Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Time to play catchup...

Mnuchin losing 2 senior Treasury aides [Politico]
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is about to lose two of his most trusted aides, just as House Democrats ramp up pressure on his department to release President Donald Trump’s tax returns.

Eli Miller, chief of staff at Treasury and a former Trump campaign official, will leave the department next week, according to a staffwide email sent Friday afternoon. Close Treasury observers say Miller is expected to join the private sector...

Miller (pictured above) was a political operative who had previously worked for a Koch Industries supported advocacy group before working on the Rubio campaign. Miller's tenure at Treasury was considered to be controversial, with the consensus being that he was in over his head and lacked the skills to be a chief of staff.

In Miller's case, joining the private sector means he's going to work for Blackstone Group, a hedge fund operated by Peter Peterson, a Republican mega-donor. Many Trump Administration officials are rumored to be leaving now that they've done their two years in the Administration for fear that there won't be private sector jobs available if they wait until 2021 to leave.

Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Public Affairs Tony Sayegh has also planned for months to leave by the end of May and is interviewing candidates for his replacement as the agency’s top communications official.

Miller's (pictured above) replacement is Monica Crowley, a Fox News commentator. Ms Crowley was previously considered for an Administration position but had to withdraw after it was discovered that she had plagiarized sections of one of her books (discussed in post #258 in this thread).

One of the White House's top economic officials is stepping down [CNN]
Kevin Hassett, chairman of the White House's Council of Economic Advisers, is leaving his post...

In April, Hassett refused to endorse Trump's pleas for the Federal Reserve to slash interest rates to juice growth.

RIP Sarah Huckabee Sanders. It has taken way too long and your tenure is only a testament to your own soullessness and rank talibangelical hypocrisy.

President Trump announced Thursday that his press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, will leave the White House at the end of June. “After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas,”

So, is there anyone from the original administration left? For that matter, is there anyone from the second?

I can't imagine that Trump will tolerate anyone else better in that position. I'm sure that he thought she did an exemplary job. Of course she was a liar, but who will be next?

He seems to believe that he's the media mastermind. Don't be surprised if he doesn't replace her and instead, just tries to do that job, too. There hasn't been a daily Press briefing in something like 3 months, so what exactly do they need a Press Secretary for?

The danger she has put our country in must not be overlooked.
Rumor has it she wants to run for Governor of Arkansas when Asa Hutchison completes his term in a couple of years... following in her father's footsteps.

And, no.. I'm not kidding.

Margaritas and Twister... The stories just keep on a'comin'...

The President of the U.S. Naval War College was removed from his position this week.

Navy investigating War College president over ethics claims: report [The Hill]
The U.S. Navy is reportedly investigating the president of the U.S. Naval War College over accusations of improper workplace conduct.

The Associated Press reported Friday that Rear Adm. Jeffrey Harley is under investigation after being accused in multiple complaints to the Navy’s office of the inspector general of improper hiring practices and other misconduct including keeping a margarita machine in his office...

The Navy Times disclosed that Adm. Harley had been under investigation for a year after multiple complaints were filed about his conduct after he was appointed to the position in 2016.
A Navy admiral under investigation for ‘free hugs,’ Twister games and a margarita machine in his office [Navy Times]

According to documents obtained by the press and military blogs recounting stories from employees of Adm Harley, he was having quite the party at the Naval College:
In an April 2018 complaint to the Office of the Naval Inspector General, employees portrayed Harley as a heavy drinker whose office margarita machine would often float around campus "to suit his mood," appearing in public dining areas and among other college leaders.

"He invited members of the staff to his office for afternoon drinks, setting his employees up to either comply because he's the boss or uncomfortably decline his offer because they do not want to drink during the workday," the complaint alleged.

Harley also allegedly set emails offering "free hugs" and games of Twister (a game Harley denied even owning), casting the college in an uncomfortable light, leaving staff, "wondering how Harley was spending his time and school resources," according to the Associated Press.

Indeed, the Associated Press reports that under Harley's purview, the college spent roughly $725,000 on raises annually while enduring an annual budget shortfall of $5 million, raises that several employees claim Harley "appeared to grant unilaterally to some faculty, rather than consulting the college's other senior leaders, as is customary."

There is still a whole lot of swamp left to drain. Starting in the White House.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Departures

Well... we're now putting in "acting replacements" for the "acting Secretaries...

For the record, we've been without a Secretary of Defense for 6 months now.

Wow. Mattis is chucking it.

And making no bones that it is because he disagrees with Trump.

Secretaries:

Secretary of Defense
[STRIKE]Jim Mattis[/STRIKE] - resigned 21-Dec-2018
[STRIKE]Acting -Patrick M. Shanahan[/STRIKE] - named as acting Secretary 1-Jan-2019, nomination withdrawn 18-Jun-2019
Mark Esper - named as acting Secretary 18-Jun-2019

Shanahan's defense secretary nomination collapses, leaving another void in Trump's Cabinet
Trump announced Shanahan's withdrawal via Twitter, more than a month after announcing that the Boeing veteran had been his choice for the job. Trump also tweeted that Mark Esper, the secretary of the Army, will become acting defense secretary.

Goodbye, Patrick.

Hello, Mark. This will be the last picture of you smiling that we see for a while.

P.S. Since we don't have Press briefings anymore and the President's Disinformation Officer, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has resigned, we are apparently settling for "Tweets" in lieu of Press Releases these days.
