The World Without the US

They are missing the boat on future energy technologies, disliking electric cars for political reasons in no way changes the fact that they are far far more efficient than gas powered vehicles and in economics efficiency always wins. Eventually we will be like China and steal others technology because it’s the fastest way to catch up.

I get my electricity thru the city I live in and there are new rates beginning in December, I live in Massachusetts and the state mandates a minimum of 36% renewable energy for all providers but you can go higher and the city I get my power from uses 67% renewable energy and for the first time my rate is lower than the utility rate. It’s not much lower but it’s appears to be trending in the right direction.

If republicans would just forget about climate change and focus on economics they might have an epiphany.

Well...that and a wrecking machine.

Of course, there is that solid 1/3 unwavering, unquestioning support for the Fuhrer.

We have seen this again and again.

Seemingly reasonable people question how this could even be so...but they don't seem to understand a fundamental law about sociopolitical dyunamics.

This is about as stark as it gets. The Trumpists believe in their cult leader to the death.

The irony just burns....I doubt if it were blacks in place of the whites, that Trump would even notice.

More perfromative nonsense and another excuse for the US to withdraw from multi-lateral organizations. Too bad though, because Vlad will likely be there.

Once again, the leaders of powerhouse states will be the representatives of tens of millions of Americans as the federal US presence disappears.

Unsurprised.

I am only thankful that the Trump regime was not in power during the AIDS epidemic.

Hard to imagine, but they would have likely made things even 10 times worse.

To be fair to Ronnie Reagan, he did try very hard to make the gay men's health crisis worse than it already was.
What this current bunch of know nothings would have done is too frightening to think about.

So no surprises that the US National Security plan is based on abandoning Europe.

In my thread on the world being divided into spheres of power, with rrrzzia, China and the US acting like crime bosses to control their own turf without interference by the others, I suggested this was the plan and last night Jon Stewart also explained how this is the imperialist vision for the future.

It also aligns with the visions of the corporate kings with multi-national interests who would be able to control the economy and the people.

We've been here before over the last 5000 years and as recently as the late part of the last century. Missing, of course are the European imperial powers that did rule the world until they didn't.

Even the Pope has expressed dismay at the US dismantling the alliances of the last 80 years...I imagine he is able to see the real dangers ahead.

This is pretty sad. Particularly in countries that have had a favourable rating of the US.

I understand your point and it is sad but it would be worse if the world like us more with that reprobate in the White House.

The recall of 30 or so ambassodors from countries around the world has rocked the diplomatic world. We know that Trump will want people who are loyal to him alone and the isolationist, bullying
agenda but this move, combined with a large number of vacant ambassador posts will leave the US more and more isolated from world affairs.

Instead, his international agenda will be fed by unverified accounts of attacks against whites, or christians.

I expect that like the off the walls 'Envoy' appointment to Greenland that Trump will just sidestep appointments requiring Senate confirmation or proof of any actual capability to do the job. He gets to
snub all the countries he doesn't like by downgrading the diplomatic appointments and to send loyalists to serve as mouthpieces to yell at governments unfriendly to Trump's attempt at autocracy.

Meanwhile, the US is actively making sure that the EU will be further isolated.

Rubio spouting off about extraterritorial censorship when he works for a regime actively imposing censorship is risible.

Musk just wants to have the right to spread racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, transphobic far right wing fascist ideology...all of this is him.

So we know that TrumpCo. is on course to destroy NATO.

He hates it because Putin fears it and told him to destroy it.

The threats against a fellow NATO member country to take their territory was pretty much the bell tolling for the Alliance and everyone knows it.

When I read all the nonsense on-line from 'analysts' who beleive that Trump would never dare attack a fellow NATO state...it makes me groan now, because on the day that the US launches an invasion to seize the island, Trump will unilaterally declare that the US is finsihed with NATO and that Europe is now on its own to defend against Soviet rrrZZZia 2.0.

A reminder of where we are...in the autumn, Denmark excluded the US from exercises. Obviously the US would know what was going on...but this must have been a first.

The US is now not to be trusted in the Arctic and likely not on the front lines in Europe either.

The isolation of the US continues as TrumpCo. plans to withdraw the US from more international orgnaizations. On one hand, this is a shame, because the work of some of these
groups is strengthened through the goodwill exchange of information and science and others have been part of the soft power infrastructure.

The good news though?

The work of a lot of these organizations will be made stronger by not having the heavy hand of a fascist, anti-science regime forcing compromises and effectively dictating policy that is intended only to benefit
the corporate, militaristic goals of TrumpCo.

On balance...likely a strong win for China and not a bad outcome for other second world countries who owe incresingly less allegiance to Washington.
