Too many effeminate images of black gay men on television

And I am sick and tired of ignorant backward macho idiots who think that "masculinity = good, femininity = bad". Why the fuck should anyone care what those dumb fucks think?

RuPaul has more courage and backbone than Rosa Parks.

What you seem entirely clueless on is the difference between being feminine, being transgender and being a PERFORMER - which drag queens are. RuPaul has done an incredible amount of good for the acceptance of Drag Queens and transgender women. She is not trying to specially benefit the black gay community (perhaps the distinction isn't really something anyone benefits from, mhm?), nor should she, just because she is black.

I am cognizant that RuPaul is an entertainer but as a person of colour, a public figure, and a black gay man RuPaul is someone I just don't respect. RuPaul doesn't use his celebrity help other black gays that queen is focused only on himself.
That's one of the main reasons why I can't stand RuPaul he's all about himself he's a smart business man but in terms of advancing black gay rights he's a loser.

I respect people like Don Lemon a million times more than RuPaul because Don Lemon is trying to have a dialogue to make a difference in the black community. Don Lemon uses his celebrity to spread the word that it is okay to be a black gay man.

RuPaul only cares about his own bank account hardly progressive and certainly not someone that deserves respect for a variety of reasons.

What RuPaul cares about, is drag culture. Just because you don't know jack about it, doesn't make it unimportant. Google it.

Fine, RuPaul cares about white gay culture let's be honest here. RuPaul markets himself to the white gay community he's on LOGO with his drag race show. RuPaul knows where his cheques are coming from.

Someone like RuPaul could make a difference for black gays and lesbians but he's a complete disgrace to the black gay community.

Thank goodness for people like Meshell N'degeocello, and Don Lemon, Keith Boykin and black queers like those becuase they get it.

Great, RuPaul is a flaming drag queen but in the grand scheme of things especially in the black community RuPaul is not respected.

RuPaul won't get the respect like someone like Don Lemon who is a hero to so many.

There needs to be more of a balance we all know these effeminiate types exist my problem is the media tend to use them and make them seem like they are the norm which is false.

I think the LA Complex was probably the best show I've ever seen of a black gay couple both guys were masculine which was nice to see. Sad that the LA Complex got cancelled so quickly but I miss Tariq and Kal.

Most gay black men I know do not wear make up, or dresses, or high heels, lip stick and act like these people.

The way these guys talk and act, I think they exaggerate themselves for television epecially those effeminate types on those reality shows.

I almost forgot about Noah's Arc, that show was interesting although I thought there were too many effeminiate characters on that show. I liked Wade and Alex's boyfriend there were the only masculine guys on the show and they weren't homo thugs or whatever.

you know, it seems like it's a bigger problem in the media. with that said, it's the same issue in porn. sorry to go off topic BUT damn, there's like very few gay black porn stars that basically aren't associated with a stereotype whether it's their porn persona or their names. the most racist shit i've ever seen was this website that seems to be fetish based which stereotypes black men for being thugs having sex with submissive white guys. of course, the black guy who looks like he's up to no good going by the name "bone thug", "sexay jay", "t-gawd", "thugalopolis" or whatever "thuggish" name they can give him, with the fitted or the doorag on is the top and the white guy looking like he took the wrong street on his way to Sean Cody or randy blue is the bottom. they don't even let the black perform take off the damn headgear either. he fucks with the doorag on or fitted on. :dead: what part of the game is that? can't he take the headgear off? who the fuck has sex with a damn doorag on his head?

and yo... i also can't stand how in many of the gay black porns with two black performers fucking each other. they have to make the top act super masculine to the point where he acts like a damn thug like the ones in the racist stereotypical fetish porns and the bottom acts like and even to a certain degree looks like a damn woman. they REALLY over do it to the point where i can't even jerk off to it. it just looks nasty especially the way the bottom acts. if i want to watch a straight porno where i can see a woman get in touch with her feminine side, then i'll watch it. gay porno on the other hand, two guys going at it. i want to see two dudes getting it in and putting on a show. not acting out some fucking gender roles and shit. i downloaded this one porn with some dude and shawty j or whatever his name is. i couldn't get off to it and when that dude shawty j who was the bottom looked into the damn camera, looking and acting like a female when he was getting the dick, that was it. it was NOT hot. it was quite nasty. he was acting like he had a vagina.

now next door studios has next door ebony going on.

You've made your point - only "chill" "masc" black gay men are ok. Drag Queens are disgusting and should go kill themselves, especially that race traitor RuPaul.

Yeah, both me and RuPaul are crying ourselves to sleep because you don't respect her.

One wonders why you respond then ^_^ I get the impression of a severely impaired deaf-mute who can only communicate with pictograms... Can't shake it...

