THOR the movie: First Images

I can't believe such big names are in something that looks so ridiculous.
 
Yeah I'm not a fan of those costumes. But I've never been a huge Thor fan in general.

For some, flashy colorful uniforms work. Others they don't. I'm still undecided here. I'm thinking maybe they should've gone with his Ultimate look. Seems like it could be incredibly campy.
 
I hope it doesn't turn into something silly. Marvel has actually done alright with Spiderman and Ironman, although I can't say that I was all that impressed with the X-Men flicks. I might be that I have been reading X-Men since I was a kid and the movies tried to incorporate too much and too many characters where they just didn't belong.

I think it more the aesthetic of the costume itself, and not the fact of the costume. They do roughly resemble the comic book costumes but why does it have to look so plastic? The costumes look like toys - surely they could do better.

It looks like it is being made for the SyFy Channel. Yes, it looks that cheap.
 
I think it looks alright. But, I'm not as a critical of comic book movies as a lot of people are. I grew up in the 80's, the era of crappy comic book adaptations! :badgrin: The Hulk, Spiderman, and Captain America really stunk back then.

That's my main issue at the moment. Of course I'm only judging by these still pics, so hopefully my opinion will change once a polished trailer is released. I'm by no means a Thor buff and have little interest/knowledge in him other than the basics.

Sometimes, flashy shiny colorful superhero costumes work (case in point Spider-Man and Superman). Those movies were successful and their outfits are pretty iconic, despite the straight from the comics look of them. Same with Batman, but his appeal benefits from having a dark, brooding look from the get go - so I doubt there's be much fuss over his looks.

Conversely, the X-Men films (IMO) did the smart thing and gave them a realistic look and definitely made them appear as a team with the black leather and what have you. If they did give Wolverine and friends the "yellow spandex" look, I don't my beloved mutants would've been as successful a film franchise.

Then again, the X-Men are hardly "heroes" in the eyes of most of the public. People in the films aren't out cheering and being all "thank god the x-men are to save us" so their darker look was better incorporated for the tone of their films.
 
OK firstly these are on set pictures allow yourself to watch the costumes which I think look well except the colour coded capes ie red for thor green for Loki.

Secondly most film heroes are were rubber leather etc, I like this it looks like armour.

I would wait and see more clips etc before passing judgment but I've loved Chris from his days in Home and Away so I'll watch/drool at him in anything but seriously I saw a behinde the scene clip and the film looks well.
 
Even though I've never cared for Thor...

I will end up seeing this...Namely because Kenneth Branagh as director is simply too tantalizing to pass up.
 
we've already worn off greek mythology and we start with nordic comic-based films??

I'm skeptical about this movie. We'll see how it turns out.
 
Well, I don't know much about Marvel's "Thor" comics, but I am looking forward to the movie. It seems that the studio has released concept art on how the costumes should look. I just wonder how well it will translate to the movie itself.
