place to live gets fined more than the trailer is worth for "storing vehicle on city street", when within sight are two RVs, a big diesel $250,000 job and a fifth-wheel $80,000 one, not just "stored" on the street but with water hoses and extension cords running to their hosts' houses.

The country is for the wealthy and the "proper" and the "professional". Privilege is protected by the police; the poor are persecuted.

See, that sounds more like a Conservative/Blue Dog thing... trying to wring every possible penny out of the people. Much like the banks who nickel and dime their customers to bankruptcy, all the while supported and defended rabidly by conservatives and Blue Dogs like Blanche Fucking Lincoln.

No, it's for "safety", to make sure no one handles "dangerous instruments" without "proper training", and that no one sells any "food substance" without "proper training" and a "certified source".

Same idiocy that got a kid's lawn mower taken away -- he didn't have an "operator's certificate" for that "power equipment".

It's definitely the nanny-state advocates behind this crap. Then of course the Blue Dog types decide, if there's going to be a regulation, there has to be a fee.....

Between the two varieties of liberal and the plutocrat reactionaries, they do a darned good job of stifling initiative and free enterprise.

Nope.

sorry but I don't buy it.

"Nanny State" it may be to you, although that's just to prevent the plethora of asinine lawsuits that conservatives love so much. The kid can't operate a lawn mower because Johnny can't read thanks to "no child left behind" and doesn't know not to reach under the lawnmower blades.

We can go back and forth all day long and easily say "it's the conservatives" or "the liberals."

But this thread is just more crybaby conservatards moaning about "the liberal nanny state" when conservatives are just as much to blame for their little problems.

LOL

Here, if Johnny can't read it's probably because he doesn't pay attention in school and instead of doing homework is at home tearing apart and rebuilding that lawnmower to see how it works. I met a farm kid a couple of summers ago who was proud of having done only enough to graduate from "that brainwashing place" -- except math, which he loved and his dad decided couldn't be liberal, because numbers were numbers, and shop (metal and wood) which his dad said were "men's learnin'".
Craziest thing about it -- other than that if it could be found on a farm, he could repair it -- was that on his own he'd read all sorts of old classics (Iliad, Tale of Two Cities, War and Peace, Robinson Crusoe, Tom Sawyer....), a list to impress a college literature professor, and that he could do enough math in his head to probably challenge and pass several college introductory courses. But with geography, indeed and kind of social studies, he would likely have come in second to Sarah Palin.

Switching towns, I noticed a sort of synergy that fits your final thesis: liberal Democrats introduced ordinances "for people's safety", Blue Dog types solemnly proclaimed it had to be fiscally responsible and got fees attached -- but when later liberals suggested a couple of ordinances had served their purpose and could be eliminated, guess who screamed bloody murder about losing revenue?
Yep -- the Republicans. They fought the "intrusive liberal authoritarianism" like wild felines when those ordinances were proposed, but just a few years later you'd think they'd invented them.

Its pretty fucked up that you believe a womans primary choice of birth control is a abortion. You must be a super fag and never talk or be around any woman in your entire fucking life to believe that!!! You ever even talked to your Mother?
Oh yeah woman love to go out to the abortion Doctor and spread the legs and put the feet up in the stirrups showing off their privates for a abortion,...don't you know its almost as popular as guys going to get a prostate exam a few times a year.](*,)

Hey. Eddy.

Don't forget to send in $200.00 to the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Okay?

Rest of the world: Don't forget that this thread is about the meaningless American definitions of right and left, where nuke-'em-all, in-your-guts-you-know-he's-nuts Barry Goldwater today would be spied on by the CIA and FBI for being a far-left "fellow traveller."
