I'm not making any value judgment on which way was better. You can make arguments for either, neither did the old way ad at noon on a Monday, one bled out, while the other took shape. Either way, it wasn't a character that was ever the qualification; one could be a total ass-wipe and venal douche under the old system as well, just so long as one could lie in public.

I also don't think people's natures are fundamentally different from 50 or so years ago. I think that a group of politicians who were losing ground played a long game of gaming the system because they were losing. When they weren't we lived in apartheid America, and that's where they want to return to. How do we get there? Division, hate, race-baiting, misogyny, and homophobia are all being pushed as proper Christian "values," Toad's agenda is not new; they've been on the road there since Nixon.

It's not being broadcast or filmed, so he has no incentive to take the stand... even though it would be quite entertaining to see him perjure himself.

It's curious how the defense team went after Cohen's integrity to paint him as a liar. Although that's a typical strategy to use in such cases, it inherently opens the door to turn the jury to consider the number of proven lies Trump has promoted, and repeatedly.

The problem is that a lot of people in enough states don't give a shit if Toad is a complete fraud, lies, rapes, steals, baits. commits sedition, calls for mob violence on his enemies, puts his kids in charge, takes all the money, gives crooks and traitors gubmint jobs, and sucks Putin's tiny cock.