Gay stereotypes on TV really embarrass me actually. Some aren't too bad, but does anyone remember Leon and Scott on Roseanne? I just can't watch that show when they're on, it's just so humiliating to watch.

Oddly enough, actual gay people who act like that don't bother me at all. Ever seen Rolyungashaa on YouTube? I think he's cute and funny.

A black gay academic Dwight McBride wrote a book a while back called "Why I Hate Ambercrombie and Fitch" McBride wrote an entire chapter about the racism in the gay porn industry. McBride does an excellent job of breaking down all the racism and the racial stereotypes in the gay porn industry. Gay porn is indeed problematic. One question, are you talking about Castro Supreme? I think there is a website that used to exist called "Its Gonna Hurt" where white guys get fucked by Castro because he has a ten inch dick or something like that.

It's sad when people tell someone how to be black, and set standards that they're letting down the "black gay" community if they don't do it right.

Yaaaay for Don Lemon! He's butching it up and leveraging misogyny to help butch black boys [STRIKE]flounce out of the closet[/STRIKE] stride manfully out of the closet. Nobody's going to mess with them!

Sassy gif time!

disagree right here, sis. everybody was effeminate. masculine in appearance but masculine acting, no.
And unfortunately that's something I encounter with gays in general in real life. Masculine in appearance? Yes. But masculine behavior/mannerisms? Nooooooo.

And then some of the forum members wonder why some gays are into straight men.

you know something. here's what's funny. there are some guys that are naturally effeminate. there's some guys that act effeminate because they think that that's how gay men are supposed to act. as long as that person is being themselves, who cares. to me, someone acting effeminate and they're really NOT that way is just as bad as closet case that acts all masculine or constantly does things to prove that they're not gay. being gay is basically being attracted to the same sex. your body and brain takes care of that. there's no need to do shit else other than to come out the closet. just because someone is gay doesn't mean that they have to dress in tight jeans, listen to lady gaga, watch logo, or get deep into gay culture. it comes off as a bit of insecurity where they seem to be in fear that they don't really know who they are as a person so they're looking for some sort of identity to hold on to. the most important thing is that someone knows who they are. there's plenty of guys that wear tight jeans, listen to lady gaga, watch logo and are into gay culture and they're straight. folks just need to be themselves and not let the world dictate who they should be.

What's with all this "She, She, She" stuff? Rupaul is not a "she", he's a man in a dress. Granted, you seem to be more involved in the Drag culture than I am (or wish to be), but I was unaware that RuPaul was Transgender.

And again with the femmephobia. Ostracizing our own - the ones who society already hates the most - is a very masc, butch, manly thing to do. Very dignified. Congrats, you're a paragon of gay masculinity now.

No, RuPaul is a man, not transgender. But it's etiquette - when in drag, a drag queen is a "she" (and they tend to talk to each other with female pronoun all the time), and since we are discussing Ru's drag persona, I use "she".

you have to understand something. in the black community, homosexuals are looked down as the lowest of the low. back 10 years ago when america was in the dumps, the whole entire homophobia thing was in full swing in the black community to the point where it became a witchhunt for gay guys. you had j.l. king, who was a gay guy, with the whole "downlow brother" movement, making books, basically profitting off of homophobia in the black community. it was so bad that the man was actually on oprah encouraing women particularly black women on this bullshit where they should look for signs that their husband, boyfriend or whoever was gay. the reason behind that was he brought this idea that gay black men were infecting black women with hiv. he singlehandedly set the gay black community 100 years back because of that shit. dude was basically profitting off of that shit. basically shitting on gay black men like himself for fucking dollars. he would demonize gay black men where they couldn't come out without being shitted on and then at the same time, say that they couldn't be closeted because they were ruining lives and getting women sick. :##: homophobia was at an all time high within the black community at that point. bet was actually hosting fucking specials about that shit treating homosexuality as if it was a disease. bad enough, religion also has an influence as well so put that in the mix.

the typical image in the black community of a black gay guy is basically a fem queen. bad enough, being a gay man in the black community is equated with losing your manhood and being treated like a woman even when you're NOT. you are NOT seen as being a man regardless if they're masculine or effeminate. you are just seen as a have not. there is NO safety net for black gays in the black community because of that. everybody is pretty much looking out for themselves. the black lgbt community is WEAK by itself.

Well, then the black community has a lot of growing up to do still, on gay issues, same as the Latino community btw. But the way to do this is not to seek "Enemies Within the Party" to throw to the lions in some desperate attempt to show how manly and butch you are, but to embrace all diversity within the group, present a unified front, plant your feet and say "yes, we are black, we're gay, and some of us are feminine. Deal with it!"

Anything else is just cowardice and capitulating to heteronormative bigotry.
