The problem is that now the GQP and Trump will go to almost any lengths to protect him for the next 2 years. I don't think that DUI's or other personal behaviour will do it. As long as he carries out the Project 2025 mandate for his department and is seen to lick Trump's taint at every turn, they will let him reform the military into squadrons of only straight white aryan men with KKK or NAZI leanings. If they can find enough of them. The reality is that the US armed forces are going to be wrecked by his Andrew Tate self-image issues.

It is why it will be interesting to see who is pushed forward as Deputy Director and Under Secretaries. If they are equally incompetent picks off the FOX or OAN line-up, then you can be assured that they will get the first blame as things go wrong.

If the GQP think that by giving Trump his ShowBoat nominee as a placeholder, then they may be far pickier about who the 2 IC will be, counting on a quick turnover.

Exactly. Black enlisted men tends to run around 20% in the Army, whereas Black men are only 15% of the population. The same is true of black enlisted women - it's higher than the general population.

The studies that I saw about overall recruitment numbers said that the problem in the past decade is not that men aren't interested in the Army. The problem has been that they can't pass the physical, they didn't finish high school, had criminal records or they couldn't pass the drug screening. There's also been a problem with the pandemic generation - they can't pass basic academic proficiency testing:

As alarm bells have been going off nationally in terms of sliding education performance, the Army has seen a drop in applicants able to meet even the lowest academic standards.

All those Republicans babbling on about "wokeness" in the military should have been talking about how the Army has to teach reading and writing in order to get new recruits to pass the academic testing required for enlistment.
