Humor-Satire Trump Staff Picks, Co-Conspirators and the Revolving Door of Departures [2024 Edition]

Remember how Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, Susan strongly-worded-letter Collins and Lisa Murkowski were supposedly the reasonable Republicans who would make sure that problematic nominees weren't confirmed?

Well... meet Billy Long.

500px-Billy_Long_IRS_Commissioner.jpg

Billy used to be the US Congressman for Branson, Missouri. Yep, Anita Bryant's post-disgrace home away from home. He retired from Congress in 2023 at age 69. It appears that Long was selected because, while in Congress, he put up a bill to abolish the IRS.

While Billy Long was waiting for confirmation (which took nearly 120 days), the Trump Administration hired him to work as a "senior adviser to the Office of Personnel Management" and he was paid a salary of $195,200 per year.

On June 12, 2025, Billy Long was confirmed by the Senate in a 53-44 vote, with every Republican voting to confirm him.

Then somewhere around late July, someone realized that Billy Long didn't have a college degree, of any type. In fact, he had never worked in accounting or anything closely related to taxes. Prior to his illustrious career in Congress, Billy Long had operated Billy Long Auctions, auctioning cows for a living.
Once someone realized that Billy Long wouldn't have a fucking clue how to run the Internal Revenue Service, there was a scramble to "reassign" him.

Billy Long is now the new Ambassador to Iceland.

For your enjoyment... Billy Long did distinguish himself when he got into a shouting match with Laura Loomer (yes, that Laura Loomer) in a House hearing. Well, it started a shouting match until Billy decided to auction her off.

I hate this ignorant fucker! He's been a plague in my state for 14 years. He ran an auction house in the Ozarks from 1979 to 2011 until he ran for Congress from Missouri's 7th district. I hope he freezes his fat ass to an Iceland iceberg and sinks into the ocean.

Trump has nominated an ambassador to India.

A few months ago, Trump's Director of White House Personnel had some stories written about him. Sergio Gor, age 38, had worked for Sen Rand Paul [R-KY] after previously working for Rep Steve King [R-IA] and Michelle Bachmann [R-MN]. Gor's biography indicated he had immigrated to the US from Malta and his mother was a citizen of Israel.

While in his position as WH Personnel Director, Gor ran afoul of Elon Musk. Shortly thereafter, press outlets started reporting that Sergio Gor was actually Sergey Gorokhovsky and that he was born in Uzbekistan, then part of the USSR. Whispers began to circulate on Twitter (surprise!) that Gor was a Russian spy.

Sergio Gor is now the ambassador nominee to India. Gor, of course, does not speak any of the languages of India, but fortunately English is the lingua franca for the country.

When he was named director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel under U.S. President Donald Trump, a media report called Sergio Gor “maybe the most powerful man you’ve never heard of.”

Gor’s public profile has increased more recently, as he continued his work overseeing appointments of thousands of officials for the Trump administration. Media coverage has since filled in much of his biography with one glaring exception — his birthplace.

Now, the Times of Malta and OCCRP have obtained a notarized Maltese property record that shows Gor’s origins. He was born Sergio Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which was part of the Soviet Union at the time.

Sergio Gor, who has played a critical role in deciding who does and doesn’t get jobs in President Donald Trump’s administration, is likely headed overseas for a plum diplomatic post.

Trump announced in a social media post on Friday afternoon that he was appointing Gor, who runs the Presidential Personnel Office, to serve as ambassador to India and as special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.

Two big railroads in the US- Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern- want to merge. The merger is opposed by labor unions and must be approved by a governmental review board called the Surface Transportation Board.

Trump fired one of the members of the board who is opposed to the merger. Robert Primus was appointed to the STB in 2020 by then President Donald Trump. Primus had worked in various governmental positions for 30 years.

Hmm... I wonder if there might be another reason why this particular board member was fired?

Psychotherapists are reporting an increase in patients with aerophobia- fear of flying. A couple of airlines are offering special classes for passengers with fear of flying to help them learn coping techniques.

Stories like this one might be why:

Shocking images captured the moment a Spirit Airways jet appeared to cross paths with a Southwest Airlines plane at over 30,000ft.

The dramatic pictures were taken by wildlife photographer Mike Griffin on August 25 as the two planes flew over Jekyll Island in Georgia.

Griffin said he was startled by how close the two jets appeared in the sky, and said he began quickly snapping photos after witnessing them apparently careen towards each other.

Or this one:
Southwest Airlines passengers report sudden drop after departure from Burbank

Passengers on a Southwest Airlines jet described an unsettling drop Friday on a flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport to Las Vegas after onboard air traffic alerts indicated another aircraft in the area.

Southwest Airlines flight No. 1496 departed just before noon from Burbank to Las Vegas. The plane went on to land safely in Las Vegas after tense moments in the air over California.

Social media posts from people on the plane described the aircraft as entering a "dive" a few minutes after takeoff from the San Fernando Valley airport for the short flight to Las Vegas. Southwest Airlines said the crew was responding to two onboard traffic alerts that the FAA said indicated another aircraft near the passenger airliner.

Maybe putting the Real World guy in charge of aviation wasn't a good look for passenger faith in airline safety?

Today's plane crash was a small one.

One person was killed and three were injured when two small planes collided midair as they tried to land at an airport in northeastern Colorado, authorities said.

A Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 collided Sunday morning while trying to land at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The thing is...the FAA and the Secretary just keep going back to blaming the Biden Admin and Buttegeig for the problems because of the antiquated systems that a GQP Congress refused to approve funding to replace.

