Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Chris Christie even knows this post will be poison.
I’ve told the president that now is not the right time for me or my family
Yeah, prison has a way of reducing time spent with family.

Mick Mulvaney?

Seriously?

Acting?

Which is to say that NO ONE will take the permanent gig.
No one who can pass a security clearance, that is.

The folks at the CFPB are already planning the party.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

"Yes, I am supporting Donald Trump, but I’m doing so despite the fact that I think he’s a terrible human being." — Mick Mulvaney, just before the 2016 election.

I don't think there is a single person he could find who doesn't think this.

I am wondering though whether Christie's publicized dalliance with taking the job and then still turning it down might not have been some payback for the humiliations that Trump has served up for him over the last few years.

Ryan Zinke is out.

ZINKE_t8letq

Embattled Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is resigning from his position in the wake of legal issues, Bloomberg reported Saturday morning. According to Bloomberg, “concern about legal costs and scrutiny of his travel, political activity and potential conflicts of interest were factors in Zinke’s decision.”

It will be interesting to see if the ethics complaints are dropped now that he's leaving or whether he'll be expected to make restitution.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Is there ANYBODY under D...ump who is even somewhat ethical?

I thought it was bad under Reagan with, I think, 200+ ethically-challenged people in his administration. These people seem to have done far worse things than Reagan's people.

Edwin Meese was one of the few under him, who could rightfully be compared to Agent Orange's typical people now.

I wonder if the Democratic Congress will still be able to drag his ass in front of committee for investigations. I suspect this is the real reason that he is bailing before January.

Based upon what we're hearing from Michael Cohen, lack of ethics is on the "minimum requirements" for all Trump employees.

I wonder if the Democratic Congress will still be able to drag his ass in front of committee for investigations. I suspect this is the real reason that he is bailing before January.

The press reports have been saying the Democrats "planned" on calling him in on testifying but it's not clear whether the will be able to do anything unless they can find evidence of criminal conduct that can be referred for prosecution.

Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke, Beset by Scandals, Will Leave Before Democratic Congress Begins Investigating [Newsweek]
Incoming chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, Representative Raul Griljalva of Arizona, said that he planned to compel Zinke to testify over over a lucrative land deal between his family and Halliburton chairman David Lesar in Whitefish, Montana, which had raised conflict of interest concerns...

“With an average of nearly one federal investigation opened into his conduct in office per month, Zinke’s highly questionable ethics have finally caught up with him,” said Nicole Ghio, senior fossil fuels program manager for the environmental group Friends of the Earth.

I'm going to leave this here.

Baby Goebbels went on a high rant today about his Fuhrer shutting down the government....but all I could focus on was that his head seems to have sprouted the most unlikely thatch of pubes.

Ryan Zinke’s Legal Troubles Are Far From Over [NY Times]
Ryan Zinke’s time in the Trump cabinet is ending, but his legal troubles are likely far from over.

When Mr. Zinke was forced to resign as interior secretary on Saturday, he joined a line of officials who have left the Trump administration under a cloud of ethics inquiries. But the investigations into Mr. Zinke’s actions are likely to continue, according to Delaney Marsco, the ethics counsel at the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan watchdog group. And if those inquiries turn out badly for him, Mr. Zinke still faces the threat of criminal penalties that could hobble his political future.

“It’s not a Get Out of Jail Free card to just quit,” Ms. Marsco said.

^ Good. I assume he can be compelled to testify before Congress.

The exodus continues as Trump's special envoy in charge of the fight against ISIS resigns in protest against the troop withdrawal from Syria.

President Trump's special envoy to the fight against ISIS reportedly submitted his resignation on Friday due to his disagreement with the president's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, CBS News reported Saturday.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Rumor is that "ZOTUS" will be departing soon. Apparently, one of his enemies in the White House ratted him out to the NY Times.

Add this to the list of investigations that the Dems will do next year. :corn:

A Top Aide’s Exit Plan Raises Eyebrows in the White House [NY Times]
After weeks of discussions about his future, Zachary D. Fuentes, the 36-year-old deputy White House chief of staff, had a plan.

Mr. Fuentes told colleagues that after his mentor, John F. Kelly, left his job as chief of staff at the end of the year, he would “hide out” at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the White House, for six months, remaining on the payroll in a nebulous role. Then, in July, when he had completed 15 years of service in the Coast Guard, Mr. Fuentes — an active-duty officer — would take advantage of an early retirement program.

Mr. Fuentes has become one of the most controversial aides inside the West Wing, earning nicknames like “Zotus” (Zach of the United States) and “prime minister” for his approach to other White House officials. Even before Mr. Kelly was asked by Mr. Trump this month to leave, Mr. Fuentes had been looking for a way out, after the president had begun to sour on him. For weeks, Mr. Trump has complained about both Mr. Kelly and Mr. Fuentes, primarily over the debacle of the president’s canceled visit to an American military cemetery near Paris in November.

US envoy Brett McGurk quits over Trump Syria pullout [BBC]

A top US official in the fight against the Islamic State group has quit over President Trump's decision to pull troops from Syria, reports say.

Brett McGurk, the US special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat IS, brought his departure forward from February...
What did McGurk say about his resignation?

In his resignation letter, seen by AP news agency, Mr McGurk said that IS militants in Syria were on the run but not yet defeated. He said that withdrawing US forces from Syria would create the conditions that gave rise to IS.

In an email to staff quoted by the New York Times, he said Mr Trump's decision to pull out troops "came as a shock and was a complete reversal of policy". It "left our coalition partners confused and our fighting partners bewildered", he said.

"I ultimately concluded I could not carry out these new instructions and maintain my integrity," he went on to say.
