Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Trump's pick to lead the World Bank once described himself as 25-year opponent to the institution [CNN]
President Donald Trump's pick to lead the World Bank described himself in 2011 remarks as a 25-year opponent to the institution and others like it, saying that they needed to be "thrown away" and started over from scratch.

David Malpass made the comments while speaking to a local Republican gathering in Albertson, New York, in May 2011. CNN's KFile reviewed a recording of his remarks which were posted on YouTube at the time.

Trump's decision to nominate Malpass last Wednesday was met with some pushback, with critics contending Malpass was a Trump loyalist not qualified to lead the bank and holding views that are hostile to the bank's mission, which is to reduce poverty in developing nations through financial assistance.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

It's at the point I have no idea what Trump really believes, or if he believes anything at all but what most fits with how he sees the world, how he sees things. That the Republican Party has allowed itself to be co-opted by Trump... where one time serious politician Lindsey Graham would berate calling building the wall on the Texas border something that Trump must do alone... THAT is scarier still. John Mc Cain would be heartbroken and furious to see what's become of the party he served for so many years...and even more so at one of his dearest friends and associates so completely giving his soul to Trumpism(of course he snips at Trump on some of the foreign policy issues, but overall he's become one of his biggest lapdogs). It's soul crushing what we have now.

I think this statement is dead on.

His intention, when he ran...which aligned with Steve Bannon's vision...was to break things; to be the great disruptor.

Almost all of his appointments have been oppositional.....to the point of trolling his perceived enemies and to deepen his support among the 39% of the country who hate guv'mint and minorities.

His world is always based on how will this benefit him.

Labor Secretary Alex Acosta is probably on his way out, undoubtedly to spend more time with his family.

Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, other federal prosecutors violated the rights of Jeffrey Epstein's sex-crime victims, judge rules [CNBC]
  • Federal prosecutors including now-Labor Secretary Alex Acosta improperly misled victims of sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein during their investigation of the once-influential financier a decade ago, a judge ruled on Thursday.
  • U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra slammed the government for failing to notify Epstein's victims that it had reached a non-prosecution agreement with Epstein while leading them to believe that charges could still be filed.
  • Epstein, who has had powerful friends such as Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, has been accused of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls.

Why is it they all have the kind of last-name-obviousness that mediocre batman villains would cherish, is what I'd like to know.

-edited to add, phonetically speaking, anyway.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

^oh, he'd fit as well, but the most recent I was thinking of was Malpass, since Kara posted the link. Mr Bad Pass can join Trumped up & Co if he likes but I'd consider it an unwise career move.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Alex Acosta hasn't resigned, yet (the week isn't over, though). After the judge's ruling, Senator Sasse (R-NB) did repeat his call for a re-evaluation of the deal, which puts more pressure on Acosta to leave the administration.

In a November, 2018 editorial, the Miami Herald pointed out that the Department of Labor has responsibility for pursuing human trafficking cases, which makes it all the more shameful that McConnell pushed through Acosta's nomination, in spite of the allegations.

Alex Acosta, you made a mockery of Florida’s sex offender laws. It’s time to resign. [Miami Herald]
But while Epstein’s wounded victims struggle with the guilt and shame of what happened to them, he’s is a free man, thanks to the deal carved out in secret by Acosta that allowed Epstein to serve a mere 13 months in prison, sealed documents so that what happened wouldn’t be public record, and shut down the FBI investigation.

Acosta — the dean of Florida International University’s law school until Trump picked him to be part of his Cabinet — has a lot of questions to answer, but has refused to comment.

He avoided scrutiny during his confirmation hearing by Republicans who pushed him through despite knowing about the controversial Epstein deal. He was second choice to Trump’s first appointee, food executive Andy Pudzer, booted for domestic-abuse allegations and for hiring an undocumented immigrant as a housekeeper.

Acosta, a Cuban-American with an accomplished career appointed by George W. Bush to the post of U.S. attorney in Miami, made for an expedient addition to Trump’s cabinet, as the president was under pressure to add a Hispanic from his support base in South Florida.

It’s perfectly in character for Trump, who also stands accused by a dozen women of sexual harassment and assault, to overlook that Acosta let a serial sexual predator of teen girls get away with a slap on the wrist and concealment of the case.

But Congress should have known better than to confirm Acosta to a job that entails pursuing human trafficking cases. The sweetheart deal — an utter disregard for the severity of the abuse these girls suffered — should have disqualified Acosta from serving in the administration.

It is amazing that Acosta hangs in.

Even the Pharma favorite appointees, could barely make it 2 years...

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb to resign next month [CNN]
US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said in a letter to staff Tuesday that he will be leaving the agency.
"It's is hard for me to write this note to share with you the news that I'll be leaving my job as the Commissioner of Food and Drugs in the next month. There's perhaps nothing that could pull me away from this role other than the challenge of being apart from my family for these past two years and missing my wife and three young children," says the letter, which the FDA tweeted.
An administration official familiar with the situation said the move has been in the works for several months. Gottlieb has been commuting weekly to Washington from his home in Connecticut and is leaving to spend more time with his family, the official said.

Lynne Patton, Trump's appointee for HUD Regional Director for NY/NJ and recent Congressional Committee Exhibit, says she has Trump's blessing to appear in a reality show about Black Republicans. Prior to Ms Patton's appointment to HUD and her impending career in reality TV, she was best known for being Eric Trump's wedding planner.

Lynne Patton, a Trump housing official, says she has presidential OK for reality TV
Patton told CNN that HUD lawyers "had no problem with me filming after work hours."

"Look, they know I tend to put my foot in my mouth. They were a little concerned that maybe with some alcohol I might be a little too freewheeling on a show like this," said Patton of the Trump family.

US Air Force Secretary planning to resign [CNN]
Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson is planning to resign and return to academia in the weeks ahead, according to a senior US official directly familiar with her thinking.

Wilson has long been skeptical of President Donald Trump's plans for a separate branch of the military devoted to space. Her name had been floated as a possible Secretary of Defense as well.

Ex-Fox News executive Bill Shine out at the White House [CNN]
White House deputy chief of staff and de facto communications director Bill Shine has stepped down to join the Trump campaign, press secretary Sarah Sanders announced in a statement Friday.

Shine, a former Fox News executive, joined the White House in July 2018, the sixth person to fill or be tapped for the top communications role. Jason Miller, Sean Spicer, Mike Dubke, Anthony Scaramucci and Hope Hicks all came before him...

"Trump was very disappointed in him. There's been no improvement in press coverage," the source close to the White House said Friday after the resignation was announced. "Donald would have taken all of those hiccups if he had been getting good press," the source added.

My gut is that the campaign needs someone to feed promotional materials to Fox News. Even though Shine was complicit in the sexual abuse culture at Fox, he still fits the bill.

Another pundit hire...

Trump will nominate former campaign adviser Stephen Moore to Federal Reserve [CNN]
There are currently two vacancies on the seven-member Fed Board.

Former pizza executive and Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is also under consideration.

Moore, a visiting fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, has been tough critic of the Fed. He's blamed the central bank for slowing the economy while touting Trump's policies, including in a recent Wall Street Journal editorial.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Moore will be a disaster.
