Sic Transit McMaster?

Whenever TrumpCo. says there is a good working relationship, we are only a tweet away from the announcement of a firing.

^ Is Trump really so stupid that he thinks we don't know he's protecting Russia?

Follow the money and we will find the answer to the question: Why?

According to some reports that were discussed in posts #675 and #676, the McMaster firing is more about Trump feeling that McMaster is boring, gives too much detail and is too analytical. He also didn't like the way he looks in civilian clothes and he didn't buy expensive enough suits to wear in meetings with Trump. According to Wolff's book, Trumps said that McMaster looked like a beer salesman.

This part of the story would normally seem questionable, however it has been cited by multiple sources and is consistent with comments that Trump has made about other cabinet members.

Trump seems to be more interested in people who look good (e.g. Rob Porter) or people who wear expensive suits (e.g. The Mooch) than he is in finding competent people for these positions. It's getting to the point where the A-list and B-list candidates don't want to have anything to do with this administration, so we'll continue moving down the alphabet to people like John Bolton who are not on anyone's list for the kind of person we would want overseeing national security for the United States.

And also today, this guy. Who didn't even get to collect his jacket before being escorted off the premises.

John McEntee doesn't seem to have actually had a grown-up job in the West Wing child care centre, but he had been with Trump a long time.

Dying to know what was so bad with respect to security issues that he got turfed.

I'm suspecting leaking.

This is really too bad. He appears to be the Ken to Hope Hicks' Barbie. Donald likes attractive, well-dressed people around him.

Trump pick for UN migration job shared tweets warning of creeping Sharia, pushed fringe view of Islam [CNN]

180315165836-kfile-ken-isaacs-exlarge-169.jpg

A CNN KFile review has turned up previously unreported tweets that reveal Ken Isaacs has an extensive history of sharing anti-Muslim sentiment. Isaacs pushed a conspiratorial view of Islam and promoted the fringe views from prominent anti-Muslim activists, the review shows.

The State Department last month nominated Isaacs to serve as director general of the United Nations' International Organization for Migration, a 169-member organization whose mission it is to promote "humane and orderly migration" through assistance to both governments and migrants. The organization is actively involved in resettling refugees, a hot button issue in Europe and the US as large populations of migrants, many of them Muslim, have fled from the war torn regions of Iraq and Syria.

Isaacs, who has spent a large part of his career in relief efforts, currently heads international relief efforts for Samaritan's Purse, the Christian non-profit founded by Franklin Graham.

Franklin Graham. *sigh*

It appears that POTUS is surrounding himself with people whose world view aligns with his own. POTUS is not to be under- or over-estimated. This is getting much worse as time goes on. POTUS actions that would have been shocking and/or scandalous 15 months ago are now unremarkable. He has lowered the bar on so many levels as he destroys our nation. The sad part is that for his part, any action is so random, unpredictable, impulsive that one can't say he's villainous, he's just unhinged and therefore dangerous.

Indeed. You cannot build a nation with people who don't even know how to build sand castles on the beach.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

By his own metrics, Bolton should never have been chosen.

John Bolton's appointment as US National Security Adviser should have been impossible, if Donald Trump's tweets were set in stone.

In 2013 — long before he was a presidential candidate — Mr Trump tweeted that "all former Bush administration officials should have zero standing on Syria. Iraq was a waste of blood and treasure."

We are all so fucked.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Apparently the longest that Trump has gone in 2018 without losing someone in his regime is 11 days.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Congress has been asleep at the switch. The National Security Advisor has moved from a "staff" position to a major player in the West Wing. In spite of that, Congress has never changed the position to require Senate approval. So the Senate can't block Bolton's appointment like they did for the UN Ambassador.

:telstra:

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Ironic...since even the Republicans wouldn't approve him as Ambassador back in 2005.

Only ironic because they had a moment of clarity of conscience.

The good news is that Bolton's involvement with his PAC and Cambridge Analytica just earned him an interview with Mr Mueller.

I'm taking bets on how long Bolton lasts and who [STRIKE]bachelor[/STRIKE] National Security Advisor #4 will be.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Hats off to Larry Cohen. He called the tariff disaster. As Cramer pointed out today, the Chinese are in it for the long haul. They had a plan, the magnitude of which is still to come. Somebody told POTUS it would play well to the base. many of whom are still standing around 18 months in, waiting on delivery of their "beautiful jobs" and he jumped on this. Might have been a good idea when we still had a steel industry and the Chinese were not the major economic force they were to become. Like most of what POTUS does....trial and error....when it fucks up, and he can't blame Hillary or Obama or Comey, it's really hard to say to China, "Just kidding."

Not only those associations....Bolton also appeared in a gun rights video in Russia as Russia sought to gain a closer relationship with the NRA.

Incoming White House national security adviser John Bolton recorded a video used by the Russian gun rights group The Right to Bear Arms in 2013 to encourage the Russian government to loosen gun laws.

Is there anyone in the West Wing who doesn't have some sketchy Russian ties?

It's hard enough to answer the first part of that question, "Is there anyone in the West Wing?". :rotflmao:
