Donald Trump is trying again with Christine Jack Toretti — this time nominating her to serve as the next ambassador to Sweden.

During his last administration, Trump tapped Toretti, a businesswoman and GOP fundraiser, as his pick to become the ambassador to Malta. The Senate never confirmed her, returning her nomination in 2019 and again in 2020, with Democrats questioning the quality of some of Trump’s nominees. Toretti at the time was reported to have had a restraining order filed against her for allegedly putting a bullet-riddled target sheet in the office of her ex-husband’s doctor.

For as long as I have known Tulsi Gabbard, I now understand I have never known her and probably never will.

So much of what she does seems to make sense only to her.

One interesting thing that is mentioned in the articles is Gabbard's religious upbringing. She was home-schooled until she entered college. She's described as a "practicing Hindu" but her family was involved with a branch of Hare Krishna that is well-established in the Hawaiian islands. In her political career, she went from conservative to progressive back to conservative. She was the only House Democrat to vote against impeaching Trump in the first impeachment over the Ukraine extortion attempt.

In one of her last actions as a US Congressperson in 2019, she introduced a bill to ban trans athletes in sports.

One other interesting factoid, Gabbard first attempt at college (she dropped out) was a communications degree- as in television production. This explains some of why she has spent most of her political career with a TV camera in front of her face and it also gives her something in common with another political chameleon, Kari Lake.

The Hegseth adventure begins today with the beginning of his confirmation hearings.

It is looking more and more like several of the Trump nominees might not have the votes. There's been several MAGA back-benchers out this week declaring "We have the votes!" and "All of Trump's nominees will be confirmed!". The Trump goon squad has been harassing Senators with intimidation tactics that may be causing more harm than good.

Meanwhile, several of the hearings that were scheduled this week have been delayed because the background checks and vetting did not meet the standards that the Senate wanted.

And there's that nasty row between the MAGA wing and the Bro-llionaire wing of the Trump campaign that is using up a lot of the propaganda space.
