He was seriously-big news here at the time. I would have recognised the both the name and the photo. Life here is minimum 25 years. In 2039, he will be eligible for parole, but, if he lives that long, it's doubtful he would be granted it.

Luka was 'on the run' after murdering and chopping up an international student Lin Jun. He sent the hands and feet to schools and political party offices.

The murder took place in May of 2012 and posted it online. His story went international, as did the search. He was finally caught in Berlin in December 2014. He became a member for 1 day while he was evading the police.

That's why Charon posted this thread. If he hadn't, I never would have known that Luka was a member here.

As to why I created it, I've always wondered why Telstra gets a kick out of creating threads about random crap. That, and to see if it caught my fellow JUBers, and the mods by surprise.

I can think of only one other Canadian murderer on a lever with and just as despicable as Luka, and that is Paul Barnardo.

I can think of only one other Canadian murderer on a lever with and just as despicable as Luka, and that is Paul Barnardo.

Oh i saw that case on one of those crimes from the past shows, couples who kill or something, didn't the wife get off with most of it by giving evidence against him ?

That again raises the question of whether Chinese, in China or out, are as accepting, or as homophobic as other cultures.

I've had warm personal friendships with several Chinese families in my life, but not known any to speak to gay politics or civil rights, but I had no partner, so it didn't come up in any of our conversations. We were simply friends.

It just seems like we constantly hear that successful professionals here from India and China both seem to have a different pressure on them to marry and have children than families here, especially if in the ranks of engineers, doctors, and other professionals. That's not data, or politics, just the impression we get.

No, I meant rather the ongoing discussion of whether different cultures that we have coming together in America, and in other countries like Canada, have a reason to see our brothers from China and India or any other minority culture here, as needing more support for coming out. We are not all the same, and if we want an out and proud gay populace, we have to understand and meet people where they are, and encourage them.

And, back to Magnotta, if he had been convicted and imprisoned here, it is much more likely he would have been killed already due to the cannibalism charge and the dismemberment.

Not many JUB members have killed and dismembered someone, and gotten caught and convicted. But, it is probably just us misunderstanding Canadian law and some reason why they cut up the people they murder.

Not a pretty sight. He's 35 now.
