There are two teams, one Out on the field, and one In.

Each member of the team that's In comes Out and then he's In until the team that's Out gets him Out at which point he goes In.

Sometimes, you get people still In and Not Out.

When everbody has been both In and Out twice, including the Not Outs, the game ends.

Hope that helped.

SO if one team is in, but a member of it goes out and the out team sends a member in but then chooses to go out but the in team gets mad because they want to be out so they go and be out and the other team is in and then they become in by default but their man is already in, is the other guy in or out?

Cricket will never establish itself in the USA. ;) This thread needs to be moved to the Sports Forum, where any USA Jubbers interested in cricket could happily spend years getting to grips with the rules of the game.

Imagine endless, vacuous, pointless, posts from Peto A. And treble them. ;)

Life is too short... ;)

What I dont understand is why they call these cricket matches "tests"? Why not exams?

Try as I might to understand The Rules of Cricket I could never get past "sticky wicket." I thought that sounded so inviting. :D

Isn't it true that some tests (if that's what they are called) can take several days to complete to crown a winner? I saw a score once and it was something like 349-23. A real nail-biter.

...and the next question is...

"can you have a 'silly mid on' while stroking a 'deep fine leg' in the 'gully'?...

Winter!!! Where are you when we need you?? ;) :p

But even a draw after five days play isn't where the teams have scored the same number of runs, no that would be a tie and has only happened twice in test cricket. To win basically a team must be bowled out twice.

IIRC Australia played a Davis Cup tie angainst the USA on courts at the Boston Cricket Club a couple of years ago.

Oh and for all you non-belivers out there come December 26 (Boxing Day) in Melbourne close to 100,000 people are expected to fill the MCG to watch the first day of the test match.

Some of the fielding positions in cricket are:

Fine Leg
Deep Fine Leg
Silly Point
Silly Mid Off
Silly Mid On
Square Short Leg
Short Leg
Forward Short Leg
Square Leg
Deep Square Leg
Gully

What about the bloke fielding in slips?

Uve just made the Americans even more confused!!!!
they just can't grasp the concept of a game going on for 5 days and yet still ending u with no winners!!!
What's there to be confused? In and out and in and then out again lasts 5 days and ends with nobody the winner. Sounds a lot like sex. So how many men to a team?

So, Cricket began with Monty Python??

Thanks to Winter for the explanation. Really. Be'rr than readin a book 'bout it, innit?

I lived in India for a few years and grew to love the game! I still follow the sport on the internet! What a delicious way to spend a few days in the sun!