The problem goes back to when Reagan fired the air traffic controllers in 1981. Since then, there's been a scramble to keep ATC staffed. ATC had a mandatory retirement age at 56. If you do the math, the mandatory retirement for the post-Reagan ATC came just before COVID, when all of the ATC schools shutdown during the pandemic.

Buttigieg does need to produce testimony where he discussed the crappy state of the traffic control system with Congress but, honestly, Congress has been told that it needed to be updated and that there were near misses for decades. The latest time they were told was in a 2024 GAO report, with the subtle title of "Air Traffic Control: FAA Actions Are Urgently Needed to Modernize Aging Systems":
The Federal Aviation Administration relies on information systems to help air traffic controllers keep the airspace safe and efficient. Last year, FAA determined that 51 of its 138 systems are unsustainable, citing outdated functionality, a lack of spare parts, and more.

Over half of these unsustainable systems are especially concerning, but FAA has been slow to modernize. Some system modernization projects won't be complete for another 10-13 years. FAA also doesn't have plans to modernize other systems in need—3 of which are at least 30 years old.

Buttigieg testified before Congress before the Transportation Reauthorization Bill was signed in May, 2024 and authorized funding through 2028. Congress had been debating the bill for a year at that point.

Prior to the 2024 bill, Congress had been reauthorizing the department via Continuing Resolutions. Congress loves to authorize funds to improve airports in their own districts/States. They're not as keen on funding a big project like updating and overhauling obsolete system.

Buttigieg was very vocal about holding airlines accountable to customers. The FAA levied a lot of fines against carriers for the crappy way that they treat customers. Everyone was in favor of those efforts. There were plenty of examples of Buttigieg talking about the need for more ATC employees but he wasn't as strident in his criticism of the obsolete technology.

Of course, Elon Musk is circling like a vulture. He's wanting to put in SpaceLink as a solution to the FAA's woes. To Republicans, privatization is always the best solution, especially if it diverts taxpayer money to their donors.

Trump Is Accusing Foes With Multiple Mortgages of Fraud. Records Show 3 of His Cabinet Members Have Them.

The White House has targeted opponents, including a Fed governor, for having more than one primary residence on their loan papers. ProPublica found that, in one case, a Trump cabinet secretary got two such mortgages in quick succession.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer entered into two primary-residence mortgages in quick succession, including for a second home near a country club in Arizona, where she’s known to vacation. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has primary-residence mortgages in New Jersey and Washington, D.C. Lee Zeldin, the Environmental Protection Agency administrator, has one primary-residence mortgage in Long Island and another in Washington, D.C., according to loan records.

In a flurry of interviews and rapid-fire posts on X, Bill Pulte, the Federal Housing Finance Agency director, has led the charge in accusing Trump opponents of mortgage fraud. “If somebody is claiming two primary residences, that is not appropriate, and we will refer it for criminal investigation,” Pulte said last month.

Oops. Oops. Oops.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Senate hopeful, claimed 3 homes as his primary residence

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his wife, Angela, are longtime owners of a $1.5 million house in a gated community outside Dallas. In 2015, they snapped up a second home in Austin. Then another.

The problem: Mortgages signed by the Paxtons contained inaccurate statements declaring that each of those three houses was their primary residence, enabling the now-estranged couple to improperly lock in low interest rates, according to an Associated Press review of public records. The lower rates will save the Paxtons tens of thousands of dollars in payments over the life of the loan, legal experts say.

The records also revealed that the Paxtons routinely flouted lending agreements on some of their other properties.

Pam Bondi has decided that the purpose of the Department of Justice isn't justice... or crime prevention... or defending all of the people of the United States.

Nope, the Bondi DOJ wants to control what teachers can teach and whether parents can micromanage the public education system.

"Sincerely held religious beliefs, such as content related to sexuality or gender ideology". I wonder who she might be talking about there.

Call it the "Floridization" of America.

Furthermore, parents have a fundamental right to direct the moral and religious education of their children. Schools receiving public funds must ensure compliance with applicable federal protections, including mechanisms for parents to exempt their children from instruction that conflicts with the family's sincerely held religious beliefs, such as content related to sexuality and gender ideology. As the Supreme Court recognized in Mahmoud v. Taylor, compelled exposure to such materials over parental objections may violate federal protections. Any attempt to burden these rights will face scrutiny and action from the Department of Justice.

Accordingly, I am directing the Civil Rights Division to be alert to violations of parental rights and First Amendment liberties in educational settings. I am also directing U.S. Attorneys to work with federal, state, and local partners to identify and respond to credible threats against parents and violations of their federal rights. We are restoring the rule of law and returning the federal government to the people it serves. This Department stands with America's parents.

What a mess. I wouldn't want to be a teacher right now. All you need is a few activist parents complaining to completely screw up your classroom. This whole thing could cause education to go down the drain if enough teachers are stressed and quit their jobs. Four years of this is going to really screw this country up.

It's the ultimate in ironies that conservatives have whined about their views being suppressed on college campuses since the 1980s, and now they're targeting certain types of campus speech that they don't like.

The kids have figured this out. They have grown up with social media, where sexual orientation is no longer labeled and gender has a dozens of permutations. It's the adult who are scared and unable to cope. And certain evangelical Karens want to be able to show up at school board meetings, make threats and act out without any repercussions. Bondi is threatening school boards to try to restrict this acting out.
