The South of France.

Driving up into the mountains this morning I managed to pull over in order to take a much improved view of Eze Village.

^ I wish I lived in a country as old as yours. We don't have anything like that in Canada.

Is there a nice café up top? After that climb would need some refreshment....

^ They are nothing compared to old-world villages. I've been to Old Quebec City. It's very-much like Quebec City, but older. And Boldt Castle and Casa Loma are knock-offs. They're really not that old. Just built to look that way.

And, let's not forget Casa Loma - Toronto's Harbour Castle.

- I goofed, I forgot to get off this tab as I was getting other images - and lost a bunch!

Alister posted pics of Watkins Falls State Park Gorge in the other thread - here's Letchworth State Park surrounding upstream on the Genesee River - not quite as spectacular, but a very pretty place nonetheless.

We now return you to the South of France.

Have you ever arisen early to go visit somewhere and when you arrive find that to take the spectacular views you intended you have to shoot directly into the morning sun?

Then to add insult to injury the monument is no longer accessible so no photographs of the village roof tops spreading out below.

Well this is La Turbie, higher than Eze Village.

The rest of the photographs are where? Here!

This is my last expedition before flying off on holiday on Monday.

I know I should be packing.

Here are three views I couldn't take.

And just a little extra; an aerial view of the villa where I live and work.

The hill towns are so picturesque.

But I can't stop myself from wondering about the practicalities of rainfall, storm water washing garden soil away, as well as the difficulties of installing water pipes and sewerage pipes.

Thanks for the nice pics Dpnice,

I will let you handle the inland landscape and if you'll allow me I'll post a few coast pics myself, for my breton origins entice me to go for the sea.

Let's start with a map, I think it's always a good idea to let people know where we are on the globe...

This summer, I spent a few days in Cassis (pr. [kasi]), just a little east of Marseille. These are pics of this area.

View of the Cap Canaille, highest sea cliff in France, a well known (and used) suicide spot.

A couple hours walk west of Cassis, in a protected parc (which explains the long and difficult walk in the heat) you will find the heavenly calanques (inlets), truly beautiful places... the laziests of us can access it by sea using kayaks (I wish I did... ruined my more stylish pair of sneakers...)

Ok all these pictures are really helping my decision to visit the South of France!

I have plans for a trip out on Thursday but that depends on me getting all my work done as Madame returns at the end of the month.
