Torchwood Update

I'm not usually looking to be offended, so I've never noted whether cut content was supposedly gay or not. I just know they cut what they can get away with that doesn't affect the overall story in order to maximize commercial time.

It's not about looking to be offended... but it was extremely glaring because I remember hearing Jack saying it when I originally watched the episodes, having downloaded them, and watching the two Dalek episodes and the final three with the Master, and not really paying that much attention to the others, waiting for them. It's rare on Doctor Who for any characters, gay or straight to admit having romantic feelings for another (although it certainly happens more in the new series than it ever did on classic Who), and especially a "playa" like Capt. Jack Harkness. So when it didn't appear when the third season finally appeared, I couldn't help but notice. The real thing that bothers me is there were other things that could have used editing and would have made more time for commercials or what not if that was the issue... for instance, there was a line where the Master calls Martha and Jack "the girly and the freak" and then says "though I'm not sure which one is which". On another show I like, Voyager, I noticed a lot of editing of some great lines and it would be hard for me to "look to be offended" that the removed content was "gay or not (since there was not a single gay storyline ever on Voyager or any other Star Trek series). What I noticed is that on one run they edit out certain lines, and leave other ones in, and then when the whole run of episodes reair, they make a different set of edits and they start from the unedited version and edit out in other places where they left it in the first run. In effect, every bit of dialogue gets aired at least one time. This is what they should have done on Sci Fi, since they would air the first run at 9 PM and then an encore airing at 1 AM. They could have let the "You too, huh?" line remain in the encore presentation, at the very least.

Hopefully if future episodes of Doctor Who have edited content, gay-themed, or otherwise, the Sci Fi channel won't screw it up like they've clearly done this time around. But especially if there happens to be any gay content.

I think there will be a male on male kiss coming up soon. I think that is what I was seeing during the commercial. (Main American Guy kissing other dude).

I think you mean the episode "Captain Jack Harkness", which is airing on BBC America from the first season, not the second (which is airing next January), since I haven't heard of any same-sex male kisses in the 2nd season just yet.

If you watch the episode, let me know if this is what you're referring to or it was something else.

Possible spoilers if you haven't seen the entire first season yet. You may want to watch this week's premiere airing of the 12th episode in 1st season of Torchwood before you view this entire clip if you don't want to ruin any surprises --

Ah, but that's my point. Different viewers would place emphasis on different content, as possibly would different censors. I am 'offended' by having content of decent shows, such as 'Who' or 'Torchwood' cut to pieces by a network that airs 'Flash Gordon' in its entirety (yes, I realize that Flash is theirs, but still...). Moreover I ascribe the edits to corporate greed, rather than prudishness, or some other 'values' related motive. The bottom line is, after all, the bottom line. And they wonder why we find alternative media or at the very least, alternative sources to their networks.

LOL, well, glad you are offended by what the Sci Fi Channel has done for some reason or another, and also lol at what you put for your reason for editing.

Yeah, and the CRIA is one of the worst of the "they" you refer to!

BTW, by "over here, where do you mean i.e. what country do you reside in? Also, just curious... is that avatar actually a pic of you?

Just finished watching the "1941" episode on BBC America. And it was holding hands - dancing slow and tight - and a kiss that was anything but innocent or quick. Really good TV

i don't care that much for torchwood. it's fine, but for some reason i don't like all the sex (gay or str8 ) in the show. i also don't like the kisses in doctor who. probably a hold over from childhood, i just don't wanna see sex in my doctor who shows. lol sarah jane adventures just finished up and while much more of a kids show than DW (i would say at least) i liked it.

i thought last year torchwood aired before doctor who did. i thought it breached a bit of the gap between seasons? maybe i'm wrong.

I have my own reasons for not caring for Torchwood that much. I feel that the quality of the episodes of the first season vary widely from one to the next... it's simply too inconsistent to remain incredibly coherent, and to hold my interest just hoping to watch long enough till I get to a really good episode. I felt the same way about a couple of ST series and even some seasons of Doctor Who.

I think it's OK to show affection, and even sex in Torchwood. Perhaps it's time that the Whoniverse join the 21st century. In additon to Sarah Jane Adventures, there's always classic Doctor Who for a sexless, mostly loveless depiction of sci fi (even more so than SJA). Over 150 great episodes to choose from (although some, sadly are missing beyond recovery...)

i don't mind seeing sex in SciFi. I'm not sure why torchwood hasn't captured all my interest yet. I've watched each episode though. i was only speculating that i don't really care for it because of the sex. i have every episode of doctor who still in existence and even "reconstructed" versions of the lost episodes. ;)

There's no doubt that Torchwood suffers from inconsistency. The last Season 1 episode -the one airing next week- is bad. "Countrycide" was attrocious. "Random Shoes", on the other hand, was a wonderful romp. I don't know if it's Davies divided attention or some other force, but there's something akimbo in the series.

The United States. Became a citizen at age 12, but was born in Italy. Nope, the avatar's a model named Caleb Smith. I have a tiny crush on him.:-)

I think they just hadn't figured out waht they wanted the show to be until the last couple of episodes. What I truly enjoyed about the first season was that they were willing to try anything in terms of genre, and were willing to go so far as to make our 'heroes' not just fallible, but downright unlikeable. Most shows don't take those risks. By the time the season ended I found that I really liked the team, despite their shortcomings. Now that they've gelled somewhat, the addition of Martha Jones, even if it's only temporary, is something I'm looking forward to. Oh, and an episode where gnomes are discovered to be real, and reclaim Owen as one of theirs.;)

I was planning on watching the "reconstructed" Marco Polo, but after watching the first three episodes of The Tenth Planet, and then watching the fourth, only available as a reconstruction, and seeing the difference between the actual and the reconstruction, I am definitely gonna put that Marco Polo thing on the back burner. I might watch it eventually

BTW, do you have the episode Inferno, and if so, do you use any file sharing programs? I am having a hard time getting the entire thing to download.

Just Owen, really. Suzie, I don't think, ever counted. Everything Jack did that wasn't all sweet and nice was competely justified, and didn't harm his likeability that much. And he did plenty of other great things in other occassions when he felt he could afford to.

You and me both! It's only fair, considering Freema, when playing Adeola, was a member of (the previous incarnation of) Torchwood, before the Cybermen put an end to that. And I can never get enough of Martha Jones, so I'm glad we'll see her for more than just one paltry season of Who.

Really? I loved "Countrycide"! (kindof a texas chainsaw massacre meets torchwood.) and hated Random Shoes to the point that I skipped to the end after watching 20 mins of it. I just didn't care for it!

My favourite scene was the ending of the series. With Jack just lying there and we are left wondering if he's coming back to the point where he runs off to meet the Doctor!!

and kind of silly (like the episode with the bionic woman in it). It is a really great show. I like how it is an anagram of Doctor Who (Torchwood).

That was a cyber-man (er woman) and they are not to be triffled with. :p

Watch Season two (episode 2) of Doctor Who to found out the origins of Torchwood!

I wonder, have any Barrowman/Torchwood fans that are regulars mainly of this board only seen this thread just yet?

You know....I never stopped to wonder if he was or not. Infact I never wonder about this question cause it's not a big deal. Besides, David Tennant is hotter and know I don't know if he's cut or uncut and I don't care either! ..|

David Tennant is hotter
Well they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but how anyone can think David Tennant is hotter than John Barrowman is beyond me.

Wow, that's definitely one thing we agree on, at least.
