When the MSG Sphere opened in Las Vegas in 2023 one of the first comments on Just Us Boys was: "a $ billion venue opens with no dedicated events scheduled to make money - so the plan is to lose money Everyday!".

Well, here we are in 2025, and one idea to make money is to adapt classic movies to be displayed on a surround-super screen in high-definition as a dedicated presentation not to be shown anywhere else.

"The Wizard of Oz", 1939, was selected for conversion to Sphere-duty, and the previews are "interesting". No one goes to Vegas to watch a movie, but if the price is right it might be worth consideration.

Backstreet Boys at the sphere

This is a good example of what the MSG Sphere owners are asking. If concerts are filmed at the Sphere and replayed without the need of the live performers, would fans still pay to watch?

Then I can go back to the hotel and pretend my hookup is Richard Pryor.

The filming of the color sequence for "The Wiz" at the World Trade Center Plaza, one of the outstanding events of the 1970's. Thank you, my friend!

Any movie adapted for the Sphere would have to become proprietary as a regularly scheduled event in order to generate revenue. As a movie theater, the Las Vegas Sphere does not seem well suited for the task. Good movies require a more intimate venue that plays well with "special" scenes that can define a good movie as a Great Movie.

There are two fun gay Las Vegas bars a stone's throw down Twain Ave from the Sphere.

There's growing concern as the Las Vegas entertainment district continues to price itself beyond the reach of average Las Vegas visitors.
All types of businesses are feeling the effects of price tag shock but bars and restaurants are trying to hold the lid on costs for the sake of locals and visitors.

I've been there. I liked it. It's your basic divey gay bar. Cheap drinks, mostly locals.
Not everyone likes Las Vegas. The Strip is excess and expensive. But I'm looking forward to a return visit.

What? I think trailer trash night might be pretty fun 😂
Technically speaking, sticking your dick in a beehive might be fun, but I prefer to put my faith in the laws of probability.

The future of the Las Vegas tourist appeal is not looking good. The MSG Sphere was built just as the Vegas tourist trade was collapsing under the high cost of everything.

The Zac Brown Band is having a "residency" at the Sphere. I don't like all their songs, but "Knee Deep" is just the sweetest song ever

Love It!

Funny to frame the MSG Sphere as a billion dollar venue in an online world. Live concerts are, of course, a natural fit for the Sphere. But the building is so expensive it's almost as if the financiers assumed taxpayers would pay for the venue right from opening day! The fall in tourism has hit Vegas hard and the city needs to learn from locals how to live on a budget.

Beyond the MSG Sphere, it looks like the entire city of Las Vegas has priced itself to a summer of ruin.

All of my Vegas groups are talking about that. Even the hardcore people that come in all the time are staying away. Personally I would love to go back if I could afford it, but with F1 taking over for months each year even I am not that interested for a good chunk of the year.
