White House homeland security adviser Tom Bossert to resign [Politico]
President Donald Trump's top homeland security adviser, Tom Bossert, is resigning, the White House said Tuesday.

Bossert led the administration’s responses to natural disasters, terrorist attacks and cyber incidents....

Bossert’s departure came one day after John Bolton began work as Trump’s national security adviser.

Apparently, he was one of the competent ones. There should be a Bingo card for "Which Fox News pundit will Trump hire next?".

National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton to leave White House [USA Today]

National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton announced Sunday he's leaving the White House to join Hillsdale College's Kirby Center as a writer and lecturer....

Anton's departure comes less than three weeks after President Trump accepted the resignation of Anton's boss, national security adviser H.R. McMaster, and a day before his successor, John Bolton, a former ambassador to the United Nations and conservative foreign policy commentator, is set to take the helm.

Trump Judicial Pick Wendy Vitter Refuses to Say if She Supports Landmark Segregation Ruling

https://www.thedailybeast.com/wendy-vitter-refuses-brown-v-board-of-education-segregation-trump-judicial-nominee

Wendy Vitter.

She's counsel for the Catholic diocese of New Orleans, which means she's being pushed for her anti-abortion views. More of the Faustian bargain the Trump administration has with the religious Right.

Since she's a conservative Catholic, she also doesn't believe in divorce. Which explains why she's still married to former Lousiana Senator David Vitter, in spite of his problems with prostitutes.

You can also bet that if there's a Supreme Court vacancy, they're going to nominate Edith Hollan Jones. She's another religious Right darling.

When they're not having sex scandals of their own, the religious Right is determined to get as many anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage zealots on the Federal Courts. It's probably going to be the worst legacy of 2017 and it will take a generation to clean up.

She refuses to say it, but from her responses, it's not much of a leap to know what the answer really is.

Deputy national security adviser Nadia Schadlow resigns [CNN]
Nadia Schadlow, the US deputy national security adviser for strategy, has resigned and will leave her position at the end of the month, multiple administration officials told CNN.

Schadlow is the third senior national security official to resign or be pushed out in the wake of national security adviser John Bolton's entrée to the White House. She submitted her resignation on Tuesday, according to a copy of her resignation letter obtained by CNN, and a senior White House official said she will remain in her role until April 27 to assist with the transition...

Her resignation is likely to evoke some concern in foreign policy circles in Washington, where Schadlow has been viewed as one of the rare, reliable steady hands guiding foreign policy in the Trump White House.

According to her biography, Dr Schadlow holds a B.A. degree in government and Soviet studies from Cornell University. She also holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Pardon me, but what is 'JHFGDC'? I'm not entirely up-to-date on my internet acronyms.

Sorry at seeing this so late. JHFGDC = Jesus H. Fucking God Damned Christ. Sort of a hybrid profane, blasphemous expletive reserved for the most inexplicable, incredulous and hard to believe moments in the Trump Administration.

She must really be SMART, by generally accepted criteria, and therefore, as a woman AND smart, be a potential troublemaker in POTUS' view (assuming she escaped the now legendary "hotel interview" that seems to be most problematic for POTUS.

Well, I got 'fucking' right.

Thanks.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Another Trump Administration appointee was placed on leave for problematic social media posts.

HHS official shared post saying 'forefathers' would have 'hung' Obama, Clinton for treason
A political appointee at the Department of Health and Human Services shared an image in 2017 that said "our forefathers would have hung" Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for treason, a CNN KFile review has found.
Ximena Barreto is a far-right political pundit who in December 2017 joined the Trump administration as deputy director of communications at the department.
Barreto was placed on leave by the department on Monday after the liberal watchdog Media Matters reported that Barreto called Islam "a cult" and pushed the false Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which alleged that Clinton was part of a child-sex ring based in part at a Washington, DC, pizza restaurant.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

I am starting to wonder if his base delights in his firing these people after blaming them for everything that he is ultimately repsonsible for IN EVERY WAY!

The thought just occurred to me...

...and it just keeps getting creepier..and creepier....

Well, POTUS promised to drain the swamp. He just didn't say it would be his own swamp.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

I can only guess.

But it's bad enough that she envisions complete destruction of the public schools model, so that parents will be burdened with massive costs to send children to for-profit schools (with completely-unregulated curriculum, which can ignore science if they choose).

Restoration-of-religious-freedom laws will very likely allow some states (think: Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc.) to require religion in their curriculum. The Supreme Court will of course uphold this.

Next will be a repeal of laws which require a minimum amount of schooling for children, and we'll go back to the 1800's when some children never got past second or third grade.

It depends on the next two court vacancies and who controls the Senate.

The Establishment Clause in the First Amendment can be interpreted different ways but by civil libertarian interpretation, government shouldn't be making laws about the practice of religion (or forcing religion upon others). I'm not sure these existing laws trying to grant people the right to impose their religious beliefs upon others are Constitutional in that interpretation.

Nah, it's always about money. The motivation isn't public schools, it's public taxes. They want to send their children to private schools and have the taxpayers pay for it.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

^ The taxpayers don't pay for a FULL education in private schools. Parents may get a voucher for $1,500 for their child to go to a private school which may cost $4,000 per year - for those parents, that private school might as well be on Mars.

If the public schools are gone, the kid is shit-out-of-luck. GOOD! Uneducated people are much easier to brainwash.

On the other hand - YES you're correct, Supreme Court rulings depend on who has the say on vacancies - but any vacancies before 2021 will have replacements named by a Republican president. If ANY of the following (Kennedy, Ginsberg, Sotomayor, Kagan, Breyer) retire before 2021, any appointment will be one who HATES public education. That is one of the litmus tests for Republican nominations (and also they must hate abortion; and hating "queers" and the environment doesn't hurt either).

If they do rule that religion can be taught in schools, suddenly the funding problem after the death of public schools will be solved. Private RELIGIOUS schools will gladly recruit and brainwash as many children as they possibly can, and the funding will gush in from everywhere (including the Vatican), and they will be so flush with money that there won't even need to be tuition.

G.O.P. Pollster Withdraws From Role Advising Both Pence and Haley [NY Times]
The Republican pollster who had planned to split time advising both Vice President Mike Pence and the United Nations ambassador, Nikki R. Haley, on national security issues withdrew from the dual role on Sunday night, a White House official said.

The move by the veteran strategist, Jon Lerner, who has no national security background, came two days after President Trump learned of the unusual time-sharing plan between Mr. Pence and Ms. Haley. Mr. Trump was displeased by the move for several reasons, according to three administration officials....

Mr. Trump was upset about the move for two main reasons: Mr. Lerner’s background with the “super PAC” that supported Senator Marco Rubio of Florida in the Republican presidential primaries, and his work advising the anti-tax group Club for Growth, which savaged Mr. Trump in ads during the campaign.

Two days... a new record!
